Hey, just a heads up to those who don't seem to comprehend English. I stated it was an idea for well down the road. I wanted to kick off the flow of ideas on it now because I know this thread will exist at some point. Perhaps you missed the post earlier about someone having nearly all 15 slots built, and practically everything they want to accomplish in UOR main, already done. This is a good long term game but Razor automation has made it far too easy to peak out. The idea flow here is to discuss possibilities for the future of the community here.

I've always wanted to play an SP shard, but not in the builds that I've seen out there. If there is ever to be an SP shard that I truly love, it would be UOR:SP.
Posting to say it's ridic discussing ideas for something suggested for a year or more down the road, is far more 'ridic' than talking about how good an SP variant of UOR could be.
History Perfected could have another avenue of perfection. What were the major failings of SP? What could we do better here? I really like the concept of requiring x amount of skill/time or whatever in UOR main to even have access to UOR:SP. Like playing Hardcore mode in Diablo where you have to beat the game first to get access. Perhaps even take it a step further and remove Resurrection! Now that's ridic!!

Pvp hasn't been made right if the Tater types are right, the bod reward high ends haven't been obtained, and probably never will, esp if a friggen mask dye goes for 4 mil, the monster boss statues are nearly impossible to get, from what I can figure out you'd have to kill 160k harpies to get 400 gams, and that wouldn't even make a drop 100% certain. No one wants to kill 1k harpies, much less over 100k for a statue. The plat system rewards from what I understand will be expanded, no one has a good set of those. The server births are now locked up, which sucks, but it happens. The land is still pretty much open. The player base is still pretty low. Stealing hasn't been fixed, and other bugs. All of the rare spawns haven't been found, I could go on and on.

Sounds like a lot of you are addicted to the char grind. Which is horrible, combined with the horrible drop rates on stuff, everything from plat to good bods, even a year from now that stuff isn't going to be prevalent. It's almost been a year and that stuff is still close to non existent. Grinding skills is part of UO unfortunately, but spending so much time and effort on bods, amibs, boss statue drops, plat collecting, and etc is pure trammel. I'm not knocking it, I like the items as much as the next guy, but I do think they should be more obtainable. Playing forever to get that stuff reminds me of other non UO type games. So what exactly are you wanting from a SP shard, one or two chars that takes as long as 15 to finish here, and even worse drop rates? If you want to grind chars so bad, delete your old ones and start over. If I was Tela and Zeke and I put so much work into a server just to have people tell me to make another one before a year was out, I'd tell them to gtfo. Not knocking the sp idea in it's entirety, but if you have all of the rares, all of the good house spots, all of your chars finished and etc, and are tired of it, let it go so other players who actually are still actively playing and want that stuff can have it, not keep it locked down forever while you hop to a new server. You must have won UOR already, so move on :p Like I said, UOR hasn't been perfected just yet, though what they've done is amazing, but I'd prefer they put their efforts and attention into this server, not another one.

The rare and arguably most desireable Special Mask Dye sold for 2m, not 4m.

It's not a lot of money to anyone who's been here a year (Tater).

    Orly?

Thou shalt not derail the epic UO:R:SP thread!

    *smites*

I refrain from posting my honest opinion on this matter b/c it is too biased to not be frothing fanboi-ism. A lot of good points brought up for both sides, though. Some day, perhaps, there will be an SP inspired/clone server with a competent & dedicated staff.

You guys are definitely not cut out for Siege Perilous. You want it for all the wrong reasons.

I want it for the one character restriction. The lack of stat-loss is pretty much necessary given that limitation but I also like reds being allowed in town. I like the greater economic challenge, the lack of recall, and the little things that promote group play, player justice and a sense of realism.

Now tell us what you liked.

I would fiddle around, but I wouldn't spend much time there, maybe a beggar.

Horrible idea. It would work great to split population.

Might be something for WELL down the road when, and IF the server hits 2k users or so (which I doubt will ever happen, but I can hope). I don't think it would be wise to split the population with less than that.

Especially the one-character restriction, extra-especially if the Siege shard has balls and restricts to one per IP. Then you REALLY need to make a decision about who you are in-game, and what you do. If you're a blacksmith, you might get super rich and popular, but you'll never get to venture into dungeons and see who's in there. If you're a bard, you may be able to venture deep into dungeons and tackle the biggest monsters, but you'll never really be able to compete in player versus player combat. If you're a PK, you're always vulnerable and a target, even if you want to join a fun monster crawl or champ spawn run.

I love nothing more than having 15 distinct characters on these shards, and building them all up and enjoying their many prospective playstyles. But even given all that, I still find the allure of the one-character Siege system to be very strong.

And yes, to what Pirul says. You can't split a shard like that. Especially one with so much custom content like this, things like level 6 tmaps, bosses, etc. We get to experience those, and excel at them, because we have multiple accounts with many characters who are built to excel at particular challenges like that. For a Siege shard, vanilla has more than enough, IMO, to keep one's interest.

If you're going to do a Siege shard, I think for it to succeed it has to have the full and absolute commitment from the players from the start, and there has to be no other viable outlet for their attention.

I'm pretty sure I made that clear and reiterated it later in the thread. This would be a long ways down the road and with limitations. I honestly don't think there are/will be 2000 actual classic UO players unless there's some sort of revival in the gaming world. It's just food for thought.

I doubt many would go full time and the split wouldn't even be close to %50 of the population. At least not that many that take it seriously.

    +1 on Godric's post.

If you want more playing and more action then allow murderers in towns. They're the ones who will provide the server with action.

UOR is not a Siege shard, sorry :(

Mmm... no thanks. I pay a lot of tax money to have guards on duty and capable of teleporting through time and space to one-shit villains.

No, they're the ones who provide the server with grief and suffering outside of guarded zones, as is appropriate for a Feluccian shard. Should we remove statloss too while murders are allowed in towns? Hell, why even change the hues, let's all just kill each other with impunity and wherever we see fit.

If you want more action, go out and make it. The shard is young, people macro for a long time to get 'ready'. Not everyone grinds for one 7x stunmage to try and rule the shard with in the first month here. Things are picking up and if you'd get involved with the community you'd have an easier time finding some fun.

Well said. I am really happy with the server, and I think it's going to be picking up soon. Personally, I'm almost in a position to start building up a pvp character because my pvm money makers are finished and producing funds.
