So yeah, I am looking for tips and advice from you guys on whats the best way to remotely connect to your home PC to monitor training macros, play sparingly over lunch breaks, etc. What are your experiences using logmein, nomachine, anydesk, etc... - Any security concerns with some of these platforms? I ask about security b/c as I will be using it on a work computer, I definitely do not want to open up my work's network for attacks or viruses. - Any experience with one of them being better/faster displaying movement in UO? Less rubber banding, graphical glitches? I can say for me; however, teamviewer is not an option. As I use it from work to connect to my home PC, they quickly flagged me as a commercial user, which I simply am not. Seems like they merely looked at my company's domain and assumed it was commercial use and they refuse to answer emails from me stating otherwise. So what say you guys? How do you feed your UOR addiction while away from your main computer?
I use TeamViewer. No concerns. Anything similar should be fine. I look for encrypted password and encrypted traffic. Then I use a strong unique password
Is there a way to access my computer from my Android? It would be nice to be able to check on macros, etc, while I'm at work.
Stop the presses - I can check my macroing from my iPhone? My girlfriend will be ecstatic that I now have even more options to look intensely at a screen.
Are there any options that don't require admin rights to install the program? Don't have them on my work PC
I opened the iPhone app once and forgot to silence and the sound of a shit ton of sheep (I think I was working parry) blared from my speaker right in the middle of a kids school program.
@CaptainMorgan thats amazing. But also could be explained quite easily, imagine if it was the sound of two female characters sparring. *dink - dink - swoosh - sex moan - dink - dink double sex moan - swoosh - ethereal healing noise - sex moan - horse noise* Watching someone explain that to a class of kids would be a laugh riot. Hahaha
So I'm doing more research into UVNC and it looks promising. Going to do installs and try it out. Anyway, I did see there is a no-install executable you can download. So I recommend looking into that. As I haven't used it yet, I can't vouch 100% for it.
Well UVNC won't work for me. It connects via a static IP address, which I don't have. I could use a service like noIP, but cant as that service needs me to do port forwarding on my router. Can't do that because my ISP has a combo modem/router that does not allow it for non-commercial customers. And upgrading to have port forwarding doubles my bill. So my search continues.
At home my laptop is connected to my TV via HDMI and is set as a 2nd screen (as opposed to duping my laptop screen). I had a movie playing on my TV once with a friend over and I was playing UO on my laptop screen. As I ran through town a cat meowed really loud and it went thru my TV speakers and scared the shit out of my friend. I let him look for my non-existent pet cat for a while before I couldn't keep a straight face anymore.
TeamViewer has a portable option. Download here. With TeamViewer you also don't need a static IP. You associate all your managed PCs to your account and they update automatically. Hire me TeamViewer!
Ok. I've done some testing and the solution I'm going with is anydesk. They have a no fuss download that makes it quite easy to connect to other computers like teamviewer but without the pain in the butt factor. The anydesk program you download is a no-install executable. So you can use it on locked down systems. If you so choose, you can make it an installable program. They also have iOS and Android apps you to use your phone to connect. https://anydesk.com/remote-desktop I'll comment further about performance once I get home and test it with the UO client running.
Most of the medium priced wireless routers out there have VPN capabilities. Just set that up. VPN in and use VNC to remote control your PC. I hate TeamViewer
It would be another option. However, a company that doesn't grant install permissions most likely won't allow the use of VPN.
I have yet to get the server to work correctly, but If you have a Windows 10 machine with Hyper V installed, you can install a Linux Server on Ubuntu called Guacomole I believe...google it. It runs in a browser so change the port it is hosted on as well. Security guy at work used it to connect to his home machine all the time, hosted the Linux server at his house. I'll see if I can get it configured this weekend and setup a few VMs to play with.
