Hi all, thought it would be a good idea to have a list of the people that stream UOR. List your stream below in this format! Forum name Twitch ID Play style Hours you usually stream Link to your twitch!
i used to stream at http://www.twitch.tv/mes_tt after some time my account was suspended without warning. I was able to get the suspension removed but told not to stream UO. I did contact twitch about it this year to see if anything changed, this was their response: As best I can tell you can do it until EA/mythic or whomever owns UO reports your channel. I do think there is low visibility but it's always possible.
Shandril Avatar_of_Sosaria Casual PvE Hours we cannot say, as things change for us, but very regular, pretty much every day. http://www.twitch.tv/avatar_of_sosaria Dakota and Shaylie.
That is such a classic EA move. Completely blinded by greed without thinking about the consequences. Employee: "Hey boss, there's this new internet phenomenon where people like to watch each other play video games. It's really taking off, other companies are reporting that it is really boosting interest in their games, pulling more players in." Boss: "Wait, wait, wait. People are getting to see what's going on in our game without paying!? GET OUR LAWYERS DOWN HERE."
Sorry but technically UO:R and all "Free shards" are illegal unless the shard owners have received written permission from EA to run the shard. By streaming you are in fact drawing more attention to the free shard which is good and bad. Yes it brings in more people, but in the eye's of EA it also takes people away from their shards. The official shards. Which can result in being legally shut down. The first incident of many was Lineage 2 and NCSoft. Which a very popular private server was actually shut down permanently and the owners jailed for running a emulated / private server for the public by the FBI. Since then it has continued with legal warning's mostly. Which shard / server owners mostly comply with and quickly shut down before any legal action is taken. So before you go and cry about your live streaming accounts. Know that you are in fact by playing here also are doing something wrong, and if EA finds out can perma ban you from playing on their shards / using their websites. IMO it's totally worth it still though, as this game is super fucking old. If there weren't any free shard nobody would be playing it. I was playing the official shards for many years until just recently and believe me. There is nobody there. If all the people playing free shards suddenly had to play to play, nobody would be around anymore and the game would be done.
That isn't accurate, Enziet. So long as the server is not charging a subscription fee and are not capitalizing, it is completely legal. EA has allowed these servers as long as the game has been around and at this point has given implied consent, so there is nothing illegal about playing or running a server in this way.
Implied means nothing. Read the tos u agree too when u download and install the game. There of course is an easy way to end this. Let's email ea and ask them is uo:r with of course a link is allowed to run and accept monetary gains as donations to run the shard. I am willing to ask of course. But I really enjoy playing on this shard. Lineage 2 extreme which was shutdown by the FBI was the exact same. They had no sub costs and accepted donations to help pay the bills. They did not have written consent from ncsoft to emulate their software. Again I do agree but if it wasn't for free shards uo would have died along time ago. I hope one day ea stops charging for server access.
Neither Sphere nor RunUO shards are using the original UO Code. They are only emulating the game how it used to be while using self written code. There were lawsuits against freeshards in the past, and they all lost pretty much because of this reason. (There were other points too, like the original release date and copy right laws back then, etc..) RunUO and Spere shards are completely legal, and so is streaming on them or providing videos on youtube.
^^ This on topic. My main point. Why would Twitch shut down people streaming UO on a private server ? Unless they were asked too then normally they don't shut people down. Of course the game is so old now adays I really wouldn't think it would matter. The player base is all die hard old timers now in their 30's and their kids. This game is not the theme park most gamers now adays are used to. They say they want a world where you can do whatever you want, totally "sandbox" but the game already exists. Oh well. Either way be it legal or not. I'm not willing to argue further with internet people. I'm too old for this ancient argument. I like the shard I hope it sticks around, but if it gets shut down I blame the live streamers (shakes old man cane)
