@Wolfbane I think he exited the auction because you changed the terms of the auction in the middle of the auction by adding/changing your b/o. Certainly you can't fault a bidder for not being interested in the new terms?
I think his advice was pretty fair and there are many that should heed it.

Day 1 if someone came along wanting it for that buyout, he'd have still missed it by 6 hours.
It was a one hour friday night payday special designed to bump and attract a third bidder into the situation, or sell this house by 7pm.

A 'holier than thou' approach claiming to have honor, has just left his opposition in an annoying situation, and I will not be accepting bids from wylwrk in the future; if he has done this to anyone else, or does so again, I'd advise others to do the same.

There are plenty of other auctions that have a permanent buyout added after it has been running a few days, many others that just get sold early to the high bidder once bidding slows.

    Summary:

Discussion in 'Trading Post' started by Wolfbane, Wednesday at 12:00 AM.
Original (see: not edited yet) post

    SB - 1.5mil

Auction ends 48 hours after final bid.
    Platinum accepted at 7k/per.
    Holiday Coin accepted at 6k/per
    Bid increments of 100k please.

    Two people bid.

    Last bid (mine) 2.0

Wolfbane,Friday at 4:59 PM - Wolfbane adds a buyout of 2.9 if response within one hour (6:00 PM)

    Knowing the possibility that
iamamiwhoami (the other bidder) may not be in a place to receive this notice I decline.
I feel it would be unfair to win an auction originally announced with no buyout.
As well, forecasting what was to come, I pull my bid.

Wolfbane,Today at 10:03 AM - Wolfbane receives and takes a private buy out, ignoring iamamiwhoami's standing bid.

    Wolfbane,

Yes, any product put up for sale is set by the rules of the owner. Anything can happen at anytime. The seller may do with their product(s) as they see fit. Again, for emphasis, yes... in this regard you are absolutely correct.

However, as a tradesman there's one thing you've a habit of overlooking in the past and have tarnished yet again. Your reputation.

When I declined your offer and retracted my bids, it wasn't to take a stab at you. I don't know what the heck is wrong with UO players in general but for heaven's sake, it's not always everyone VS you. There was absolutely no way I was going to potentially pull the rug out from under another bidder like you proposed.

So Wolfbane, I hope you heed my earlier advice and post buy outs moving forward. If you had, I'd have ended this auction in the 2nd post.

I also encourage you to trade well in the future here. Let this roll off and look forward with a positive outlook that you can improve things with just a few easy steps.

Either that or make another alt forum account.

    G'luck

I'm new. Is the way this auction was run as shady as it appears, or is it considered fine and normal to change the terms of your auction at any time? For example: say I don't like the current bid price on my auction but it's higher than the starting bid I set, and I raise the starting bid or even just let the auction run and then if I don't like the price decide to not sell after all. Is that kosher, or would I be earning myself a reputation as a scumbag doing things like that? This may seem like a troll post but my only frame of reference for how to run an auction is Ebay. So it would be good to know if I'm hurting myself by not running auctions more on my own terms.

Auctions done guys, take it to trash talk or another section, cos you aren't trading.
And citing moral reasons for withdrawl of auction would usually go hand in hand with offering to make up the difference with the remaining bidder you hiked up before exiting, that is all.

In all fairness I added the last line regarding the auction after he liked it.

Not intentionally...just how it worked out.
