Vesper! My earliest memory of UO was when my best friend convinced me to spend every last dime of my allowance to buy this new game called ultimate online. He was a little older thn me and had already been playing because his step dad apparently worked in the game and was able to get him into beta Anyways, from my very first day playing, he had me maxing out fancy shirts as a Tailor to help raise gold for our house. A large brick. Ohhhhhh the memories. That all took place in Vesper. I suppose it's my favorite because it's my first , but it also has a lot of beauty to its layout that I find lacking in places like brit.
Well my 'first' memory of UO was starting in Trinsic and hanging around the west bank where I made skull caps for about a week straight. Of course shortly after I made the scary trip to Britain and then spent most of my time there. Such a great time almost 20 years ago now... wow. mittens Edit: so to answer the OPs question - Trinsic
Moonglow is great, spent a long time there. Minoc, for nostalgia mostly, but not bad if you want easy access to some mining spots. Britain, it's the capital and it has a big castle, and I generally like its layout even if it is a bit big. Skara Brae is nice, never spent much time there though. Not a huge fan of Nujelm because of its difficulty to get to, plus I never really could find what I needed there. Magincia, not a fan of the jungle. I want to like Trinsic because of how unique it is, but it is too sprawled out and inconvenient.
I always liked skara since I started with free shards, but minoc used to be my favorite since I knew that town layout first. Skara mainly for the easy moongate and horse access if necessary!
I usually frequent Skara the most for practicality. I like Moonglow for mage shops... Brit for RP.... lots of random buildings and areas to play off of. I have always been more a fan of east brit than west brit, though. Yew is my go to for loot drops, though. HUGE bank, lots of good, stocked vendors, and typically pretty quiet.
Moonglow and Britain for nostalgia. Moonglow was the city where I started on my first character ever on OSI. Spent the first days collecting crap off the ground until I had enough gold to buy a sword and some pieces of armor and promptly headed to the graveyard to fight skeletons. It didn't take long for a murderer to show up: he cast an energy field on the entrance, energy bolted my noob a** and looted everything. Losing the stuff sucked but I was in awe that someone could actually do that. Always thought Cove was nice, though I wish it had a stable. Serpent's Hold for crafting and great climate. Trinsic for music
By the way, the correct way to write is Occlo, not Ocllo. I know, in this shard they write it wrongly.
Well maybe we're just fans of Incan goddesses: http://www.goddessaday.com/mayan/mama-ocllo Obviously all the cotton fields are a reference to how she taught the Mayans how to spin and weave cloth. As for the poll I still haven't decided yet. I've had property near Skara, Vesper, Moonglow and Britain so far and every time I think the most recent one is my favorite...
Magincia, first character was there. I really didn't leave for a while, I role played a shipwrecked beggar. Made decent swag, and eventually made friends with the islanders who owned 3/6 of the houses on the beach, whom I ended up doing all my adventures with. Eventually payed like 9 million gold for my own small beach house, and I beat the game.
Sitting back and just wishing we had the population like the good ol' days.. I'm 23 and this shit makes me feel ooollldddd.
Vesper has always had a soft spot in my heart. When I started my first character on OSI release day, it was the city I started at. It just had a neat look on the map. I placed my first house just across from the inn with the help of 3 other people whom I had met in chat groups prior to the game even releasing. We each did our part to raise the money to buy the deed for that first small. We were so excited in our celebration that we had placed a house on our first day that we didn't realize a player thief stole our key and our home right from under us. Tough lessons, but great times. I have always tried to have at least one home near vesper. I have had towers and keeps between vesper and minoc in windmere woods. My first tower on OSI was in that area and on every free shard, I end up making it a point to get ownership in the same strip. Vesper has a nice mix of areas to run too. There are graveyards, a dungeon, a moon gate, all the amenities of the big city, but the coziness of a small town.
Yes, I am mistaken. I just found a reliable font (UO.com) saying it is Ocllo: http://uo.com/wiki/ultima-online-wiki/world/cities-and-towns/cities-and-towns-ocllo/ I always typed it wrongly and never knew it... Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
Back in OSI days...pre-T2A, my first GM skill was mining...which was done in Minoc of course. When I started actually fighting, the guild I joined operated out of Trinsic, and the house I had was close to Trins, so I moved there instead. Maaany years later, in my previous shard, I came upon a small guild that was based out of a small house just off the guard line north of Vesper bank. The guild kind of grew, and so did our properties. Our guild houses became an extension of Vesper, so Vesper is VERY special to me. Particularly North Vesper, much more so than the "strip". When I started on this server, everyone on my guild kind of started using Trinsic, so that's where I call home. I still think that if Vesper had a stable, it would be the perfect city.
