Blessing Runic Weapons for non-Faction Characters

    You are arguing as if golden runics fall out of trees. It's not an easy pill to swallow when you lose 40k just in weapons on one death when you can play a stun mage and lose, what, 4k?

    So my premise is absolutely valid. There is no variety to the player who just starts in pvp. They need to have a good amount of money or access to resources if they want to play anything outside of a stun mage.

    See any new names consistently in pvp lately? I haven't.

    Should be playable by all and that's my gripe.

    Right now it's really only viable if you're geared to the max.

    There was a pk at Ice today named Scully who hit my bard for around 30-40 points with a verite axe (my bard has 0 wrestling or defensive wrestling) and who ran and hid in his house after I threw one mb at him. He then came by and talked some smack on his other char Timelord or Jerome Jackson or some other nonsense, but point being, you guys are complete bitches about these runics and they shouldn't be blessed for anyone. If you're that big of a pussy about losing them, save them for ctf and swap to powers and vanqs. Enough of this trammel bullshit already, bring back being able to kill people through walls of houses and
    fix the gdamn thief class to be era accurate and stop making lame philosophies about how it's fair to completely to gimp the class to 10% of what it was in era


    Or don't and add soul stones, consensual pvp only, bags of sending, ninjas and elves, insurance and shit and perfect the UOR era by doing exactly what OSI did.

    30-40 with a verite axe? Something smells fishy. That should be a low end swing with a verite. Perhaps it was non-exceptional?

    And that's fine, I'll agree with doing away with blesses as soon as a force weapon starts to hit for 30-40. Or, making weapons hit consistently, seeing 40 dmg followed up by a series of whiffs and a 1 dmg is silly.

    Can't have it both ways. If you want 40+ hits, you need to suffer through 13's. If you want consistency, you're gonna get 27 every time.

    IMO, 40's and 13's are far better for the dexer.

    While i dont agree with blessed runics for non factioners, i certainly agree that there needs to be some fix for the inconsistency in melee damage/hits. Doing 40dmg in a swing means nothing when i whiff literally 10 plus times afterward and when you finally do hit, you score 12 damage to a now fully healed opponent.

    Totally separate issue than the damage. And evidence that even if weapon damage is changed, there will still be ceaseless whining about swinging and missing, or the fact that you will have a harder time killing someone with 26's than with 40's and 13's.

    But the fact remains that melee is broken, theres a reason you dont see dexxers in pvp

    I hear you. But more consistent damage is only going to HURT your cause.

    Half the people on UOR here came from a prior shard which used the dice rolls indicated here. Most dexers on that shard - in particular the ones that dominated tournaments and field pvp - chose fencing over swords. Why would they do this, when swords gave far more options for weaponry? Because the broadsword and katana roll 3 dice and have very consistent damage, while the war fork and kryss rolled 1 die (like we have here, for every weapon) and thus had a much wider range of damages. And that makes you better able to kill someone. Most mages on that shard wore clothing with a negligible AR. The impact of high-range damages is even more important when people are wearing armor, which 100% of people do here.

    Look at it this way. Imagine your opponent has barbed leather on, which absorbs 10 damage per hit.

    If your base damage is 35 every time, you'll get through 25 damage every time. In other words:
    35 - 10 = 25
    35 - 10 = 25
    35 - 10 = 25
    35 - 10 = 25
    So over 4 hits, you'll deal 100 damage.

    Now imagine you hit for between 5 and 65 instead. It's the same average damage as 35 every time. For example:
    65 - 10 = 55
    45 - 10 = 35
    25 - 10 = 15
    5 - 10 = 0
    So over 4 hits, you'll deal 105 damage.

    Even if you don't believe that wide damage ranges help you kill people, it is absolutely provable that they deal more damage to armored opponents.

    Problem with thst is you rely on the luck of the draw. I have fitd of under 15dmg hits for upwards of 5 landing blows. Im pretty sure if you tested 100x both ways the greater the amount of dice would result in much more consistent kills

    I'm pretty sure you wouldn't. I'm basing that on math, and an entire shard that very quickly figured this out when presented with both options.

    Unfortunately for Mes, he has no fucking clue how many ideas of mine actually have been implemented here already. I'd go ahead and list a bunch but then you'd get all salty about how I'm pounding my chest about shit. I really don't care if it's my idea, your idea or anything. Just sharing ideas about how to potentially improve the shard. Sure, when I open up a thread for discourse and people reply with a bunch of stupid far fetched shit like "item insurance" the thread may take a turn for the worse.

    Go ahead and ignore that PKs can already get faction blessed weapons and no one needs anyone's fucking approval to join SL (or any presently dominating faction) and make their own this very day. We can also ignore that Bartimus has already lost agapite weapons to disarm thieves and probably other various ways. The more these hammers get used by more people the more common the unblessed variants will become.

    I have all the runics I want or need and I have blessed them when I wanted (ie: http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/41980 we captured towns and I took the opportunity to bless an item or two). So this has nothing to do with winning at factions either. That's just a matter of who wants to stay on point for 7 hours to hold down some sigils....whoooptie doooo. If anyone really knew me, they'd know that I was opposed to even Faction blessing when I got here. The fact that it took over a year to get the top tier runics made it seem like a FAIR BALANCE to allow a brief window of opportunity to use your weapon without losing it. This isn't item insurance, it is a TEMPORARY blessing that absolutely wears off faster than you'd like after you spent 50k - 1m on a weapon. Item insurance are the half a dozen Valorite weapons running in CTFs right now. ;)


    So yeah, that's cool, keep arguing to keep them only in the hands of Factioners. You're really on a fast track to just seeing Factions removed altogether so in the end, I'll get what I asked for in Beta, which is no blessing at all.



    Orrrrr, we could do the entire community a favor and sap gold out of the economy for TEMPORARY (Read that again el horno) blessings of runic weapons only. Weapons CAN NOT BE RE-BLESSED. They are only blessed on craft and it only lasts three weeks.

    Player crafters being able to offer temp-blessed force weapons (shadow runic) for a fair market price to newer players is not a bad thing. I can't imagine any non-Faction crafter would be opposed to actually being able to play a crafter outside of just being a BoD junkie.


    Anyway, no skin off my back, I've already got everything in this game.

    i went hunting at elder gazers this morning and found 6 weapons that were +15 or better and power or better (edit: was there 20 mins tops). Finding weapons worth using is a joke, it's way too easy and 5k will score you a par-grade power weapon on most all vendors 15 steps from Yew.


    People seem to find a haven during CTF missions with all of those "i'm-too-scared-to-use-outside-of-here" weapons.

    Dexxers have all sorts of methods to jack up casters/stun mages. being two-shot with an axe really sucks. Blessing them? sure let's just bless everything and add a pay-to-win and we'll have what everyone THINKS WE NEED. :)

    This is why everyone uses dexers and no one uses stun mages, right? :/

    Any weapon that can two-shot can be Greater Healed through.

    Every person here was killed by a valorite runic-wielding lumberjacker, and not a single one of them was 2-shot:

    Maybe I'll test this on test shard. Valorite weapon versus invulnurability leather. Any 2 hits in a row that are both over 50 will be deemed a 2 shot. Results pending.
