Okay, got some stats and got some opinions but no one seems to be asking what I feel should be a common question:

Yes, they scheme a bit, but in order to generate this "wealth", they need to play the damn game. Most of the time, they are doing the things that generate the most shiny pixels as efficiently as possible. But they still need to put in the time and effort. If they want to act like a cartel in game and succeed at it (without cheating or GM assistance), IMO they deserve our respect and not our accusations.

Has there been some shady stuff (remember BeerGate?) happening from time to time? Yup. But as far as I can tell, all this platinum is being generated via legit effort. I recall Erlkoniggle and TT powergaming the champ system themselves pretty hard and shutting down any competition for lulz. One of your members, Vella, you may recall, made your average powergamer look like a chump. He pretty much started the whole three tamer bot and champ system craze. Aren't they are doing exactly what you guys did for a long while, only better and for longer?

And, in the case of actual malarky (remember BeerGate?), does that even matter? So, a player can now walk around in one or two more extra blinged out outfits or ride a couple of extra ethies into Trammel-Glory. How does that affect your game? Why should another group's success bother anyone else? And what is keeping you from challenging them and doing it better/just as well?

    Asking for a friend.

@TrojanCow I don't think he's asking for or expecting anyone to get banned out of this, I think he just dislikes the idea that the economy [that is to say, the price of platinum, not its acquisition itself] may getting dishonestly manipulated by alts (screwing over a lot of middle class players in the process).

Also I got the idea Vella is back and one of them (Plat Train?) now.

What if @Erlkonig just started this thread because he needs a plat reward, but he dumped all of his plat last year when plat was going for 10k per, and he is therefore trying to drive the price down even further?

Wait — silly me, no one would attempt such a manipulation, given how easy it is to accumulate plat. All you have to do is convince 5-10 other people to log in at the exact same time for 7-10 hours in order to accumulate and then run a Harrower set. No problemo!

Personally I would love to see the price per plat drop because even peasants of the realm should be able to ride an ethy and own a blessed runebook. But if not an alternative solution to keep the rich and poor folk both happy could be to slash the cost of platinum in half for both of those items in the reward shop. Which could also lead to a population growth as well for newcomers discouraged by the effort it takes to obtain such a large quantity of platinum just to travel conveniently. Just a thought.

To be honest I would love to own an Ethy. But yeah the cost is too prohibitive for me. I'd rather have the gold invested in either liquid assets or in my vendor shop. Same for a blessed runebook.

But if a player wants one of these, it's really not that hard to farm up. Me personally I just don't have such the time or drive to do so.

It is cool though to see people riding regular mounts. Last shard I was on it was rare to see a regular horse. Ethy's, Beetles, Nightmares, etc were all you saw.

I farmed enough gold for a blessed runebook deed in one weekend (albeit almost the whole weekend playing) on a simple non-bard tamer.

that was back when 8k per was cheap.

Just give us different rewards? idk.

You are in SoF right? A large, active guild that has a "focus on PVM, shard holiday events, champ spawns and player run events". You all haven't run a single harrower since you founded 2 months ago. Not one. Get your shit together, you should all be making 357k an hour!

I personally don't think making plat / plat rewards easier to get is the right move.. I think the current system gives new players goals and objectives.

If you want end game items, you gotta put in the work to get them- frankly you need an organized team to do it.

I think it creates a healthier community. Part of the fun of UO (for me) is building up my account.

Now back to the juicy stuff.. Why isn't anyone talking about the rumor mills of TT running illegal scrips back in the day and stockpiling MASSIVE amounts of gold? I think much of that was handed down to @Erlkonig. Do I have proof, nope.. But stories are out there. Doesn't that destroy the landscape for new players? Having so much money you can bully it around on the forums and inflate the value of shiny items?

Still buying plat at 4.2k PM me!

I'm fairly new here and I so badly want a couple of ethy's and a couple of rune books, but I agree with the current structure. It provides cool rewards to those who put the time in, and I like that when I see an ethy it still resembles significant time and effort by the person riding it. I played Baja in the day and etherials were Vet rewards for something like 3 or 5 years (someone here will remember more clearly I am sure) - I'm very close to one here, and I have been playing for about 5 months. Though very useful, these items are non essential and I can appreciate the road to get there for us all.

I'm also of the mindset that its pretty rad that a group of people can create such a "cartel" and be big shots in this server. If you want to put the time in and those are your aspirations, it's awesome to be able to play that way. My goals are much more humble, but that also makes my game ceiling appropriately lower than some out there.

Id get a kick out of being able to buy plat at 4.5, and I'd sure as hell be all over that, but I can appreciate how things are right now. Gotta have goals, and anticipation is half the fun. Great that this server allows us to play how we want and gives us cool perks as incentive to play the game we want.

Price is what someone's willing to pay for it. That having been said, I've never thought that plat was realistically worth more than 6k and anyone that's discussed why with me knows that. It hasn't stopped me from "valuing" it higher, though.

People don't understand that these 8-12 people are probably closer to 5% of server population, which when controlling 95% of the wealth, is a lot bigger of a deal than it might seem.

Does this mean AMIBS are artificially inflated as well? If so I'm buying AMIBS blue/green/purple at like 40k for blue 65 for green and 70 for purple..

    Anyone selling?
