Did a lot of soul searching after an incident I had with El Horno and I have to say I'm sorry. Most people won't know what I'm apologizing for... basically it's for acting like a jerk and a child. Even to the group I feel has destroyed factions on the server the Dank Nuggets... I think quite a few of them are jerks and I don't like how they play but I resorted to personal attacks and that was childish and stupid. Same with Horno...I called him names and acted like an idiot because of what I felt he did. I still don't agree with his tactics but I acted like an ahole and I'm sorry.

A player named Mike said I should decide what I thought was fun and how I should play. I did just that, and almost left the server entirely. I think there are some bad apples on here but it is not by any means the majority and from the outside looking in I could be seen as one of the bad apples because of how I conducted myself on IRC. I am playing on another server now because of all this and it's not a bad place, people hooked me up with an unbelievable amount of stuff to start and I almost feel like it would be rude to just not play there now. But UOR is my home. I have played solo the entire time I have have played here and went from a small house to a fortress and owning a crazy amount of stuff. More than that though, I've had a lot of fun. When I meet people in game (mostly new because I feel like they can be trusted more than someone who has been playing for a long time and might have some sort of agenda) I get a kick out of discussing what UOR has to offer compared to other servers out there and helping them get on their feet like Apoc and S3X did for me over a year and a half ago. The server has changed enormously since then and grown by leaps and bounds. I've done my best to promote UOR and I'm proud to be a member of it.

I also want to apologize to Telamon. People reading this may be 100% happy here and not looked around at other UO shards. But after the last week of feeling depressed about what I've done to myself on here and thinking leaving would be the best option, I can clearly say there is no other shard that cares 1/10th as much as Chris does about UOR. I, like several others, take offense to how people bad mouth events and certain aspects of UOR life because if you look around (try looking at the "Top 100 UO shards" list on Google for example) at how other shards conduct themselves, you're gonna find they either use the game to make money for themselves at the cost of all else or they are completely absent from the shard--no support, no tournaments, no in-game events...nothing. No IRC channel either...what's out there is totally empty. I agree IRC kind of takes away from people talking in game as much but it's nice to have a live forum where people discuss and show their care for the game, and it's unique to this shard. What Telamon does for us is astounding. This Halloween event kind of woke me up to that fact more than ever. I feel like my attitude pissed all over that effort he gives so I apologize to him as well.

At any rate...I'm going to keep playing. I don't know to what extent, but I'll never leave for good. I appreciate the community and the care for the server everyone has here. I'm going to be a different person from now on...even to the Nuggets. I may get killed by 5 of them right after an event when I'm naked and unarmed...but I won't talk shit afterward.

Oh and Horno...I haven't tmapped at all since the incident...but when I do I'll chop my chests. ;)

It's totally normal to play multiple UO shards at once. With the niche getting smaller every year and shards tailoring their content to specific playstyles, you almost have to play multiple shards to actually get a sense of UO anymore.

Maybe you should just take a break from the faction scene, it sounds like it's just more drama than it's worth, especially if it was a factor in you wanting to leave in the first place. It seems a lot of self-consciousness goes along with factions - not wanting to look bad or having to deal with insults after being killed, ultra-competitiveness, clashing egos and other mean spirited ill-will that gets thrown around and often spills over into forums and irc. It's bad enough in real life having to worry about drama in our own lives, not looking bad in front of coworkers who wanna see us fail, or dealing with negativity from clients, customers, the boss, etc. UOR is a great place to not have to deal with the rigors of real life when we get the time to play, so I hope that you find something here that you enjoy where you don't have to deal with all that crap that wanted you to leave in the first place. Its great that even when we get bored with our current UOR situation we can usually try something new or be someone new here just to shake things up.

I don't really play in factions. I have a faction guy but I hate how one-sided it is here. I remember huge faction battles back in the day with all four or at the very least 2 good factions. Here there's SL and that's it. It's just a bummer...

My basic gaming advice and lifestyle is the same in UO as it is in any other game.

Do whats fun for you....whatever that is....PvM/PvP/grief or attempted grief/PK/ whatever....

If it aint fun dont do it. Try to find whatever it is that entertains you and stick to that.

If nothing is fun...find something else to do.

I personally love the playerbase here and find almost everyone to be awesome to play with/against. I do however think that many peoples actions on this server make ZERO sense and dont contribute to what most people would consider be fun or "healthy play" but thats their choice to spend their time how they want to.

Thank you so much, Timelord; I am happy you decided to stay here and not leave completely.
That is one big issue with online (any games, multi-player), Is the personality conflicks. and, yes, it can be difficult at times to "pull back" from that and not be engulfed with the drama. Regardless which game you are involved in.
For me UOR serves all my UO needs, but i agree with PFR, for players who wants a bit more of one style. Back in the day, I used to play multi shards, Pacific, Lake Superior, a couple of Koreans ones, just for the verity of players and "feel".
Timelord said.: " When I meet people in game (mostly new because I feel like they can be trusted more than someone who has been playing for a long time and might have some sort of agenda)"
I do dislike this statement. LOL! I am one of the first players who did the Alpha test for this server and have never left. I truly don't believe I have any negative agendas going on.
No hard feelings thou, Offers friend hugs.

Reemer, welcome to UOR. I am Westra on IRC, my main in game is Marjo. Unfortunately, my real has been super busy last few months, so not able to be in-game or on IRC, but when I am, feel free to pm me if you need anything.

    Timelord,

I dont think I have had any interactions with you personally, but I commend you for being honest and introspective. Open letters like this are classy, in my book.

Hope you stick around, and your renewed attitude helps the community, and the new players, to continue to see how great this shard is.

I feel I could have or should have written pretty much the same thing, give or take a few sentiments. Good on you for taking that mature step and apologizing. I don't do it nearly enough, even though I absolutely do.

Players come and go for their own reasons and when it's not due to RL contraints, it's almost always a significant change, or lack thereof, that they needed to distance themselves from.

Cheers and have fun wherever you game.

Hey man, I just want to say that posting a thread like this takes HUGE balls and courage. I give you major props for that, and am glad you are staying with the server.

I think if you let your guard down a bit and get to know the people better, you'll see more and more of the good in them. UOR really is a friendly place, just avoid the people that are toxic or piss you off. For instance, I know you've gotten into it with el horno but theres a side of him that's a really nice person.

TLDR: el horno shits on some dude for no reason, SL somehow comes off looking like the bad guy

My advice to you, Timelord, is to forgive but to never forget. Some of these guys will gladly fuck you over a second time (and a third, and so on) if you turn a blind eye to bad behavior. UO is a game that rewards constant vigilance.

It wasn't for no reason I gave him a reason--being an ass. And the Nuggets know how they play the game. They are quite proud of what they've done to factions in fact.

I teally appreciate the kind words from everyone but honestly I shouldn't have even had to write all this I should have acted like an adult from the start. I let my emotions get the best of me I felt like I did when I played this game 20 years ago when I was much younger lol.

Sound advice tho Napo, that's the main reason I play solo. There are good people on here, I interact with newbies a lot because I know they can't hurt me (in general, not in dead character terms) and they are excited to be starting out. It's fun to help...but for the most part I know you can't trust many people and its sad. It's the way UO has always been tho it's not new to UOR.
