Custom houses in UO:R

Hello everybody. To keep it short I've been a fan of Ultima's custom house building system for years and I think it really is a great addition to a great game. I always loved the ability to build something original, something one of a kind and really had no clue why there would be a single person that wouldn't like the system. Asking people around what they thought about it I got varying opinions - some thought it would be awesome, some thought it would be horrible. The main setbacks seemed to be player's abuse of the system creating empty plots filled with chests that would be very unappealing and, of course, the eyestrain of the flashy ones.

How would you feel if there was custom housing with rules, for example:
- The custom house' location needs to have walls that would take at least 3/4th of the plot.
- All custom houses must have a roof.
- Eye strain effects taken out of the tool.
-Gm could freely, without a refund, remove a custom house that was offending players or was inappropriate in any other way.

Beware: this topic is purely hypothetical and by no means has anything to do with the implementation or the lack of custom housing on UO:R. Doing the poll out of curiosity :>

I tend to vote against it, due to era accuracy. But there was another thread roughly 6-12 months ago, where some additional house designs were discussed that looked acceptable and similar to the ones that are right now available. But custom houses, nay.

I'm all for more housing styles (maybe we can have design contest, on test center, to figure out what those styles would be) but wouldn't want to give people the freedom to create anything.

I'd elaborate on why I think this is a bad idea... but you'd just tell me I was hating... again.

EDIT: I did understand one reasonable thing between the hate which was keeping the game as close to original as possible and that's a good perspective from some players point of view.

Ya... My mistake... there were a few "new faces" involved in the discussion.

But if you're not the person who suggested content from another server (looking back in the logs it was TiMi) ... then you're not the person I told to go play elsewhere in the first place...

So I'm still not certain of the issue.

You'll think castles, towers, and gardens and instead get phallic, giant robots and gaudy.

Still not seeing the part where I'm telling you to do anything.

I made the point of another shard having the content as a reference to the suggestion on custom houses already integrated into the shard.

Telling me to go play on another server just because i chimed in with an opinion on a topic open for discussion was a bit over the top.

Although judging on your responses here and on irc im not sure you understand what is going on with the discussion.

for the record precisely what blackeye is talking about was what i was getting at.

Im not in favor of having hundreds of dirt patches with a few locked down chests covering the world. but some pre designed houses approved by staff and keeping with the ERA we are in would be a nice addition.

Better grab your suit of flame retardant armor... and blankie.... someone MIGHT just disagree with you.
