Currently they drop silver instruments. Seeing as how Tera spawn drops ophedian instruments shouldnt ophedians drop tera instruments?
I was going to +1 this the other day since I remembered getting Silvers off of them before, but it had been awhile since I really hunted any snake-people. Not sure if it was a Matriarch, Avenger, or Knight-Errant, but one of the three dropped an Arachnid Doom tambourine today. I think it was a Matriarch.
Yeah I think Silver instruments are default. I have gotten silver off of a lot of different mobs that it doesn't make sense to get silver from (Cyclops).
I believe cyclops are specifically intended to drop silver, actually. But yeah, silver is a dissappointingly common on far too many mobs.
It seems like lower level and lower intensity items are always silver. The slayer instruments are on stronger mobs and are higher intensity items. Ophidians (along with dragons and other reptiles) all drop spider and terathan slayers.
