One of the biggest mistakes I consistently see in UO is players assuming that prices dropping is a bad thing.

It is not....especially in the case of Ingots on this server.

I see a lot of people screaming to high heaven about the falling ingot prices and trying to blame it on recall miners, but that is not what is causing the prices to fall. Its just the solution to an increase in demand. Its just competition. Let's face it, they wouldn't do it otherwise.;)

You should all be THRILLED that more players are mining because that means there is more demand from players which means more players are playing and the shard is thriving... Instead, you're focused solely on the prices of ingots and/or your own profit stability that you selfishly desire to stay the same.

When the demand goes away, the prices will lower even more...until all the excess stockpiles are sold off...then the prices will go up as people are no longer mining in response to the demand. Like I said, people don't mine for no good reason. ;)

Just let the market do its thing!

The increase in recall mining is a direct result of the increase in demand....which has caused an increase in competition as shrewd entrepreneurs are entering a thriving market.

516 online as I write this with a peak of 624. That's great!

Get used to the lower ingot prices, folks...don't screw with an entire class.

Make no mistake, the "fix" for recall mining will be to fundamentally change how the Miner Class in UO has been since 1997.

I, for one, would be 100% against that.

If you don't like Recall Mining, fine, get the Staff to enable "Negotiate Features With Server". Force everyone to use razor. Remove Organize/Restock/Drag/Drop Functionality...or whatever else it takes to make those macros no longer useful. This is the only way to truly FIX the automation problem. Otherwise, its just going to be Whack-A-Mole with the next "Automaton" popping up in response to supply/demand issues...

DO NOT make miners become warriors. They're peaceful, friendly folk that like to go about their business and don't hurt no one.

NOTE: I do not even have a single character capable of Recall Mining.

Falling prices? Iron Ingots are at the highest since I got here almost a year ago... 9gp per... I remember finding them for 6 & 7

Heh posted same time as Dalavar...

There are other ways to affect Ingot production & demand... and if you have listened carefully to the upcoming fixes to Smithing in regards to ingot loss on failure, you will know one thing being done. Read the Patch Notes carefully.

Right now there is MORE demand than production. Even with upcoming fixes, demand may slow some, or it may encourage more smithing, which will lead to more demand.

BTW, I do have 3 toons fully recall enabled. You can make more Gold/hour farming with a Bard or Tamer.

My bank box doesn't seem to notice a fall in ingot pricing.

For the record. I do not see any problem with Mining. I was just responding to all the "Squeaky Wheels" in IRC. ;)

I also do not recall mine and I don't see a problem with it. TBH it's hard to get your hands on ingots here... I advertised for weeks in IRC and couldn't find anyone to sell me them.
