Players should only do things because they enjoy them. In a time vs. reward sense, Idocing is like buying lottery tickets. It should be done for fun and with specific/realistic expectations. The people arguing for changes don't seem to have brought the experience required to back up their claims, once again.

    Just quotes followed by comments.

Still appear to have not read what I've said. Why are you posting at all if you're just talking to yourself?

I've stated what my purpose in the thread is multiple times. Please understand, I couldn't give a shit if I am "good" at IDOC's, I'm looking to get a level playing field utilizing the intended mechanics of UO for everyone.

I'm not looking to get rich from IDOCs, I'm looking to review the automation used in them to gain financially. Why? Because it seems inconsistent with mechanics of other parts of the shard. For the record, I'm doing quite well financially, e.g. I plan to be running some scrolls at some point soon, possibly some ironman attempts; that should be great fun and potentially big rewards!

My preferred playstyles all use the mechanics of UO. They're quite varied, but fall within what the creators intended. This is relevant due to Telamon having often said that he looks at mechanics partly based on what the logic of the original creators intended.

So, one more time, for the slow class:

Why are some forms of automation allowed where others are not?

    1. Information IS a resource, a very important one.
    2. Information gathering is advantageous to the recipient of the information.
    3. Automated resource gathering is subject to an AFK check, reasoning for this is that financial gain can occur as a result of this.
    4. Automating the process of learning when a greatly worn has turned to an idoc is gaining information that can result in financial gain.
    5. Ghosting in dungeons is not allowed, this is information gathering that can result in financial gain, but, is banned.
    6. Automating IDOC Sign checking is allowed, this is information gathering that can result in financial gain, but, is allowed.

The randomization timer helps by removing the point of automation: gaining a close to perfect drop timer.
It has benefits in that it will help small teams or solos as it adds the element of surprise and chance to the idoc.

You keep assuming that I'm trying to get a benefit out of this due to my failings; I've barely attempted idocs.
I see an issue and am attempting to address it. So lets keep to what I see as an issue, instead of your perception of a lack of skill or understanding.

To the people usefully chiming in with images and videos, I suppose you could call them memes? kinda...
Would you prefer all players that come here just accept the shard the way it is even when they see an issue?

This thread has become a good example of veterans simply wanting it their way and both dismissing and belittling a player questioning things.

We currently have a level playing field. If you don't think this is the case, you need to form a better argument. So far, you have not presented a reasonable alternative.
Secondly, you cannot address an issue when you don't have the experience to address it. You can't advocate for other people if you don't know how to help yourself first, unless you enjoy talking out of your ass. Which you appear to be.

Negative Ghost Rider. This "issue" has been addressed in several perfectly clear posts by the owner of the shard with logical explanations of what HE believes is in the best interest of his investment.

If there are unresolved issues not addressed by staff, by all means, bring them up.

I'm gonna buzz the tower regardless.

Why are some forms of automation allowed where others are not? I specifically address the ones I'm talking about a few posts up.

I feel that is an unresolved issue. If I have missed an explanation of this, please someone point it out.

You might find it more worthwhile to start a new thread in the bug or developments section, specifically asking this question, or to pm Telamon directly. He is busy so it may take a while but I'm sure he will provide you with a detailed explanation.

If you don't know, why not say that pages ago?
I will likely follow it up.

So IDOC timers hey, whats up with those?

I would have to hunt down ancient UO archives to confirm this, but I believe there used to be randomization. Whereas in UO:R we have I believe a reference to it being 16-18 hours but it's actually 17 hours?

I can ask Telamon this myself, but if someone knows the reasoning for a strict timer like this, what is it?

I still feel some type of randomization would be better, as do a fair few others based on what I've seen in this thread and others. My reasoning for that has been explained, and actually agreed with by @Gideon Jura That reasoning is that it gives smaller teams or solo's a better chance at "beating the odds" (we are playing the lottery with idocs aren't we?) via RNG, and the element of surprise. (oh shit it's down!)

Is there a reason I'm not seeing that makes this a bad thing? Or only that the current system of automated checking would need to be tweaked?

You are ignoring information being given to you so it might be better to go straight to the server owner or start fresh with a new topic. I'm sure he would be happy to explain his reasoning to you. You aren't considering any opinions in this thread but your own.

"Is there a reason I'm not seeing that makes this a bad thing? "

Yes, several. All over this thread.

Top right on the forums page is an open field with the word "Search" in it and a magnifying glass. If you type your doubts there you would be surprised, but most times you can find answers.
