This is another reason I think Factions are awful, no good stupid things that should be repealed and replaced. (faction blessings) Stupid crap hated it since it came out.

Half the shit we have here (bonding slots, Factions, ethereals) only existed in Trammel as well. Point is moot.
The bag is open and only letting some templates feed from it, is imbalanced. Certainly remove factions (which, fooka, is where the 'arbitrary' three week blessing timer comes from) and all pet bonding. If we want Felucca, then by all means, stop bonding your tames and trash barrel your ethereals and blessed runebooks.

Otherwise, stop pretending like it's not a blaringly obvious imbalance between the classes. Three weeks is not a long time and not even remotely, by any stretch of the thought, "plenty of time to farm enough gold/bods to find replacements".

If/When there are full randomized teams for CTF, I wholly support them being restricted to GM/Non-magic items. With teams, best of breed or gtfo until you can afford to play with the big boys. A world as variable as Ultima Online simply cannot cater everything to the have-nots. If they want to party, they will go work to get what they want, just like everyone else did.

I'd be down with that. Apply Faction restrictions to Order/Chaos to prevent outside interference and get the world back to guild wars and good old fashioned O/C without blue-healing )(*!%)(%.

To further expand on that, anyone healing/buffing an O/C player who is not O/C themselves should either flag criminal (which would be shitty in guard zones) or flag orange for the standard criminal timer and, if engaged by an orange, stay flagged until combat is over or broken up for longer than the timer.

Just because something existed in Trammel does not mean that it has to be Trammel. ;)

There are things I like about factions. Base fights were amazing on OSI, but no one really has the balls for them here. They are absolutely amazing when you have two factions willing to attack bases though, some of my favorite and most glorious fights on OSI were faction base fights.

There are things I don't like about factions, which mostly revolve around the leet trammel gear. That stuff is there to give incentive for people to faction, and I think it worked and didn't cause any problems on OSI.
On this much smaller server, I think things like titles and red horses and all that stuff that comes with is encourages people to join who aren't really interested in pvp or fair fights and it leads to things like whining and cross faction teaming by people who just don't have the chops to handle the realities of pvp.

Flagging orange would make me happy. I'm frequently quite put out when trying to heal a faction character that isn't even remotely involved in faction combat and it's a detriment to my suspension of disbelief. I think something like this might also help players that wouldn't normally be involved in consensual PvP experience it on a part time basis. Certainly not necessary and there would be unfortunate downsides for a few ignorant players but it seems a more graceful system than what we have now.

Point being, blessing anything is a terrible idea, even if you're trying to "disguise" the fact that its being blessed by asking for a temporary blessing. In reality, it won't leave the bank box unless its got its "temporary" blessing which translates to is simply a blessed item. This is basically Item Insurance. This is a terrible idea.

A proper balance is achieved by making there be a risk for using the high-end weapons. Back in the day, most people didn't roll with Vanquishing weapons because there was a PROPER risk for using them. Also, they could actually break! Gasp! Things that break!? This all kept most people from using them unless they were good, or in a large group that could help them. This translated to people using more GM and lower-end magic weapons. Which in turn lent itself to a more balanced field in which items routinely broke, were lost, and had to be replaced. This kept people farming, crafting, buying, and interacting.

Then along came this grand idea called Item Insurance, essentially what you've proposed except for specific items, and it pretty much was the final death blow to a community in regards to people actually relying upon one another.

Sorry, no to blessings of any type and I FIRMLY believe that ALL weapons/armor should break from use REGARDLESS of PoF being used. Blessing and PoF on Weapons/Armor is not good for the server. Anyone that can think beyond there own selfish ME ME ME mentality understands this.

People are already losing runics in the field greater than gold runics. Can you put the 'never leaves the bank' shit to rest just a tad? In reality, it won't leave a pussy's bank box, just like runebooks that aren't blessed and high end tames that aren't bonded yet sitting in stables.

    Welcome to Half-Tram.

I have never proposed anything remotely close to item insurance. I've proposed giving the SAME FUNCTION THAT ALREADY EXISTS to the masses. They put the time and effort into getting one or more of these choice items and a bunch of blessed runebook, ethereal riding, multi-bond tamers or other are shedding rivers of tears about three weeks respite from it dropping?

Please, by all means, have that runebook blessing wear off or remove them altogether along with pet bonding. Then maybe your stance will make any lick of sense.

Man, talk about a bunch of babies. lol

PS: No weapons or armor have to break or get worn out here, ever. We have PoF and it can be used indefinitely (ie: item insurance for your weapon, to a degree, insuring that it will ALWAYS be on the shard, if not in your hands)

Blessed runebooks and bonded tames aren't good for the server either but they are not going anywhere so how about some balanced options for non-tamer or non-bards?

While I'm sure there were some poor souls who used their vanquishing katanas until they broke and disappeared, the majority of folks realized when their weapon was getting beat up because it was either (a) hitting for crap, or (b) showing up as damaged when they Arms Lore'd it. When you repair an item, it goes back to full HP (minus 1). You could literally repair a weapon 25 times and you probably wouldn't notice any change.

I love Powder of Fortification, but its availability is far outweighed by its usage. I started selling my massive stash in August:
    http://www.uorenaissance.com/itemgraph/1006/PowderOfTemperament/single

Obviously there's still a ton out there, but the way it's currently used is not sustainable in the long run. So it will become less of a factor over time.

I understand that there are certain things out there that are sort of "Trammel" already, but never let that be a reason to make this game more Trammel. If anything, we should be taking a good long hard look at everything and thinking 'how can we make this less Trammel'? Don't add more Trammel, get rid of it.

Dexxer Damage in PvM: If you're worried about solo-ing a Balron, which I don't think a dexxer should be able to do in any consistent manner, then look at changing the way Player Characters do damage to Monsters. Introduce an "under the hood" resistance/damage category for monsters. Player Character Damage has chances for "crippling" blows and "precision" blows that do much more damage to non-player enemies. As far as the storyline behind such a change...humans are "smart" and can figure out how to take out the bigger, stronger, and faster beasts.

I would like to reiterate what I said earlier about the damage spectrum of weapons. Make the spectrum closer together. Make GM Weapons more viable.

Blessings: Get rid of them altogether.

Bonded Rezzes: More re-training after a pets death.

I honestly don't even want dexxers to solo top tier mobs but it would be great if they could at least handle them with a buddy or two that weren't dragons.

Also totally in favor of getting rid of all blessings outside of clothes. If not removing bonding, then definitely re-instate the heavy penalties for death that are equally costly to losing a quarter mil worth of gear when you die (potentially).

The problem is that it is just never going to happen here. No way in hell Telamon coded all that shit for extra bonding slots and allowed so many to have blessed runebooks, just to strip it all away. If not blessings for weapons that are pvp capable (which I understand the fear of, don't get me wrong), then at least some ability for PvM warriors to bless their bread and butter like Tamers bond their tames and bards rock ethereals and blessed runebooks.

Dexxers not dropping a weapon on death, does not negate the value of everything else you're going to loot, nor does it change the dynamic of the kill or the motivation for PKs to do it.

most people here are pussies. (right bart, genocide, lib, etc...)

and if you were using a vanq kat and repairing it, you'd most likely die or have it stolen before you repaired that sucker 25 times

Hey, Jack-off Shadows.....bartimus has had agapite weapons stolen by a disarm thief.

Your pathetic attempt to insult, really only backfires on you. But please, run around in deathrobes stealing more and raging about PKs. ;)

oh I'm sorry, running around in groups of 2 or 3 to kill bards and tamers and anyone random miner or newb you come across isn't being a pussy

hiding in houses and avoiding fair fights isn't being a pussy

and if before you jump in with "you don't pvp" my counter is be patient, it takes time to farm wands, make an alchy to get a supply of pots, buy a runic wep and get it faction blessed, find 3+ friends to stack the odds in my favor, set up an online chat program so we can have instant communication to gank people, and hug close to a house to be competitive here, so it's going to take me a while (esp cause I get distracted by other things in the game((there is a lot to do in UO, it's one of the things I love about it)

But I predict pvp will be like always, massive ganks, and when a 1 v 1 happens that I actually start to win, the majority of folks will run away or call in back up, or come flying in with a spell precasted on a 2nd account attacking you, etc...

yep, I'm wrong about pussy tactics :p

Only the ignorant have said item insurance in this thread. Every single one of the people you mentioned ALREADY HAVE THE ABILITY TO BLESS FACTION WEAPONS, with ease (despite the control napo seems to think he has). Meaning, if you need it spelled out, they already have what I've suggested be made available to the masses. Not just the zerglings :)

PS: "You don't PvP" is Liberation's mating call. Something I would never say, considering I have actually fought you.
