Cynic's Guide to Fishing Templates: Fishing Magery Meditation Evaluating Intelligence Preference Preference Preference Fishing Archery Tactics Anatomy Healing Magery Preference And any variation of the above two popular templates. Personally I prefer to run magery over archery because magery is cheaper and, in my opinion, more effective. All sea creatures are very weak to the energy bolt spell and as such can be killed rather easily with a simple energy bolt spam. Anything other than a regular sea serpent will take anywhere between one to several breaks for meditation if you are only running one mage on your boat. More on this later. Skill Gain: On UOR you are allowed to macro Fishing unattended with the following rules: 1. You must be on land. 2. You can only macro unattended while raising skill in Fishing (So, once you hit GM you can no longer be unattended). Raising skill can take anywhere between a day to several days depending on how well constructed your macro is. Water "tiles" can only be fished a certain amount of times before getting the "the fish don't seem to be biting here" message. It works if you can find a spot where you can set your macro to fish several water tiles or construct a macro that walks you around the docks where you can ensure a steady supply of spawning water tiles. (I hope this makes sense) 0-65 - On land you will fish up Footwear, Magic Fish, and Normal Fish. 80+ - Sea Serpents (No SoS Message), Special Fishing Nets. 90+ - Treasure Maps 100 - Messages in a Bottle (aka MIB) / Waterstained SoS Message 95+ - You can reel in Big Fish which can be used to make Trophies via Taxidermy Kits. You can get to 100% fishing on land, but deep sea fishing gives much faster skill gains. Monsters will never spawn by fishing from land. (Thanks to Zyler for this skill layout) 80+ Skill and Fishing From a Boat: Once you get 80 shown skill in Fishing you'll be able to fish up Sea Serpents while out at sea. Sea Serpents that you fish up can contain one of 4 different "rewards." Special Fishing Net (These can also spawn in a variety of rare hues) -Nets can be thrown from a boat to spawn special monsters or a sunken pirate ship. There are additional rewards possible from the monsters/shipwreck, most commonly an Ancient Message in a Bottle. Do not throw your special hued nets, players will pay a premium for these rare nets. Message in a Bottle -MiBs are similar to treasure maps. You do not need any special skills to decode, find, or fish up the map (other than fishing of course). Simply plot the course, using UOAM, and sail to the location of the MiB to fish up a treasure chest. A Big Fish -Big Fish are somewhat rare to fish up. The fish can range in weight from 1 stone to 200 stones. These fish are commonly used during Zyler's Fishing Tournaments. Otherwise, you can use a taxidermy kit to mount a prize catch in your home. The lighter or heavier a fish weighs is what makes them rare and valuable. Level 1 Treasure Map -Worse than fishing up a catfish. On a very rare chance you can fish up a Shipwreck Kraken. You'll be able to loot an AMiB from the corpse of the Kraken. The AMiBs (Different colored scrolls) allow you to enter an instanced area to kill monsters for loot. More here: http://uorforum.com/threads/renaissance-blog-ancient-soss.1709/ Strategy: I prefer to run 3 fisherman at once, you spawn more serpents and are able to kill them faster. My fishermen are all mages and can kill any sea monster with ease: Some players prefer to run one fisher alongside a PvM character like a tamer. Some players like to use archers. This is all personal preference. My fishers all used to be archers, I'm glad I decided to try magery, in my opinion it just works better. I think this sums it all up, if I missed anything please let me know.
only thing i can say is possibly your fishing macro but rest is good stuff cheers p.s. i have yet to pull a big fish or special hued net out and i'm at 100 fishing
My macros may not work for all. It would be easier to just create your own. The nets/big fish are very very very rare, especially if you have only one fisher.
my macro i have at the moment is siting at back of boat and able to hit 4 spots in a row and just loop it Double click(fish pole) wait for target absolute target (changed to reliative location) wait 5 seconds do this for the 4 spots and changed absolute target to reliative location and that way if you want to move to other fishing holes you don't need to change macro for target
Fishing bot is my initial macro that just fishes by relative location, eats magic fish, and (used to) cut shoes/boots etc. This macro will also call for a "stop" command to the tillerman if a serpent gets fished up. Sync: spams target nearest gray and spam energy bolt.
You'll want to make sure you're there when you hit GM though as the AFK gump can pop up then. For my fishers, I set my skills so they could go no higher than 99.9 fishing, then got the last point when I could monitor it.
BTW, if you forget to do this or it fails or whatever and you do get jailed, GMs can see that you were on shore and will remove the mark
I need these macros in my life! (by that I mean I need to make some of my own incorporating these features).
Hi Rezon. Forgive me for bumping this old thread. But could you tell me how to caps your skills so they don't go beyond a certain level when you're AFK? Is it something you built into the macro? I.E. if sysmessage "Skill has increased to blah blah"?
There is probably an easier way, but I just made sure that I had a .1 locked away on a skill so it would be impossible to hit 100.0. You can see-saw a skill to .1 if you have 700 skill points. Does that make sense?
I tried a similar way with another skill about a month ago and it didn't work. I think I overcomplicated the sys message, didn't think to just type the desired skill number lol.
