What do you guys think of being able to recharge your wands with a certain type of resource. Thinking something like bones?

    10 bones = 1 charge.

or if you want you can have a different resource for each wand.

Preferably not make this super hard that only tamers can achieve this as they can only achieve most things already. Also they probably have the most wands.

It's an interesting idea. Not sure how the impact on economy would be though.

And you got something wrong. Tamers are cash and plat machines who can afford to buy wands. Dungeon Crawlers are the
ones that collect bulk amounts of wands. Right now there is really good profits for these ppl (mainly non-elite players). Wouldn't want to impact that market negatively.

I was thinking about this a few days ago, but I don't think people should be able to do it on the fly ... and besides that, if I'm being honest, I realized that I just wanted free wands. You can already farm them with a lockpicker or a with tmaps and neither require a tamer.

Well I don't mind if the resource was scarce so it wasn't convenient to recharge but not have it drop on bosses where only tamers and not dungeon crawlers can obtain.

I am not sure if I understand you right, but right now you dont need a tamer or even fighter to get many wands. Monster drop is minimal compared to the amount in chests.

Also, with the price of wands, and gold being pretty easy to get, would the needed resource for recharge be worth evening trying to farm/buy?

It would have to be something like item X completely recharges wand X with its original maximum charges. But item X would have to be cheaper/easier to get then to get a full wand of the same kind, so there would obviously be a point of diminishing return. This would result is players seeking out and keeping the highest charged wands they could find, and then just finding item X to keep that wand perpetually full. This, to me, would then shift the balance of the economy to favor item X and highest charged wand X over any other wands of lower charges, which then would undercut every other wand, and that would be a hit to the economy.

But this is all assuming that the mechanics for recharge are indeed item X fully recharge wand X. Another method might be more prudent, but again, then you have to balance to cost of item X over the cost of just buying a new fully charged wand.

    Just my thoughts.

P.S. Didnt OSI , at one point, allow gems to be used to recharge wands?

How about using gold to recharge the wand? The price to do so would go up based on total world gold, i.e. inflation. Perhaps, the wands have been made of gold all along and the magic discharge has depleted the metal.

But, then again, I don't really use wands. I can do without any feature such as this.

This would let some small amounts of gold disappear from the world, but would destroy the player market.

Actually, I totally like the situation how it is. Everybody can collect wands, if they want to. It's really an open and newbie-friendly profession, the Dungeon Crawler that is. Right now, the incentive wasn't just good enough to collect wands. The demand also increased due to factions and alot pvp. It's only natural that prices go up. The next step is that more players will collect more wands.

if we could make recharging wands a GIANT gold sink, I'm cool with that. It's only the 1% that really uses them. Get gold out of this economy!

So you're saying no one uses them (1%), yet no one will sell them.

If people liked to survive pk attacks and were smart, they would be using them.

I would say a good 1/3 of the shard uses them.

No, you dont use them for surviving PKs. You hit your escape macro as fast as you can. But perhaps some well placed wand casts would scare PKs off, who knows.

They are mainly used for PvP. And with rising faction activity the demand increased. It's just a bit boring to get the wands. But right now, there is a market. And this is good. The prices have to be high, to get players into dungeon crawling and skip killing monsters. If you want tipps for that, my offer to PM me is standing. I wil certainly consider looting some dungeon chests myself as long as there are high prices for wands.

i don't really feel like there is a problem with the wand market. in fact, i believe that it is one of the healthier markets in our economy. it provides a playstyle which otherwise does not generate a huge amount of wealth with a resource that converts very readily to gp.

    ain't broke.

My solution was to use an empty character slot on one of my three accounts and to create a new character who spent about 4 days macroing item ID. The GM merchant now logs in and in about 30 seconds identifies the few pouches I have filled. So, 4 days investment, log in for 30 seconds, and 375 items identified. Besides, who isn't a mage? I just gate to a bank, dump loot, and gate back to the farm.

ID wands have their purpose and enable you to farm more efficiently as sorting 365 items takes alot time, while you usually have spare time when farming.

And you ignore all the pvp related wands.

This is an interesting idea, but it could only be allowed to fill a wand to the max # of charges it started with.

Simply as a method to combine wands, but not change their functionality in the field of play.

Other discussions could be had on inscription possibly crafting wands with a mechanic similar to runebooks where the quality of the item determines the amount of charges.
(Blank wands with no charges, could be charged with looted charged wands).

The discussion here should look into the effect such a change would have on PvP interactions as well.

I took Blackeye's advice on the dungeon crawling thing. I can't farm for more than 30 minutes before getting bored, I'm still new to the shard, and I only have small amounts of time sporadically to play. I invested very little to get up to 80's LP, and I get tons of crap I'm stockpiling to sell later. Haven't even hit level 4 chests yet.

Eliminating the small fry players like me from the economy can be discouraging. If you can farm 100k gold in an hour or two, you can handle 1-5k for a wand. Recharging is a cool idea, but unnecessary in my opinion. If they can be crafted, recharged, or in any other way more common, they become less valuable.

If you PvP often, you lose gear. Some more than others. I don't feel bad for upper tier players losing small amounts of gold replacing stuff. Not trying to crap on the idea, but it would be salting my play style, so I'm against it.
