I do, but as lightshade said, it's more do to with how I view UO should be.

My opinion is intact, though there have been some solid opinions and well pieced together thoughts that help me appreciate others'.

    Welcome back One.

You shouldn’t make any assumptions about why people hold their opinions. It certainly does not come down to your assumptions.

Based on the tagging of one said CPU member, who admits to IDOC’ing (he had a very minimal accuracy rate, by the way.) I can’t assume you’d have a better understand of the scene.

IDOC’ing scene is low in participation? In relation to what? Champing scene? Nightmare taming scene? PVP scene? Farming scene? Picking cotton scene? I can almost guarantee more people IDOC then all the above scenes. So, again you make an assumption that simply isn’t true.

A swing of 38 to 32 is really not that impressive, if anything it shines light on the NO vote. As you said the IDOC scene is low – 32 NO votes is quite impressive.

I’ll honor you with the same, all do respect. IDOC hunting is not a feature designed by the game, it is a human created response / activity based on the mechanics of the game (houses don’t drop for people to pick them up, they drop to keep the map clean and available for active players.) Most all other activities are a design of the game. So, as you said IDOCing is not fun or profitable and you want to create more interaction.. Well which one is it.. do you want to create an easier source of income for yourself (self-interest) or do you want to create more interaction on the shard?

That’s a trick question, regardless of your answer - your efforts would be better put to use pushing for a change to trammel hunting (don't comment back on this I'm being facetious) (AMIBS, LVL 7’s and x-mas scrolls) which might I add have a far greater community of people playing yet has less interaction and is more profitable then these self-interested IDOCers who are telling you it takes team work and *gasp* interactions with other players to make it all work. I’m not sure how it all started but everyone is on the HYPE train that IDOCing is the only way to make it in this game. That is not true.

I wrote this out earlier but hadn't posted yet and @midgetbob's response was pretty dang good. The value available in the IDOC scene is not an unlimited number. It’s limited to the value of stuff that MAY be in a house. So, we can modify the IDOC’s elements however you want to meet your objective (which I think is still unclear) The loot pie is still the pie, it doesn’t get larger like holiday scrolls because more people are trying to eat the pie. So what ends up happening? Well, the same thing that happens now. The biggest most badsass wolf eats the pie. Nothing changes.

As per your latest post with wild idea's *smacks forehead*... I gotta hand it to Chris, he thinks through things from multiple perspectives.

Forum posting is the new bank sitting. Sorry for the book.

I wouldn't be opposed to this. It also encourages playing the game to acquire things rather than someone else's hard work being scooped up.
Something like, spawning rares deleted, resources and coins of all forms deleted, craftables deleted, rares get placed in to a drop table for events, achievement type statues for CTF, Writing, etc. I have no idea what to do with those; I find it kind of odd in the first place that people other than the trophy earner would want them.

    *shrug*

Whilst I think this could be a viable solution (I think some other shard has a 50% of IDOC loot drops on mobs) I believe the problem with implementing this, especially on this shard, is that IDOC's are considered classic UO gameplay. Preserving/Recreating classic UO gameplay is something that is important to both staff and players.

So... that being the case, I feel revisiting some other areas of classic game play should be on the cards, like the state of stealing! But that's for another thread.

    Ooooh.
Maybe this? I do like this!

It really would do a lot for the IDOC scene. Turn out to an IDOC would definitely increase - and - there's not a specific need to bot to get that timer, although having the timer would still give an advantage in terms of time spent in attendance before the drop.

You'd see an influx of solo and smaller groups 'giving this one a go', we'd even see PvP between these smaller groups (especially as a lot would be using the announcement, and therefore there earlier and longer). This could be great fun.

Difficult to test effects unless on the live server, but another plus side is that there would be a hell of a lot less work for staff doing this than any other suggestions, like partial loot adding to drop tables. It would actually be simple to implement.

1.- Great ideas. Nothing will change.

2.- The reason I voted NO is not because I think botting is fun, fair, or the best for the shard. I did because it is something, that although available for EVERYONE to do AND/OR counter, people cry foul because of their perception of unfairness. So they rather affect a group of people's playstyle because they believe it is not what is best for the shard. You don't believe in botting? Fine! Don't do it. This is the typical case of "what others eat makes you ill". It is the same reason I disdain vocal vegans.

3.- It is easier to ask for an authority to kill liberties than to put up the effort to start a revolution and elicit change from within. Educate people on how to counter bots. Get a group of people together and actually mess so much with the bots that it is not efficient for them to do it any longer.

4.- Great ideas. Nothing will change.

...and in a couple of months, a new thread about why there is no AFK gump for ID on house signs will surface.

I don't find this to be consistent with your prior messages on the topic. If "a timer is just a piece of information", surely it's not any major punishment to take it away?

Wait a second... I don't view UO in political terms, my point was that OTHER PEOPLE do :) And that was something I shouldn't have said and I should have instead continued to try to argue on merits - sorry Chris and Pirul. Let me amend:

And for me personally, I still have this opinion. Hard work helps at lots of things, but it's up to the History Perfected shard to decide what types of hard work it wants to offer. Taking away the benefits of someone's hard work happens *all the time* on this shard and others. It should definitely be a consideration but I feel like it's being used as a conversation-ender in this case.

@Dalavar brov, no need to appologize to me.

Although I do believe that IRL, as my father loves saying: "only in the dictionary will you find success before work", it has little to do with my stance. I guess it is more to do with people crying "injustice" and "unfairness" for something that, maybe because I know how to do it and where to hurt it, is easily countered and/or replicated. And that at the end, only saves the organized team maybe 30 minutes of camping.

@Lightshade, when we did rares in UOSA, how often did we do rounds? About every 30-45mins? And that was only 3-4 of us. I think at the height of it, it was 5 of us. Even when it was just 3 of us, we still did rounds every 30 mins. Take away IDOC botting and the organized team(s) will still have a 30 min window.

If the argument is: it's only information so it's not a big penalty so take it away. My question is: why? Because it is unfair? All it takes is 1 account to replicate it. The same number that the botters are sacrificing to get the timer. The recipe is out there to do it. I fail to see how it is unfair.

The kicker for me is that some of the advocates for this change do so in order to have "more activity" in game. "More player 2 player interaction". And yet, the bottom line is: bots kill it for the little guy. So which is it? Why not create activity? Go find people and PLAY TOGETHER!! DOMINATE IDOCS AS A TEAM!!

This 1000x. This "change" will not kill the biggest most badass wolf. It will still swoop in at the end of the window, kill everyone and take everything.

Been out of this thread for the last 10 pages or so.. but I still see it going strong.

If there is interest...I'll write up a detailed guide on how to use this to run your own recall bot later this weekend
