Tasked with clearing the Shrine of Compassion of some orcish scum that had encamped near by, I set out to dirty my blade with their foul blood. But what would follow would surprise me. Arriving at the Shrine I began clearing the area of a few of the local desert creatures infesting the nearby area. Rabid scorpions and a few earth elementals were made quick work of while searching for these orcs. It did not take long to spot the fort that the orcs had erected. There were few orcs guarding the fort of this size so I began to investigate. It was your typical hastily made encampment with a few buildings, when I found what appeared to be a map of the surrounding area. Could the orcs be out on a raid and that is why few of them were within the camp? I decided to double back and look for more clues. Searching around a large orcish idol they had built I found some footprints, feeling a cool breeze I took a closer look. A cave entrance was hidden behind the idol! I prepared myself for the worse and stepped deeper into the mountain, and was ambushed as I entered. Luckily these were weak sentries and I made quick work of them. Moving deeper inside the complex I met little resistance until I came upon a make shift armory! All of a sudden there were orcs everywhere, and I was forced to retreat down another route to save myself. Quickly they gave chase and I found myself surrounded. I hacked and slashed at the first few orcs to give myself enough room to work my lute and send out a melody that confused the orcs and forced them to attack each other. Only then did I have the upper hand and was able to sneak away before they regained their thoughts. I was free to investigate a bit more till the orcs had located me near the next level of the complex. Another idol had been built as well as a strange shrine of some sort. They also had blast furnaces roaring as if preparing for an invasion. Deeper into the maze of tunnels I went and discovered a rather large mining operation of sorts. These were strange times, I have never seen orcs work on this scale before and knew that I had to figure out what was going on. Moving into one of the larger caverns I could only imagine a large army staging here... ...then I saw one. A large device drilling into the wall being guided by a few of the orcish bombers. I put my fingers to my lute and put out a melody confusing the orcs again so that I could get a closer look, only to locate another such device working on another wall. Quickly I made my retreat down another passage and located a third device being worked on. Only if I had brought some cocktails so I could have destroyed these great creations! Having seen enough I knew the word had to spread of what was going on here and made haste for my local tavern. Grabbing a few ales I began letting people know what was going on. Stopping by the Great Councils tower my story was growing, and people came from afar to hear the tale. After telling the story a few times a larger picture started to appear. Based on the location of the mountain entrance and the direction the drills were working it appeared that the orcs were working an underground tunnel system towards the city of Minoc. I put together a message and sent it with great haste to the city watch in Minoc urging them to double their efforts till what was going on was made clearer. Should Cero decline his apt reward, which I suspect he most likely do, we should appropriate the monies to folks in need. I should say a caravan would be the best mode of transportation to deliver to Minoc and Cove.
Though I shall take the book on orcish phonemes, as Jupiter has said the rest of the funds should be delivered to the citizens of Minoc and Cove for the threat of an attack is that their doorstep. We should make arrangements for a delivery of these funds in the near future.
