How do you talk to the NPC after you accept to take them somewhere. I didn't see where he said he wanted to go.
you can check your journal to see where he wanted to go and i believe what he will require of you to say to accept the contract or service of saving him
Saying 'I will take thee' allows them to follow you. Check your journal if you missed the destination. Hope that helps!
I know this is a year late but I think you can say "destination" to them and they will repeat where they need to go.
