Intense Server Lag

I will just add my personal experience:

I used to be lag free when the server was located in TX. We started experiencing DDoS attacks constantly, which lead to the eventual server move to Chicago. DDoS attacks still happening, but were eventually mitigated, however, my ping has increased a fair amount, and I desync quite often when simply running around or casting spells etc, and always have to use my resync hotkey. Lag "spikes" are also noticed, where I will freeze for maybe 2-3 seconds at a time. This seems to happen frequently, but I can't say that it happens "exactly x minutes". When these spikes occur, it is felt server-wide (as anyone playing in voice all say "LAG!!" at the same time).

I am wondering if the increase is due to some sort of added layer of security that was used to rid the DDoS attacks (additional firewall, security layer etc..).

You are definitely not alone on feeling these @Por Corp Wis . Out of curiosity, what region / state etc are you located in?

@Chris TY for the info regarding the server and bottlenecking in Texas. I had no idea i hate iphones and wouldnt take one if it were given as a gift rofl :) Hopefully all that IOS downloading dies down soon and we can have some better performance!

@Pill You seem to be experiencing exactly what I am TY for the corroboration.

I thought what you experience is far worse, PCW?

From what it's worth, I'm in UK and was also experiencing lag spikes (they're really spikes and occur every now and then) every day and lost connection 2-3 weeks ago.

Also - Just saw you said you had 14-17 ping. Daaamn! Are you playing on the local network from within the datacenter?? lol Wish I were so lucky..

Everyone is welcome to contact me if you are having consistent lag so we can review traceroutes and look into a possible cause of the problem.

Latency for 1-2 days can sometimes be normal depending on your distance from the server. Constantly latency for more than a week can be other issues including network saturation close to home, pathing/dns issues or other causes.

I cant really directly compare without seeing a video or stream of his problems to really compare. As I said my issues are frustrating, hurt my efficiency but are playable. Annoying and could be better, but playable.

Well shit I will most certainly take you up on this Chris. I am a very tech/computer savvy person but networking/etc is an extreme weak point of mine with a ton of ignorance on my behalf so...ya...Ill me PMing you if you are offering this ty :)

I have the same type of lag/pause Pill described. If I'm attacked by monsters and move away from them they won't gain any ground on me during a pause. Same goes for casting monsters the casting is paused (at least that's my perception), as if the monsters are lagged as well. I would describe it as a pause of one to two seconds. NY ping: 40-50's

This is a shard-wide problem, which can be easily noticed if you are in voice communications with a group. Regardless of ping, geographic location or anything else, everyone freezes simultaneously and for the same duration. This problem existed a couple of years ago and was resolved in some way or another. It resurfaced probably 6 months ago or more. In fact, I'm fairly certain it was happening again before the migration to the new host.

That's not to say you can't have your own lag or moments of degraded connection quality, just that there is a problem with the shard freezing for a second every so often with no obvious cause.

    Pill explained it very well.
I got exactly the same problem.

For me, it feels exactly like a server save. It seems to me like everything pauses for a couple of seconds and resumes as normal.

Now that its been mentioned and im paying more attention to the details of how I am affected I also have the "server pause" and I have it frequently.

Im going to post a video of my black triangle artifact soon and would love to see if other people have it to this same extent or not....

Do we still have DDoS attacks? For the last weeks, I thought they were gone. In the last few days though, I have been regularly losing connection again.

The black triangles that I get are from the edges of the screen not being drawn yet while I am still running forward. Is that what you're getting?

As far as the black object issue is concerned, what is your computer's resolution set at? 1920x1080? What is your game resolution set at? Do you use force resolution in Razor? If so, what setting?
