As I'm sure anyone who's gone out looking for housing space/migrating bulls has noticed, there are a LOT of abandoned guildstones littering the overworld. And quite a few of them are blocking off housing spots in some pretty nice areas. I haven't even gotten off the mainland yet and I've found somewhere around 7-10. Is there anything that can be done to get these out of the way?
Contacting staff is the only way to remove Guild Stones. If you haven't had a chance to check out the Guild Stone Memorial Wall in the Counselor's Guild building do so! I think it's in Trinsic? or is it Britain? Not sure. Short of Telamon hiring new staff, which I don't see happening for good reasons I believe. Just going to have to wait for the GM. Otherwise I assure you any spot worth more than deed +10k has had the guild stone removed. The IDOC group is on top of that shit.
Thanks for the tip about paging staff. And did not know about the memorial wall, I'll have to look for that I dunno if the IDOC people are so on their game right now. There's literally one right outside Trinsic moongate, that's not worth anything at all? At any rate I really don't care so much about inflated house prices, more that on a shard where people can have 15 houses, we shouldn't be wasting space that new folks could settle down in.
When the guild system update happens, I'm fairly certain guild stones will be an accessory/option for nostalgia. The new system doesn't require an actual guild stone but Telamon's customizing it to accommodate those who prefer the nostalgic ritual of bringing new members to the guild stone for recruiting. Perhaps along with that, guild stones can be set to disappear like house add-ons do, when houses decay. @Chris, is that do-able? Historically, I've just sent the coordinates in a Help page and gone about my day.
The guildstone graveyard is in the counselours guild hall building in Nuje'lm i think. Fun to look through to see all of the guilds that came and went, kind of eerie as well haha
removing the need for the ritual of bringing new members to the guild stone is a terrible idea that I feel should be abandoned immediately.
Where is anyone seeing that said? lol. If we were to go to the new guild system as it stood in RunUO default, stones would go away. Part of 'perfecting' the guild system for Renaissance is going to keep the guild stones for nostalgia, allow players to be in factions or O/C without forcing the whole guild into it, etc.
My point is that guildstones are not nostalgia. They are how guilds worked in UO. Now, I'm all for adding features to the guildstones and its menues, but doing away with the relevance of the physical location of the guildstone is a terrible, terrible idea.
The original plan for the new guild system involved doing away with them. People did say they wanted to keep them and were told they could be kept as deco items. Afaik the proposed/designed system is entirely accessed through the guild button on your paperdoll.
You can, now, but there's concern that might go away. I don't think that's the case as I'm pretty sure Telamon's intention is to retain the original access methods, but also enable the paper doll button as is common on other shards (AoS guild system)
I'd love to see sandstone or marble guildstones to match the different house types, they would look purdy...
I really like the guildstones and think it's an important part of the nostalgia for Ultima Online. It would be nice if the deco tool could have an option (similar to the added details function), which would run a check to see if a clicked guildstone was in a house and if it wasn't it would automatically move it to the guildstone graveyard. A significant item delay would be a safeguard against spamming too. That way, players could clean up our Britannia without having to spend staff time on it.
I always thought it great to have some type of tenure-based guild stone perks. Like a light aura or sparkle effect if it's a 1-2-3 year active guild, etc
