Hello to all. I just recently started on this server and it has been great so far. I have a question. I am wondering if I should take resist or eval int as my 7th skill. How significant is the change in the bonus to spell damage at 50 or 70 eval int compared to 100? Does it make any sense to split the points between resist and eval int (30/70 50/50 70/30)? This character is not a pure mage but more of a hybrid. Any info or insight wold be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is my first character so the intention is to learn the mechanics and get a bit of a start in the world. Currently it has:

    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Fencing
    Healing
    Magery
    Meditation

    Resist and or Eval Int

If I take both Resist and Eval I may drop Healing.

I would drop healing and take up Eval and Resist, you've then got a sweet tank Mage who can para blow.

Most people make a Provo Mage or Peace Dexxer as their first money making character on this server, takes about a week of semi afk training and then in another week of average play time you'll have a giant chunk of change behind you.

    Provo Mage

    Musicianship
    Provocation
    Magery
    Med
    Eval
    Resist
    (Free skill) Hiding/peacemaking/ work well

    Peace Dexxer

    Musicianship
    Peace
    Fencing
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Healing
50/50 magery med for recalling around

You wait for good advice and then two loads turn up at the same time, classic.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you on the tank being a strictly PVP template though dude, back in the day when we only had 5 characters a tank was my main and he did everything. Yes there is significantly smarter ways of doing it but I use my tank here as a kind of an opportunistic everything character, had a lot of success at Valentines with him casting blade spirits and running around finishing critters off with a weapon, if you can get your hands on a katana of troll slaughter or something you can nicely farm trolls or any respective slayer and their foe.

You've also got the benefit of being able to defend yourself better than the average PVM'er if a red DOES roll in.

It wouldn't be my first choice here for a character template here but if you've already sunk some time into this dude don't be afraid to crack on with him - just be aware that there will be players newer than you farming more successfully on a Provo or peace character!

    Have fun dude!

Thanks for the information. I do not mind unconventional. Not at all. I will do some experimenting and see what happens. This is all a learning experience at this point.

This character is already out and running around after leaving the young program (somewhat unintentionally) with about half the time remaining. I consider it to be a trial by fire of sorts and a lesson learned under fire is a lesson you do not forget.

    tamer, just make a t... j/k

Everyone automatically assumes you're playing the same way they are. Sorry... I've done that too.

How are you playing it? High dexterity in heavy armor or mage-like wearing leather and casting more oft than not?

    This determines the appropriate answer.

The style is situational but I want to be prepared for whatever or whoever I may encounter.

I usually roll out with two armor sets. One metal and one non metal. Augmented by STR and DEX pots and defensive spells. With the metal being the highest AR possible with the least DEX penalty as some of this characters DEX was sacrificed for INT.

For weapons I also try to be equipped to be flexible weather one handed to use pots or two handed for para blow or pre-poisoned etc.

Once I know the situation and who the possible enemies (especially those nasty blues who may seem friendly but then try to kill you) are I will try to devise the best strategy and combination of armor/weapons and or spells to deal with it.

Wait, is this for PvP, PvM, everything?

    My fault, I wasn't specific

What's your present/goal for STR, DEX, and INT?

fyi you cannot meditate in studded leather nor any metal type armor

    random notes

    - magery damage is sorta higher in PvM situations
    - for PvP, no resist is foolish - so is no eval if you're low dex - mage/med combo without eval is more for utility... some even drop meditation
    - you almost have a stock template of the standard 5xANAT mage + melee (resist/mage/med/eval/anatomy) + tactics + weapon (90/45/90 basic stats)

This is a great idea if you were running with a group.
Pkers here run with 3-6 people. There are rarely solo reds running around. So either way, preparing for a one on one fight is pointless (in my opinion).
If you encounter a group of reds solo, your options are flight or die.
Now... you might be some elite bad ass character that can win a duel 3 vs 1 or 5 vs 1, but chances are you wouldn't be asking for advice if that was the case.

I would focus more on building a character you enjoy playing and accept death when it comes to call.
You'll enjoy the game more that way.

    Current Stats:

    STR 100
    DEX 75
    INT 50

I have thought about it and these are the skills I will be testing.

    Experiment #1

    Fencing 100
Tactics 80 (augmented to 100 by accurate weapon)
    Anatomy 100
    Healing 70
    Magery 100
    Meditation 90
    Eval Int 70
    Resist 90

I may still drop healing at some point but I wanted to test this skill set and see how viable it is.

As a first character I realize that these skills and stats may not be ideal but the best way to learn what works and what doesn't is through experience and I still have a lot to learn.

So your end game is to be able to solo the harpy room in Covetous?
I guess we all play a little different :)

Not really concerned with end game at this point.

Only been on this server about one week or so. I am still learning how all the mechanics work together.

You mention the Harpies. Yes, I have killed a lot them. Even took down Gamayun when it spawned there although that was a bit rough.

As far as PKers I have yet to see a group. The only people who have attacked me so far were solo.

Right now my priority is just to get setup in this world with some resources gold/equipment etc. maybe a small tower somewhere and take it from there.

The way I Iook at it time is relative and to quote Raoul Duke "All energy flows according to the whims of the great Magnet"

Sorry for what happened in the lich fields near Yew the other day.

I was guarding your stuff but I had two liches on one side.

Then the pker Cookie Monster rides in on his Ostard (named Cookie coincidentally) and attacks from the other side so I had to get out of there.

Hopefully you did not lose anything not replaceable.

We should go hunting again sometime. I have a new silver weapon and I owe those liches some payback.
