Been lurking for awhile, decided to finally make an account because I have a question!

So, I'm currently at 42.1 tailoring REAL skill, and I've been trying to follow the guides in order to gain skill. However, I'm finding that I'm gaining next to nothing. As per my skill level, and as per this guide http://www.uorenaissance.com/info/?page=g_info_t2&id=234 on the site, I should be making Fancy Shirts until about 48 REAL skill, but I'm finding when I make those, I can go through 1k cloth before I hit a gain. I have 100% success chance with fancy shirts, with roughly 40% chance exceptional.

Am I doing something wrong? Tailoring is supposed to be super easy and cheap on this server, lol, but I seem to have hit a bump in the road.

    Thanks in advance!

I found one of the main tailoring guides unprecise. Perhaps some inconsistency with Real vs Shown skill. My advice, look through the item options for a different item that has ~70% success rate and is not consuming too much cloth. You will get good gains. Switch as soon as possible back to the guide, which is in general showing the best option.

Yes you are and that guide is wrong.

If you have 100% chance of doing something, you can't gain off it. This is the primary rule for UO skill gain.

I think at all skills, 30%-40% success chance should get you good gains (also check everything to make sure you spend as least as cloth possible of course). Can you check things that's in that range?

Someone correct me if there's another way, as it's been a while since I GM'd a tailor, but I would go:

    Fancy Dress to ~55
    Robes to 74.6
    Oil Cloths to 99.6
    Studded Leather Gorgets until GM.

Yeah I went rogue from the guide, and started doing fancy dresses last night, and 5 gains within 2 minutes. I was just planning on going that way, but I just wanted some clarification.

    Thanks guys!

I'm gonna run with this for the next little bit, I'll let you know how it works out.

Was this real skill or shown? I'm assuming shown since at 50.3 shown, I'm at 81% to create
