So having GM'd Archery and being in a position to "farm" mid-range rares I've noticed that I need to keep finding (or buying) new Bows as the old ones will do less damage over time. I am assuming that bows damage deteriorates as the item breaks over time, but I cannot use the fletching tool to repair my bow. Whilst it's possible to repair other weapons such as swords and maces there's nothing much I can do about my nice Bow of Power. Can I suggest that a GM Bowyer will be able to repair bows and crossbows? I love this skill, especially as it's clearly underused and would like to see it enhanced in the hope of attracting other players to become Archers - I mean, how cool is it to deliver that final arrow and watch the monster die?
Yes there is no way to repair archery weapons except for fortification powder, but it only repairs/adds 10 durability per charge, unlike a smith repair deed that is a full repair. It was promised some time ago(patch 43??) that archery/staff repair deeds are coming, most likely with the carp/fletch/tink BOD system...but who knows the time frame for that? It is just another thing against archery here that makes it sub-par to every other weapon type.
Well, is there something that's required from us as a community to convince the dear UOR admins to change? I am happy to get a poll or petition going if that's needed
Same with mace weapons made of wood... gnarled/quarter staves, clubs... as a gm carpenter, i'm not able to repair those... or am i just blind?
I agree with you on this, archery is the most forgotten weapon skill here. All other aspects of the melee Have changed in some way or form. I've been trying to get archery up to par for a while now, getting people opinions on the topic does absolutely nothing we can posts a million reason why archery needs help here. But it just seems the developers and GMS want Nothing to do with this issue. I'm always hopeful that something is going to be added but they have been saying this for years now and still nothing. Making different woods to make better craftable bows imo would be best. Anything to change archery speed or the mechanics just will not be done here.
The reason was pre-t2a bows were "the" weapon. Keeping them consumable was important to "balance". But that didn't work, they were still overpowered until the nerf that happened in t2a. It was pretty reasonable to keep them non-repairable them also, given that they were still the hardest hitting weapon in the game. On UOR the nerfing to archery is laughable, so there is basically no reason you shouldn't let someone repair it.
I don't see how there could ever be runic bows. They are already at the top tier of single instance damage. The Agepite Runic Heavy Xbows that exist now (though rare) have a good change to kill someone with a simple "shoot + drop flamestrike" combo. Just don't use them like a ranged weapon (since archery is a melee weapon on UOR)
I don't understand, why wouldn't repairing any weapon be a good thing, especially for a beginner?! surely this would make it more cost effective to be an archer where you can make your own bows, bolts / arrows and then keep them repaired where as you are being a new player on UO:R myself I started by investing in a semi nice spear and buying repair deeds to try and keep it alive for as long as possible.. where would the problem be?
For some reason bows have always been like that. Can you use a GM weapon-smithing deed on a quarter staff, gnarled staff, or blackstaff? Is it all wooden weapons that don't get the love? Or just Bows?
