I rebut your claim, with this caveat: if this translates next into any way for the admin to 'clear' out marked runes for any reason (even under the guise of a gold sink or some other 'beneficial' umbrella), then yes we'd be stepping into areas I don't think we want to go. However, I think it is in a home-owner's right to know if their court yard (which I would argue IS a part of their house space) is secure or not. You buy a Fortress/Castle so you can have a court yard, it is part of your house selection decision. If you didn't care for a courtyard (which I don't) then you'd get a few Towers or Small Keeps to equal the same amount of storage/lockdown space. Knowing if your CY is secure can also lead to increase in property value if you can provide hard evidence that a court yard is truly 'secure'. Also, why not let this lead to a blackmarket opportunity? You can start making PM requests for people to buy/sell/trade courtyard runes which are now known to be in existence. Te Pup, Jupiter
No rune marked anywhere in the CY, even ones that were pre-patch marked in the air, will be valid after the moat goes in. A CY moat = A completely brand spanking new patch of land. I believe Telamon allowed this tool to be used to alleviate some madness he probably gets when players complain that the only reason someone just looted their entire house is because they hacked into their CY. The tool let's the player see that in reality there was X amount of runes marked in their CY, even though they thought the CY was safe for years. For example, I thought my CY was safe for over 2 years I never saw a single person recall in there. Then one day I was looted. I didn't jump on the "I got hacked bandwagon" but it lead me to really stress out as to how many of my CY runes were out there. Granted, my stress shouldn't equate to any changes, but imagine Telamon's stress when this happens to 20 players and they are all going ape shit bananas at him via PM's. Tool created, problem solved.
And to put to rest my CY concerns. What I thought was a single rune to the CY in the secure on the front steps, turned into 2. One directly under the other. All runes to my CY have been accounted for to my satisfaction. Will pots a pic of said cy & should tell the reason for my concern ! Thank you Telamon, Russell, Liberation & Mes.
You guys first need to understand things like this from both perspectives, is it kinda trammel as fuck... hell yes, does it combat a huge chunk of useless item counts just sitting on the ground blocking peoples courtyards... absolutely. Alot of things that are added are to combat you stupid fucking hoarding pieces of retard keeping thousands of useless items in your houses.
Moats blocking all prior runes are handmade Trammel on delivery. I'm going to assume they also kick people outside of the main footprint if they were logged out in the CY and log back in to a moated CY. This reporting is like a frosty glass of Trammel juice that we can all satiate our thirst for knowledge with, that we should never have in the first place. Continued removal of risk in this game is directly contrary to the stated goals of the shard. This is sad but really no longer any surprise.
So true. The fact that it is necessary to explain people the huge carebeareness of sharing this knowledge that was never to be supposed known is just maddening. And this knowledge is neither for new and young players, good for increasing the population, era accurate or any improvement of the era mechanics. It's just a total unnecessary service for the established (everybody with a CY is established) players that now can be happy lazy or whatever with their CYs. This is decreasing risk that any vet should be able to counter with their own means. Now, you suckers have super selling points and know exactly which CYs are in risk. Be happy. PS: Where is stat loss on pets?
I have a rune to 2 Fortress CY and large Keep CY. I'm not sure who all they belong to. BWA AHHAHAHAHAHAH
The point of this whole (very short term) tool was to convince people to lock their doors. As the staff does not have 4 hours to track down how many runes exist to your CY that you do not own. That player X was not in some conspiracy to loot you. That some exploit was not used to get into your courtyard. Only after hours, restored backups and detailed conversations does it come down to the fact that 28 runes exist and you didn't lock your door. But had I not taken the time to do that, the person would immediately be on the forums crying wolf about how player ______ exploited their way into their courtyard and somehow unlocked their locked doors (they were never locked) and got past their table walls (that don't exist) to loot the items from their house. Case in point: I jailed a player, in a "please page for assistance room" to discuss that they were doing something I had never seen anyone do. Not one of the staff and a variety of players could re-create it. And rather than waiting on the staff there was a 3 page complaint thread about how the staff are totalitarian bastards for wondering how someone did something. Imagine if our response to "I got looted" was "Tough shit, lock your doors". Moats will not eject people from your courtyard, they are simply an item reduction patch to allow us to retain the lack of decay in house courtyards. For the average courtyard this will save 250, 500 or even 1000 items from the world count. If players want to purchase additional security for their houses it will come at a very steep price in the form of a bridge. This something that is still in development and can be adjusted depending on the final product. Note: Moats are already in the game, in the form of the courtyard disable function. The visual elements have just yet to be added.
Not sure anyone said the tool only works in CY's. Its a simple range check. Its something I had to develop to prove to players who claimed there are no other runes to their courtyard and demanded I prove otherwise. In 2000-2001 OSI completely disabled the functionality of courtyards. Very soon after all houses, even felucca houses were converted to access based housing. If you were not on the list you could not enter the house. Education is the price we pay for having a classic T2A housing system. Hell if we had the accurate Renaissance mechanics for housing there would be no house looting and this conversation wouldn't even be happening. The purpose of this thread was to convince people that you need to be smart with security and be aware that runes exist to even the most random spots. And if a rune does not exist there are 40,000 characters logged out all over the world. These tools will be gone in the next few days, and this thread will serve its purpose and will be linked to the home security guide to show players how many runes exist. The purpose of the tools will be served and they will be converted to staff only use for the next "I got looted" page.
Can you lock a keyring down on the steps in front of your inner CY door? If so, and you don't keep the door locked... well, I don't know what to say. Sorry you got looted but you're a dingbat.
This is mostly hyperbole at 3 years worth of pages to staff regarding players houses being looted, not anything directed at a single player. (Random staff venting) And yes key rings can be placed on all doors. Notice: The dev server will be available this week for players to use this tool. After this week we will remove those commands. So please continue to post your results in the tool so it can serve as a warning to future keep/castle/fortress owners on home security matters.
I disagree with the Trammel comments. I mean, it's only temporary and it's not on the live sever (although I think it would have been better to keep the rune coords secret and just reveal how many marked runes were in existence). Additionally, I would think that/even assume that all courtyards are compromised at this point. Even if I had live permanent access to the tool, and it told me there were no marked runes, I would still keep my door locked and still have a table wall.
Yup, Snapdragon, whom I hate for violating me in my own courtyard, taught me a valuable lesson about CY security. I have like a 3 table wall barrier in to my house and everything of value is behind locked doors.
