It is a real shame the absolute cluster F the trade forums have become. Mostly because people can’t seem to leave their salt at the door.

Many of you might not know me long enough or well enough, but I have been around free shards for a while. And I would like to think I have a solid trading reputation, mostly because I play the game to make friends, not to get salty.

In the shard I played before there were no housing trade prompts, so there was a real issue with house sale scams. I used to offer my services as broker to help people protect their trades and was somewhat respected doing it.

What I offer here is mostly geared to providing a FREE advertising and closing service so you don’t need to deal with people you believe are shaddy.

PM me here or in IRC and we’ll work out the particulars.

My services are always FREE. People sometimes offer tips, and they’re always welcome but never requested or expected.

Hopefully this will help keep the trash talk out of the trade forum and will make this place better.

    I commend you on this.

However, I strongly believe that we need moderators with an iron (and attentive) fist. IRC and the forums have suffered because we lost people like Darkwing. As much as some people did not like him, he kept the shit from overflowing. That Jill Stihl madness on IRC is ridiculous and wouldn't be an issue if we still had mods.

I understand that even moderators are volunteers. I know there are many who would volunteer as a moderator on the forums. I wish Telamon would trust a more active player in moderating the forums. The trade area has become a cluster fuck and it's because of just a few children who obviously need time outs.

When did everyone become so overly sensitive on the forums? Now the trendy thing is to complain about the trade forums.

    • Are sales not happening because of this alleged anarchy taking place in the trade forums? No.
    • Are people unable to bid because the forums are being hammered by hundreds salty people and the page won't even load? No.
    • Are auctioneers unable to even determine where the bids are in their thread when it is being continuously bumped by off-topic banter? No.
    • Besides a core group of regulars who just like to bitch like pansies about everything, is anyone really being inconvenienced because someone is having a non-bidding conversation in their thread dealing with imaginary magical items for imaginary golden currency? No.

Now if there's someone who just wants to spew venom in every thread because they're just here to act like a jackass, then fuckem', get rid of him. But all this whining about the trade forums not being a magical rainbow kingdom is getting tired, stop being such crybabies.

Yeah, cool idea here but I agree with @Merlin that this is not needed.

Relative to a few months ago, the quality of content on the Trading Post has declined significantly, driven largely by incessant accusations of shill bidding and general defamation. It's exhausting and presents poorly to potential newbies looking for a new sandbox. If that's your thing, great, but it's certainly not the same UO:R that sucked me in a few years ago.

I would use this service to keep @Pill from bidding on "my" auctions, deterring others because of the "shill bid" fear...THEN paying me in all HC's...W T H?

I have only been on UO:R for one year, and I agree forums have declined a lot, mostly within the last 4 months or so I would say. It would be nice if people would act like adults here, as I am sure there are very few actual children playing on this shard. If people could act like adults, there would be no need for anything like this.

If you don’t have anything good to offer on a post, and are not placing an actual bid, is it really that hard to just ignore it?

It really would help a lot if there was even a few forums moderators. Give them a stern warning, followed by longer and longer forums bans if they want to keep it up.

We shouldn’t need this if people would just stop acting like children.

@Merlin *scratches head* Have you not been on the forums the last few months? Your rhetorical questions that you answered no too - I would answer yes too. (Apart from the second one)

I personally have had to get several of my auctions closed, 1 deleted and pretty much every single of my other auctions trolled by a now (hopefully permanently) banned member.

I don't think it's a case of anyone being "overly sensitive" I don't play UO for cuddles, I'm not a snowflake but I am a 33 year old dude who doesn't want to waste what precious time I do get for UOR'ing dealing and navigating with someone who seemingly has nothing BUT time and who's only goal IS to just trash people's auctions and posts on the forums.

I think what Pirul is offering is a good idea.
    I support it fwiw.

Ultimately what I would prefer to see it adults using the forums and ideally a specific trade forum moderator who runs a strict no fuckery rule.

If someone states bids only - and a dick head posts some salty ass drama, I want to see it deleted, the person warned and a reminder to respect the OP's wishes of bids only.

I want a moderator who will talk to OP's and bidders if there is a shill bid accusation and pass it on to Chris if needs be.

It wouldn't take long to whip the auction sub forum back into shape if this was the case and before long all we would see is people buying and selling. A sign of a good server with a healthy and moving economy.

I don’t think the issue is the trolling - trolling has always been in the forum ever since I started 2 years ago, and honestly its what it’s keeping it alive in this period.

The issue maybe is that the shard economy is dying and less and less people are posting auctions, therefore the trolling noise seems louder.

The “Pareto Distribution” of economics applies in game economics as well, after long enough time, the square root of the people operating in a domain end up owning half of the overall wealth.
I’m not complaining this from a personal perspective since I can place myself in the 1% rich, but I genuinely believe the shard should figure out a game mechanic to redistribute that wealth to the bottom otherwise like in any economic system, will collapse.

Fully support this, I have been doing something similar by attempting to supply people with anything they need. Without them having to ask for themselves on forums or make contact with other groups.

Have traded with @Pirul many times and would trust them with any of my trades.

Thanks for the comments and support.

I have noticed sales pulled, and an increase in threads moved/closed.

Of course this service is not “needed”, much less mandatory. It is an offer for anyone looking to sell stuff without being accused of having their buddies shill bidding and/or having their trade derailed.

    Offer stands.

For what its worth Pirul is one of the good guys for sure!

There are lots of reasons folk would like to trade thru a broker....Is somit I would of liked to of used a few times in the past(and in the future)

    Mainly being anonymus.
Sometimes not sure of a items real value.
    Someone to bump/promote your items.
Someone who knows who is who regarding bids.
Sometimes is scary doing a trade worth a few mill.
Someone to deal with Private offers.
Sometimes being in the UK I find it hard to catch some people online.

I've only been on the server for just over a year. I've finally gotten a good set of toons and am becoming more social. My two cents on this is that @Pirul is doing nothing but trying to help. There has been Drama on the forums since I started monitoring them, same with the IRC Channel. Some ppl need to stir the pot. I commend Pirul on his offer of services to middle man transactions with out cost. We all need to realize that ppl will always want to stir the pot, it's part of human nature. We just need to remember not to feed the troll, for they will grow larger. Thank you to all of you who help make this community as great as it is.

I think this would be a good idea for us newbs that haven't been around and active for a long time to know who is who and whether who to trust. I've bought some things and have also sold some. I just hope i'm not being played and I do my best to make sure my prices are fair and act as a responsible dealer myself.

    Tip 1

Don't sell off your first round of platinum coins to a particularly douchy looking fellow that likes to stalk new players in Ocllo.

We'll just call them "player x".

They like to convince the player to sell for considerably less than they are worth.

Get in IRC. Ask questions. Confirm things. Network and socialize.

It won't take long to weed out the ass cancer from the normies.
