This! So somewhat new to this shard but basically what I am seeing here is that warriors are still completely Terrible next to mages. Also if you want to pvp you basically are forced to join factions... I'm not a big fan of this. This server seems like it has a great community but there is a lot to be desired when it comes to balancing. So basically I cannot create the non faction dexer pvp player I wanted to and am better off making a glass canon mage like the rest of everyone else..
Let me just add to this.. The whole reason i.. and others.. hate Trammel is because it removes the risk vs reward aspect of uo. If you want to walk around with the most powerful gear in the game able of killing anyone in your path there should be some risk to it.. that is that you can get ganked and looted. Allowing factions to have blessed gear is ultra fail and gives a serious disadvantage to the other players.. might as well introduce Trammel so people can avoid risk altogether.. at least then it's fair for everyone and not just faction players. Right now there's a big reward and virtually no risk for pvp mages .. it's been a big issue in most shards I have played.
Right, so strip out that big reward for no risk and make everyone have the same risk for dying by losing all of their general supplies. Not losing your weapon on death makes your corpse loot identical to anyone else's. All supplies. Nothing is forcing you to join factions. You can build a dexxer and go out to fight whoever the hell you want, whether they like it or not. That's what makes it Felucca. Faction blessing has done nothing negative to the pvp scene and never will. It's just something for have-nots to cry about because they don't want to work to get it.
I'm simply saying blessed anything is what killed the game.. it leads to destroyed economies and unbalance by pampering to the carebears. In my opinion factions should follow the same guidelines as everyone else including loss of gear. The other perks alone already make it quite appealing.
Then you're simply wrong. What killed the game was its dated appearance for the most part. If you look at the stats, the subscriptions peaked well after Trammel was added along with all kinds of blessings and shit. If what you mean is "what killed the game for me", then perhaps item blessing was it. Personally I feel that in comparison to the grand scheme of things, having a few blessed items isn't changing the mechanics of pvp or the free will nature of Felucca. I just feel that it would make for better balance to allow Slayer Weapons or other to be blessed considering every other template that combats monsters has the tools of its trade blessed (runebooks, ethereals, bonded pets). There are no other "perks" to Factions, so I'm not sure what you're referring to unless you're talking about OSI. Our Faction system here is a stripped down version without taxation, etc. As I've said though, no problem for me, I've already got a truckload of loot and items here. If there were a high gold cost (actually removed from the game world) for the blessings, that wouldn't hurt the economy, it would only benefit it. As it stands the only thing we have that removes gold from the economy are reagents and hair dye/name change deeds. /snore
I think you just like to argue. The reasoning for subs peaking around Trammel had more to do with marketing and larger budget allocations for game expansion and advertising due to recent successes. They obviously were trying to create ways to appeal to more and more people but what they did was remove an item sink and create a jacked up economy by introducing trammel. People's accounts piled up causing a rediculous cliff on valuable items; things were either worth lots or worthless. We could go on and on about all the changes that participated in the collapse of osi and other servers but many of the reasons are ultimately tied to the in game economy. Take a look at a game like Diablo 2 that has frequent ladder resets. People grind the hell out of the game to reacquire the best of the best items. If they kept their gear forever they would have stopped playing 6 Months after release.
I definitely enjoy conversation and debate but I don't argue for the sake of argument. I reply for the sake of engaging in conversation if I have something to say. If you were working for OSI at the time, I'll take your word for it. Otherwise, I firmly believe the increase in subs was because they made the game playable for the masses that just want to play a good RPG without getting murdered every time they leave GZ. There's a reason WoW is so successful and they didn't pull their model from thin air or anything. Grief laden games of free will are NOT profitable and they never will be again. Catering to the masses who don't want to lose things they've worked for, is where the money is. Just look around at the gaming market of present day and it's all Trammel. A PROFITABLE idea that started out on OSI. I never lost anything on Diablo II worth batting an eye at and I played the hell out of that game. Hell, I still have it installed on a few computers and if I didn't just get the XBox One and Diablo III, I'd probably still play it sometimes with my kids. Again, you cite the in-game economy. If you go look at our graphs and our ever increasing mountain of gold...how do you think that will ever improve unless we have tangible things to remove a sizable amount from the game?
I'd favor something like 'one bonded' weapon per player. I'd even go so far as to then classify the weapon as 2 'followers' so that if a tamer wants to have a bonded weapon they would also thusly need to travel with fewer pets. That way, just like tamers get their bonded dragon swords, dexxers and warriors would have something similar. THEN Telamon could work on a Dexxer themed end game feature that allows dexxers to add 'personalized weapons' But it should definitely be end game stuff here, requiring lots of gold and only to be used on things like blue valorite axes (which would still decay and therefore need to be repaired/fortified). But otherwise, no blessing of armor or other items.
Finally, a voice of understanding for balance. I would gladly hunt down 25 special mobs to kill to fill a scroll to open a private event where I faced great challenge in order to attain one blessed weapon slot. What's fair is fair people and while you sit around on bonded mares while bonded dragons clean up the mobs and you carry nothing but 30/each and a blessed book....think about what you're risking. Don't talk about time because everyone knows building a 7x anything is literally nothing at all anymore.
I believe in gold sinks, whether they be for a "bonded" weapon or charging Pk's so much gold per kill in order to res. The economy here is simply jacked up, and in order to achieve a more balanced economy I see no reason why things like "bonded" weapons couldn't be introduced. One weapon per character is not going to ruin the game for anyone, in fact I can envision more PvP taking place as people might actually take a step or two out of their towers, keeps and castles in order to engage in some field fighting if there was the possibility of retaining their "uber" weapon of doom. You know the weapon I'm talking about, the one that causes you to shit your pants at the very thought of losing it should you fall in battle. That's why CTF has been so appealing IMO, people can bring their l33t weapons and not have to panic if they take a dirt nap. So I believe allowing people to bond one weapon per character would not only serve as a good gold sink, but would be a big step in getting people out into the field to PvP. It would also help those PvMers who finally saved enough money to get that awesome slayer weapon but never take it out because one loss of conn or PK attack and it's all over.
I also thought of perhaps a more balanced solution, involving hirelings! Now before you say 'hirelings are worthless' hear out this plan and then go and see this alternate post and vote! Now if we were to have 'blessed' weapons, you can guarantee everyone and their uncle would immediately go out and bless their most 'prized' weapon and eventually (and rather quickly i'd wager) we'd get to that state where nobody goes out without their blessed weapon unless they are poor and can't afford it. Also, although a nice ol' blessed valorite ax would look pretty, youd' still face the same dilemma: Your face versus a balrons strike. But! What if you could permanently hire hirelings and train them up like tames, and rez them with stat loss if they perish, but also ARM them! Now I'm not suggesting that humanoid hirelings should have stats anywhere close to dragons, but I am suggesting that you can train them up and equip them with gear (consumes item) Now the possibilities of this in indeed great just consider: 1. this would help 'clean up' all the unused items that all of us horde! just stick it on your squire and head out to adventure! 2. this would provide the proverbial end game content for dexxers! 3. this would just be awesome!
They also changed the status quo with Trammel in regards to how people used accounts. Before that time, it was one house per character. After Trammel, things changed over to more accounts (ie. more subscriptions/money) meaning more stuff in game in a more direct manner. Each account was a house, extra set of BOD farmers, etc... Making the extra subscriptions necessary to get more housing/items bumped subscriptions...not the popularity of the game. I read somewhere that the actual number of players (IP's) took quite a hit after everything settled out after Trammel, but that subscriptions still continued to rise for a time. In the end, by making things more trammel they ended up with more end-game content...which eventually spelled the downward spiral that shortly followed. This is why you should lose your weapons. "End-Game" content is the worst idea ever invented for a game that wants people to continue playing. This server SERIOUSLY needs more "ladder resets" and less "End-Game" content. What's next? Blessed Repond Instruments for the bards? You can't leave out bards if you go down this path. What about mages? Lower Reagent Cost suits? Its only fair! You know how much they spend on reagents? Ask Telamon, its a HUGE gold sink. What about blessed mining gloves? Ah, screw it, let's just have power scrolls and Item Insurance...it'll work great! Hell, just bring on in AoS and ItemQuest while we're at it!!! As soon as you create a situation where you can "rest on your laurels" in some skill/items aspect of the game, you have created a broken game mechanic, in my opinion. Everything is starting to lean towards Trammel in this thread and it is a TERRIBLE idea in the long run. I seriously want to slap the crap out of the lot of you. No to blessing or "bonding" of any kind for weapons....and I still wish bonded pets took a steeper stat/skill hit upon death. If I had it my way, they would "reset" to what they were when they were freshly spawned. Stop the Trammel nonsense, you are going to ruin a perfectly good server with this completely garbage idea.
Yeah I had to change my perspective after thinking on this which is why I'd favor a permanent hireling. Lightshade articulated very well the same thoughts and worries I would have with the inevitable result of blessed weapons. The only point I contend is that you do want to provide some end goal or achievements or else you might suffer the exact same outcome as Lightshade proposed would happen.
lol, Mages/Bards already have their primary weapon fully newbied, right from the start. It's called a spellbook. There's no need to add more buffs for them because they are already losing NOTHING tangible in the field. Show me an instrument that has sold for 250k and I'll consider the concept of instrument blessings. If you want to remove pet bonding altogether and have spellbooks drop on death, I'm all for it. Otherwise balance = perfection. Allowing one simple reprieve that puts weapon fighters on a similar financial balance as literally every other template around would only improve the field. If anyone's losing sleep over not finding a top tier weapon on a victim's corpse, they're just a bitch.
Sorry Blaise, there is absolutely nothing that you can say, twist, or dream up that will ever convince me that we should introduce anything like Blessings and Insurance for weapons. Sorry, I do not agree with your notion of balance and think it is the opposite of perfection. Its the kind of damned foolish idea that would make me seriously consider quitting this server if it were ever implemented. Just say no to Trammel.
The same can be said for people who have quit/don't play here because of bonded tames, blessed runebooks and inability to gate-steal pets. Get over yourself, there's nothing you can do now about the Trammel that is already here. The only way to make it right is to spread that jelly across the whole piece of bread. If you're so against blessings, why are you even here? This shard has a format of "you're not ready until you've got your bonds and your blessed books" so why does one class have to be the only one's getting shit on for 250k+ when they die? Oh right, you're bad a math. It's ok if you don't like the facts but that is plain and simple. There's no denying at all that adding bonding, ethereals and blessed runebooks was a HUGE hookup for every PvM class that isn't wielding a weapon.
