    Hello All!

I am new to the Shard! I played Ultima Online from Pre-AoS until the end of UO:R. I endured Trammel for as long as I could before I gave up.

My name was Ewan Pentecost and Devil-kin on the Chesapeake Server. Hung out primarily in Pax Lair (in case there are any old friends here).

So my question is pretty simple. I need to make money. I want to build a mage, pvp, make a tamer, hunt idocs, make a treasure hunter, make a crafter, hunt more idocs, make more money, but all of this requires money.

SO I decided my first character would be a Provo-Dexxer since I don't really have any money to level Magery and the like. So far I am almost 6x GM (Anat/Healing/Music/Hiding/Fencing ... tactics is 70something and provo is still 50something)... but I don't know what to do once I am done macroing.

I have never really been forced to start over from Scratch as I had friends in the old days that stuck with me and we all worked together to supply eachother what we needed. So where do I begin? Where can I go with this template and actually make some cash?

If anyone can help me out with some pointers on how to use this Template effectively, where, and why - I would be forever grateful!!

I started 2 months ago. I made a dexxer and smashed ratmen in rat valley to start.

Once you have a mage you can cast blade spirits on ice ogre lords for good money as a newb. Make sure you have magic reflect on and a recall macro to escape the pks, but it's pretty easy farming.

Someone who plays a peace/dexxer will have better advice on what to farm with that. Make sure you hit up the resist parties when they occur, you can get gm resist for free in several hours just sitting there.

Yeah, I don't have resist or magery on him the Provo/Dexxer. I leveled Hiding instead just because it doesn't cost anything (was before I knew anything about Resist-parties... but I still feel Hiding may save me more often than not). I went ahead and GM'd resist on my up and coming Mage. Macroing him as well, but not intending to use him until I can get Magery leveled up!

In my experience I'd recommend Peacemaking instead of Provoke to start. You can pretty much peace everything you see in front of you with a GM instrument and kill it with ease. I managed to peace-kill stuff in Occlo (pirates, liches, executioner, smaug, etc.) and gathered 192k for my first house while still Young. It's doable.

Another way is to gather cotton, make cloth and sell to players. There are lots of cotton spawn in Occlo to do that.

Binx, a provo dexxer is a great place to start making the gold (it's the same thing I did).

I would recommend putting a little magery on him. In order to effectively escaping from other players trying to steal your gold (once they've killed you), you need to be able to recall out quickly. My template was something like the following:

    Swords - 100
    Tactics - 100
    Anatomy - 100
    Healing - 100
    Music - 100
    Provo - 100
    Lumberjacking - 70
    Magery - 30

Replace swords with fencing, and lumberjacking with hiding, and you're set.

Ogre Lords, Lich Lords anything that spawns in 2 or 3.... if you buy yourself a decent slayer weapon and a slayer instrument, you can run through mobs pretty quick.

I personally, think provo is better than peacemaking, particularly for tougher monsters. Peacemaking breaks and you end up dead in the middle of a bunch of monsters, whereas provo is slightly harder to setup, but you don't need to worry about anything more than an errant hit.

Thanks for the advice, von Stuben!

I guess I will really be forced to drop Hiding down for Magery. Sucks because it's almost GM'd but meh. I've read that Recall Scrolls aren't 100% with the Runebook and that could lead to some trouble when the PK's come to get my shinies.

Where would you recommend finding a good Ogre Lord spawn? I can't quite remember. I remember there was a Lich lord spawn in a room in Deceit(??) I think... but I also seem to remember getting rocked by PKs there on the regular. Will have to check out some different places. Also, does anyone know where I can buy Runebooks that might have these places marked to keep in the bank until I get a house?

    wylwrk is right-ish..... imo.

Dexxer/bard -> Tamer/mage -> whatever you want. Tamers are essentially free and only take a few day of macro.

Yeah, my plan is to keep the bard and make a tamer. That way I can have two different play styles for farming. I definitely want a Tamer, but gotta make some money.

I am home and on IRC, are you on, Von?

If you need a loaner house I can co-own you to a small house I have near Yew Gate. You can use it for free for as long as you need.

I also played on Chessy back in the day and hung around Aryslan, i think the name was, Pax also rings a bell.

    Welcome Binx

Another good way to make gold is LJ. Create a separate char as a LJ and chop your ass off for a few days/couple weeks. Eventually you'll pull
oak board that sell well here and for good gold. I could co own you to a small near a nice tree'd area I use for LJ'n if you want. There is
some low end spawn[easy stuff], but nothing big.

Heretic's advise is excellent as well as the other's that have posted here.
