See I think my main point has gone a bit a stray here. I'm all for PKs, I think they are necessities in UO, especially for the economy. My issue was how 4-5 will gate in and PK someone farming, but when an event occurs where they suddenly are out numbered, they fail to show up. People argued playing with their friends, and my point was there are several other ways to PVP with your friends then to gate in squad deep on a person farming.
I'm guessing the solo PK you may be referring to yesterday was Pumpkinsmasher. He was taking on a few blues at once with dragons all over the place...looked like he was enjoying it.
YES! Thank you! I knew I'd remember his name if I heard it. I believe he even got killed at some point. Point is, people fought with him as soon as he showed up so I don't understand the excuses.
Or maybe... just maybe they decided to play other characters and participate on the blue side of the event. Or shit man, just maybe it was because the event took place on a freaking Wednesday? You're our UOR Alex Jones now. Enjoy.
The whole thread is built on the assumption that those "group of PKs that gate in dungeons to kill solo blues" would get obliterated by the PVM population that decided to take a shot at free pixels, but what would really happen is that these blues would get massacred by any organized group of reds, and that is exactly why the staff has intervened before to prevent this.
1. If so, that would be understandable. 2A. Don't act like you haven't logged on AND run with your PK on a wednesday before 2B. I'm sorry they didn't take your bed time into account, I guess? 3. Your jokes are hysterical, keep them coming.
Not quite. What would actually happen is that each PvMer would see the reds attacking other blues as their opportunity to get more uncontested monster kills until eventually there was only a single PvMer left. Then, they too would get killed.
I can explain why pumpkin was there. He's in my guild. I was taming a fluffy outside of town and a guy from anarchy waited until I got flame striked on my tamer a then dumped on me and pulled the dragon off so his buddy could tame it. Last count they told me they have five. So I'm sure they got 9-12 of those fluffy before it was all said and done. I came back on my second tamer and the same group were interrupting the tame as I was attempting to tame a second one. And eventually just killed the fluffy all together and stun dumped on me. 2nd toon dead. I came in on my spear mage and pumpkin came to help fight the guys dragon snatching from me. He had his blue characters there but died from whatever. Then the last guy he has stocked was his pk, so enter pumpinsmasher. Then we went on to fight those anarchy dudes in front of ice for about another hour or so. They were beating us pretty bad too. I lost a few spears haha. I'm not sure who was being jailed for pking but that's interesting if it was happening. I was furious I lost the dragons I was trying to tame, and all my characters were dead and I was losing while pvping. But I also loved the struggle and want to fight those guys more. I don't want the rules to change to make it easier to live or stay safe during a group event. Losing motivates me to improve. Ultimately this game is not risk vs reward. Its preparation and practice. And a splash of RNG. Generally speaking the players who are more prepared will most likely win regardless of what area of the game you enjoy. A few examples would be bods: the guy who has great organizational skills will most likely complete more and be able to sell more for profits. Idocers: the players who generally spend time scouting more getting good windows on drop times and communication will most likely get the house and loot. Pvp: the players who bring the right gear like wands, pouches , pots will be more prepared for survival and more lethal with teamwork and practice. I lose all the time at a lot of that stuff but it makes me want to succeed even more. If you are a new player or just bad at razor, even simple things like targeting and hotkey layout will greatly improve your performance and overall game play success. Ask someone, if they don't wanna help ask me. I'll help anyone with that stuff.
It was great, I farmed around 150k gold (not including drops/plat) last night without seeing a single red. That's unheard of for a Friday night. Soon I'll be in the fray though, all this farming is to bankroll my forthcoming Faction addiction. ;-)
anybody who complains the gank squads arent there havent actually been around when they have been!! i think it was last easter in moonglow from memory - all the PVMers were having fun grouping up knocking down baddies, chasing those damn pesky thieves, and then suddenly anarchy or CPU (i dont remember which, maybe both) came and literally wiped out EVERYONE. wasnt even a contest just a smashing of all blues in the area even if they were fighting together against them. was fun for a lot of people trying to fight back but im sure there would have been those that thought otherwise!
The single one element that keeps me coming to UO is the fact that I can get pkd and looted anywhere. As for OP, your rant rests on the premise that these Pks are online all the time which is obviously false. There's no way I will participate in any town invasion that starts from 8pm EST as that would be 2am for me.
