I don't know where this thread fits, admins can feel free to move/delete it as they see fit. I just feel like getting this off my chest.

This morning I went to Ice to work on some Arctic Ogre Lords, and was promptly chased out by a red who had been chasing another blue, Gambit. I came back about an hour later to see if the coast was clear, and saw Gambit again. I asked him if the red was still around, then this happened (screenshot taken after heading back to town):

I went back to Ice a little later, ran into Gambit again and warned him that I was keeping logs. He then sicked his red on me, and this happened:

So, there we go. Am I being a crybaby here, or is his language really excessive, especially for a case of mistaken identity?

Also, I realize I can put him on ignore, which I'm sure I'll have to make use of next time I run into him. Just wanted to bring this up here.

I don't think you're being a crybaby. I don't know where this falls in the shard rules, I assume this happens to people here every day, but there should be at least some determinable level of civility that players are held to. Not in terms of engaging in combat but rather in common conversational decency. But I'm just a carebear, what do I know?

I agree. I don't like getting murdered, for instance, but I realize it's part of the game, so I try not to complain about it, hehe. This, to me, was on a whole other level which is why I felt the need to share it.

I do believe there is a line in which language crosses the barrier into REALLY inappropriate. The c-word is pretty much second only to the n-word as far as that goes.

Just open the uo-options and put him on ignore. A guy like that probably has nothing of interest to say to you, and trust me, there will be more just like him.

This conduct clearly crosses the the line on Renaissance. Player killing is part of the world we live in, harassment is something we will always work to address especially when it reaches these this level.

While you can always ignore anyone in-game that uses inflammatory speech, and we recommend you do so, once the speech reaches a level of extreme racism, or hate speech the staff will warn the player about their conduct. If a pattern of conduct emerges they will be asked to play elsewhere.

    Renaissance Code of Conduct

Update: I spoke to the player in question and we had a nice discussion about the rules here, and what is allowed on other free shards. Sometimes in these cases players just need to know that Renaissance has active staff who address hate speech. This was just the case of someone frustrated about being killed and assuming it was Sherelle that did it.

Oh darn, I guess we're gonna have to enact some player justice.

    Gambit....you just made your bed..

Thanks, Chris. I didn't expect anything out of this, but I'm glad you set the record straight with him.

Not only was it infuriating being called that word, it was even more so due to the fact that I was just a passerby in all this.

I like to think of the UO:R population as a cut above the other shards out there, and also like a second family. It certainly is disappointing when situations like this occur.

Being a game on the internet there will always be players who lack the proper verbal filter. While we cannot control or moderate everything said ingame we can do our best to let the players know there is a baseline level of conduct expected in order to help make Renaissance a success. In my experience as an administrator for the last 2 years, 99% of the time a short conversation is all these situations require. People get heated, words are said, drama ensues.

Its the players that make this their default behavior that we will address as this benefits no one. If you can't say it in the middle of a crowded mall without being escorted out by security, you probably shouldn't say it ingame.

That said the player in question here had simply come from other servers where this type of conduct is common place. Once they realize the same rules apply to everyone else as well as themselves there rarely is any more issues.

I was just talking last night about how a certain level of civility should be used regardless of the situation. I am glad that people aren't allowed to get TOO carried away here as that doesn't help anyone.

i think he's part of the 2.0 guild. He was also assisting that Knowledge guy verse me as well, but it wasn't apparent to me if they were friends or not. I killed their whole guild in shame one day just me vs 3-4 of them. I ran up and he said "hope yu ar good" and then i laid them all out.

anyways, i got that head if you want it. Valentine's is coming up.

What a repugnantly appropriate gift! And for Mes to offer a head out of his own collection!

That kind of language is just totally unnecessary, good that you posted Sherelle (<3) and great that staff interfere at such levels.

By the way, that picture is totally, absolutely, perfectly, flawless!

Sometimes ignore isn't always the best option. You can't see people's spells being cast when you put them on ignore. If you put that guy on ignore and he decided he wanted to kill you, not being able to see his first spell(s) coming could be the difference between life and death!

    To Gambit:

I can assure you that If it's not a 2.0 or 3.0 tag I'm not friends with that person. You are also kill on site on any character I am on. Thanks for constantly looting my bards kills bro... I expect you to run off screen and hide now.

I checked the database and it looks like I killed Dark Templar, AtticusBane, and Gambit 3on1 in shame the other day. If you say Gambit isn't one of yours then I believe you. It was 3 blues in one spot and I just assumed they were all friends.
