I am training hiding/stealth on a LP dungeon crawler type character...
and just now notice that you have to activate the stealth skill.
you can't just hide and start walking (like I got used to on production shards).
does it stay like this all the way to GM?
or is there a skill level where you can just hide and start moving?
because at the rate of hide, wait for skill timer, stealth, walk a few steps, wait for skill timer, stealth again...
we are talking a slow molasses like crawl anywhere.

No passive stealth in this era. That changed later on OSI

    wweeaakk!!!

that really makes me rethink including stealth on this template.

was going to do: hide, stealth, lockpick, mage, music, provoke, item id
just stealth around dungeons loosening those old rusted chests and do some basic pvm

It costs you only that first 10sec wait. That is a fine template

Back in my day we didn't have no fancy passive stealth. We had to stealth through two feet of snow and count our own steps to boot!

In seriousness I actually have somehow made it this far without hearing anyone refer to passive stealth. Even though it only would save 10 seconds I like the idea. In some situations that 10 seconds feels a lot longer than it is. This may be the first thing in years I've heard that production UO implemented that sounds good to me.

so once I use stealth actively the first time...
I can just keep walking and ignore the step counter or re-activating stealth (as long as my skill is high enough to successfully roll again)?
    PHEW!! :)

fuck me on a ladder, I remember those days! counting outloud and right clicking each individual step... ONE, TWO, THREE, FO---- SHIT!... I moved two that time! what the hell!!! I only clicked once!! you damn computer!! this is sabotage I tell ya!"
to stealth in that fashion now'a'days would test my sanity.

    this is a refresher.
    phew, again.

No. At GM the skill must be applied again on or before the 10th step.

    heartbraking :(
well... good thing I am not trying to use him for pvp
maybe it'll be okay after all.
I will only hide and stealth when I get near the chests?

Typically, that is how it's done. While chest spawners are a static thing, there are many locations where the chest itself spawns on a random tile within range of the spawner.

Yeah, sorry that wasn't clear. You have to stealth every time you're out of steps.

Wow, I didn't know passive stealth wasn't by default here or on early OSI. Good to know.

    Definitely keep stealth.

That skill combined with hiding has made me more gold in this era than any other (Including taming!)

    Thou shalt provide supporting evidence!
You can be vague if it's something you don't want ricocheting off the lips of the masses.
But so far what i've heard from the loot is it's tolerable.

got just under 90 stealth on my LP crawler toon and ouch.
tis a slow motion crawl indeed.

vague memories of my old stealth nox fencer are coming back where I would run through long stretches of dungeon until I got near where I thought people may be before hiding and entering stealth mode.
now I understand why I did this.
but in my time picking maybe 5 or 6 chests I did manage to pull a vanq two handed axe and after selling jewels... exited with about 4k and my head still on my shoulders.
definitely going to have to recall into position near these things and close with stealth.
    a nice little learning venture!

does rare hue clothing ever spawn in dungeon chests?
my first one I got what looked like a neon-ish surcoat and I protected it as a rare.
then I realised I was just not used to seeing the default hue because tailor shops do not sell them.
