Re-written less dramatically and after some time passed: There is a fail possibility for GM thieves when stealing some plats (a stack of 1 stone weight in total). This can't be right and it's not era accurate. Please, can you check this out? Did you modify steal rates for plats only? And if so, I don't think it's very good to protect people from thieving that much in Felucca.

Pah! Btw, the steal worked on your 6 plats... though, gratz on the statue! I guess the rich always get richer, even when stolen from.

But really, these fails are brutal.

And if everybody had a tamer with two dragons and a Nightmare, the world would smell like Dragon poop.

Different playstyle. No fun spamming 'all kill'.

What are you even talking about? There shouldnt be fails on 5 plats. Their weight is 1 stone in total and this makes no sense mechanicwise. Or it has been decided to protect people's plats via mechanics. (I'd love to hear that officially, if so).

It's not important for this discussion that I could make more money with a tamer or a bard. (And I think, the server overall profits from varying play style including thieves and some good/funny written thief stories in the forums)

I heard from an old wizard in the depths of Deceit once, that platinum is a magical coin born of evil and heavy with the weight of such guilt as one cannot imagine!

I think you should always have a chance to fail, dunno why you believe that you deserve 100% success. Especially when we're talking about something worth over 30k. So easy to be a thief at a big champ I see it go down often and they almost always get away

you anti thief gays are stupid, we just want the class to work like it did on prodo, or at least reflect the way it should work. It's been broken since beta and the only attention it seems to get are more nerfs (except for the one instance where they took out npc sight through walls and gave us always go grey)

It's part of fel UO and it's a slap in the face to pretend you want to perfect the era when there is such a problem with one of the skill sets that was a favorite of many players. Nerf tamers the same way and see how you trammys bitch.

I used to lean towards the "platinum's weight should equate it's value", however, I will say this:

Production champ spawns didn't drop platinum, they dropped powerscrolls. IIRC powerscrolls were 1 stone each and were a guaranteed steal.

Considering how platinum is the powerscroll of our champs I'm going to have to change my opinion on this and say that you shouldn't fail on stealing 5 plat.

People just need to learn how to take thieves out of the equation by using a locked container and a macro on loop that organizes platinum into the locked chest.

Go buy a wooden box from a provisioner, use magic lock on it, and keep all your stuff in it. The only thing you can't keep in it are your pots and bandages.

With proper security measures (ask Vella if you need too), a thief get's exactly ZERO plats out of the champ spawns. And you argue with our wealth, which has no meaning. I am really playing alot right now and half of the time on my PvMer. I played yesterday like 12 hours on my thief and got roughly 15 plats and 60k out of it (thats 150k value in 12 hours not one hour). And I am totally fine with that. It's just that you and others assume, a thief recalls in, passes some random players, steals a huge amount of loot and then leaves easily.

It's just as this, you have to stealth undetected far quite a long time around many dangers, position yourself right and think about escaping, and so much more, just in order to get a RNG chance to be succesful, while around you people are doing ZERO security measures against your profession. Right now, we have to use all our skills to get into the casino. The RNG at the slot machine still messes everything up with a very stupid and unfair, uncaculable luck-factor.

Many players are just lazy, that's my statement. And admit it, even you had no security measures yesterday. You guys get your 3 accounts out, partially afk on them and still get protection by RNG and alot thief-haters around. Even if you have your tracker thief and your PK, I doubt you play nearly the amount of hours with them like me or Jack. Else you would share that frustration of doing everything right and being screwed by bad luck.

You're a thief with a phoenix suit (or was it two now) in the first year on the shard?. stfu

You're doing just fine without platinum being as light as gold. When 5 pieces is worth 30,000k+ gold, I'm not going to support that being a 100% success theft. I never use locked boxes and just had a slayer katana nicked last night at Neira (pretty sure that was you also).

Anyway, no disrespect to the play style despite how much I loathe thieves. I see no justifiable reason why platinum should be reduced in weight to make it easier for you to rip people off. There's plenty of other shit to steal and I think the better thing to adjust would be stack stealing. As a GM Thief, I would think your skills would allow you to only attempt to steal as much plat as you can steal from a pile with 100% success. If that's 1-2, that's fine you just have to make multiple attempts.

TL:DR = Stack theft is a bigger issue.

As a person that plays a Tamer as their main character, I'm going to have to agree that stealing does need some changes done to it. I think it's much more exhausting to partake in these Champs and Events as a thief than you're giving credit to Gideon. I can go to any of these on my Tamer or Bard and easily come out ahead, when there's no guarantee of having a successful steal even if you do everything right on your part as the thief.

Lastly, I will say that I think you misunderstand our intentions with the Thieving Perfected thread. It was put there to garner more interest in thieving as a profession (as opposed to it being just Blackeye, Random, Tuco, and myself consistently playing) and also to entertain potential new-comers to the shard with stories. The intent was NOT to rub it in peoples faces, but I can see why you may have thought that. I personally have been told by numerous new and veteran players alike that it is their favorite thread on the forums

Has anyone described how stealing platinum works yet? I'm confused. I definitely lifted 20 from someone at a Harrower a long time ago, and don't recall any patch notes on changes.

I'm not claiming to know any better than you, just merely sharing my personal experience as this was my first time attending a champ on my thief. But I do know that I've failed numerous attempts at stealing platinum stacks after waiting hours at holiday events.

Dalavar, as far as I've seen the staff hasn't really addressed the mechanics even though its been brought up numerous times. Should definitely conduct some testing on TC to get an idea of the actual fail rates for different stacks.

I am with you on that one. I haven't played my thief in quite some time but the times I did I never had a fail stealing small amounts of plat or hcoin. I have seen nothing as far as weights being changed or success chances being lowered but I have not tested this at all either.
