I don't think there is much argument about the bot thing. Even the idocers wish they didn't have to use the bots, but it is allowed so there really isn't much choice but to play the game.

The randomization of the timer on the other hand would gut the system and turn it into a free for all. If that is what your goal is, cool. I personally recall my time idocing as some of the best times I have ever had playing UO, and that was largely because of how fun it is to be a part of a really well oiled group working towards a common end game goal.

It would be like changing Champion Spawns so any solo player could easily complete them. Cool if that is your goal, but it would ruin groups champing together, because why would you invite other people? Same reason nobody every farms together, its more profitable to be solo.

For the record I do not IDOC anymore as I don't have the time to invest. Randomization would HELP players like me get access to the occasional idoc, but why should the mechanics be changed to punish these players who have organized and grouped up.

Even the groups that have tried to compete with the IDOC crew probably recall the times very fondly. It is a fun time competing at this level.

TLDR: 1. automation via bots is bad for everyone
    2. randomization goes too far and guts a really fun endgame

There will never be a random IDOC timer EVER. Telemon approves of the IDOC crew because they keep the housing market "stable" and without them and 1 person being able to own 15 houses "chaos" (in Telemons mind) would spread. Tele loves his economy.

    lol

Row row row your boat, down the river of tears. Merrily merrily merrily merrily, UO is but a game.

For all the citations of alt forum use being thrown down in this thread, I'd love to see the evidence to back that up. Not saying it doesn't exist but it's not so apparent to those of us without foil hats and bones to pick.

Oh, side note: had you spent 10 hours farming any decent spawn, you could afford a nice house to live in.

Hey I'm very sorry to see you say your leaving. What happened definitely sucked.
There's many opinions out there... But here are a few facts to consider. Followed by my opinion on how to remedy them in the future.

Fact 1. Camping an IDOC alone has a VERY low success rate.

Opinion " Ask for help or just announce the IDOC publicly on IRC to increase your chance of not dying "

Fact2. The majority of Idoc Crews use razor scripts in which recall off of runes then use item identification on the IDOC house sign then takes a screen shot.

Opinion "Learn the names of said idoc scout characters and start watching the same house so you to can have a timer, OR just kill them to hamper their efforts (probably will just piss them off and get you killed though)

Fact3. There are some of the crews out there who are willing to help you achieve your success on said IDOC house.

Opinion " I think if you were to say message some other crew with a rough opening on when the house will fall in the future you could potentially get out with some of the loot or perhaps get the house placement"

Fact4. When a House has ALREADY reached IDOC status.. It is impossible for anyone who doesn't know already to obtain a actual timer on its drop.

    O
pinion " It should be understood that there are players here who definitely have interest in every single last IDOC, that being said adjust your understanding to suit your choices in the future, if you choose to sit there for 10 hours or whatever you should be aware the second you click that sign and see "In Danger Of Collapsing" that it could be 100% absolutely a potential waste of time, this would be a good time to utilize my advice for you on Fact1. Announce it publicly and get a boat load of players there or try again next time when your able to get your self a timer "

That being said, I'd be more than happy to try to help you out one time if I am around and able, I go by Thelax on IRC and I truly hope you take my post constructively, it doesn't convey sympathy really nor does it insult.
I think we've all been where your at right now and its a huge pain in the ass when you are looking at it with your point of view... but there is a much wiser approach, Good Luck!

Just wanted to add that one of the few IDOCs I've tagged along to with the currently dominating group, was secured by the opposition. Granted, they had a bunch of dragons and shit but if you see that listing for a tower that sold south of the Despise valley, it was not owned by anyone in the dominating group.

Point being, if you want it bad enough, make it happen. Standing around with your *deathrobe* in your hand isn't going to get you far, ever.

randomize timers. idoc is not a playstyle I don't care what you say. needless to say it shouldn't be the most profitable one.
tone down the 2 weeks that ends up being 2 months known as Christmas so that it's not 1000x more profitable than the rest of the year put together.
make people earn monies playing uo, and make the people playing uo the ones with monies. that's all.

this is about all the care I can muster tho.

I agree with you Basoosh, Blackeye's post was very good but I would like to clarify one thing. I was a member of this group for a short time +/- 2 years ago and during that time, nothing was automated (to my knowledge). We all checked signs manually, recalled from house to house to house at various times throughout the day. It was a ton of work, and that was my main reason for quitting. It became a full-time concern and I felt like I was missing out on the other fun aspects of the game. It also felt, to a certain degree, like grave robbing; benefiting from the misfortune of others, and that didn't sit well with me. Is the system automated now? I have no idea. If it is, they must have implemented it fairly recently. Running a system like that must be very complicated. I would also like to mention that some of the members of IDERP, past and present, are extremely generous people who consistently give their time and gold to make this shard a better place.

I tried this post last month.

The IDOC crew has their pulling power with how veteran they are and it will never be changed.

    Sad really.

All it needs is a random timer after 17 hours and all this goes away and makes people park their asses in front of the monitor like we ALL used to do during the era that this server closely emulates.

IDOCers bring up that it would be a waste of time for them. Poor you. You only get to place 85% of the houses that drop not 100%.

    :(

This seems to always come up in IDOC threads so I just want to say... The people who complain about the system don't seem to ever show up. I've put in VERY little effort at these things and have had some fun, but other than a group or two there is relatively little activity, in my experience. It could be competitive NOW if people chose to put the time in and get organized. I feel like people have thrown in the towel completely and play the forums instead. I'm not really in opposition to your points, I just wanted to mention this.

edit: Get the timer (easy), SHOW UP, and see what you can do. I don't see enough people doing any of these things.
