Played UO back in the day so was pretty excited when I came across this server. Just wondering whats a good build is to get started with? I refuse to play a Tamer because I find them boring. Would a Peace Dexxer be a good first character? I enjoyed playing a Bard before and enjoy the sound of femcing weapons hitting things. I just dont see how theres enough skill points for it to work though.

    Fencing
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Healing
    Music
    Peace

That leaves 100 points for either Magery, Hiding, Resists, Provo, or Discord. Seems like I would suck no matter which skill I take for my 7th. Im thinking 75 hiding and 25 Magery would be nice cause I can hide if PKs show up and recall using scrolls. Or am I better off just making a Provo Mage and ending up with

    Music
    Provo
    Magery
    Meditation
    Eval Int
    Resists
    Hiding

My goal is get rich and buy a castle.

A peace dexxer is a nice build that can help you get your feet wet and start making a little coin. I don’t have one, I personally despise peace, so can’t help you there.

This on the other hand, is a beautiful build and very similar to the one I always start with. I favor wrestling over hiding simply because I have a fight reflex as opposed to a flight reflex. Not always the smartest thing, just how I am.

You’re going to need not one but three tamers.

Provo/Mage is always a good first choice. I tend to go with Hiding and hide while my provoed targets battle it out. If they are of unequal strength, toss a blade in to help the weaker one. I would however forego resist. Even with it, your not going to survive a pk group dump which is what will get you most of the time. I would go with wrestling to give you a chance to cast through melee hits, if that still how it works.

I play tamers now, so bard tactics are not fresh in my mind.

OK how would you even play 3 tamers at once. I mean Im pretty good at boxxing and have played 6x in Everquest and 8x in DAoC using ISBoxer so is that how people do it? Also whats even in this game you need 6 Dragons to kill? I used to easily walk through Destard and Terrathan Keep as a Bard and make tons on gold provoking everything.

    Welcome to UOR,

A peace dexxer is a good start to make some gold to train other characters. As others have mentioned provo is often more useful than peace unless you are at a one mob spawn or want to pull them one at a time.

Hiding can be useful but if you use invis instead and replaced it with something like disco you could go after bigger game and farm mobs faster.

    Good luck.

    Welcome,

I personally enjoy playing a dexxer especially to start with as its cheap, to train and play.

peace is for the single target and provo for the groups.
I still use my peace dexxer for farming the ore golems / elementals.

bard skills are free to train, get provo / peace on toon and get that coin... if you dont want that template anymore... just retrain. most templates will still use magery etc

I might end up going peace dexxer. Seems more laid back. Plus Id rather take on mobs one at a time like Balrons or whatever. If you have to run 15 Tamers sitting on Champ Spawns 24/7 just to get rich then I will just be poor lol.

    Mace
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Healing
    Music
    Peacemaking

Guess the last 100 needs to be split b/t Magery and something else. With 100/100/25 GMing Magery seems pointless. What's the minimum to never fail recall scrolls and then the rest in Hiding is proly what i will do. Id like to also have provo but not enough points to get it high enough to be useful and still have Magery to recall.

If you take down a balron on a peacer, please take a video of it!

Lots of sound advice here for starting templates.

Best advice in my opinion is to find and play whatever is fun for you.

Not only is a peace dexxer a great starter build but it's also just a really fun character to play at any point in your UO career.

A provo archer isn't going to rake in the millions, but damn I have fun playing it.

To complement the skills you listed for your peace fencer, you could take 50 magery for 100% success on 4th circle spells (mainly to recall around) and 50 med for improved passive mana regen. Or you could take 30 magery, rely on Recall scrolls, and afford yourself 70 skill points for Hiding.

One of the best overall templates that will work really well for both pvm and pvp is a 5x mage with music and provo.

Don't get burned out before you begin by chasing the castle life hype. All that glitters isn't gold.

Lastly, but not in the least, welcome to UOR!

Hey, whatever get’s the job done. My biggest problem is that the balron has the gold in the top most container, not a bag within.
