There are many methods to do this and they all follow 4 basic steps: Get the screenshot Crop out irrelevant stuff and save the edited shot Upload the shot Make a forum post 1a. Getting the shot via Windows This method works in most programs, not just UO, so it's helpful if you need to have a screenshot of Razor or UO Automap. Line up the shot and arrange any windows that you want included. Hit the "Prt Scrn" button on your keyboard (Nothing will happen but the shot is now copied to your clipboard.) Open up your image editor (see below for more info on editors) Hit "Ctrl V" to paste the screenshot Save it to your computer 1b. Getting the shot via Razor This method can capture just the UO window (and UO Automap if it's embedded). Line up the shot In Razor go to the Screenshot tab and click the "Take Screen Shot Now" button (You can also asign a hotkey to this action.) The shot is automatically saved to your computer (Default location is %appdata%\Roaming\Razor\Screnshots\) 2. Cropping and editing the shot There are many image editors availble. Windows has a very basic one built in called Paint. For a bit more functionality try Picasa. More advanced users go with Gimp (free) or Photoshop (pricey). Using Paint to crop: Open the shot in Paint Select the crop tool and draw a box around the area you want to keep Select the crop tool again Save the image to your computer (use jpg, gif or png) Using Paint to edit: Open the shot in Paint Click the rectangle tool Click outline and select "no outline" Click fill and select "solid color" Click "Color 2" and click a color you want to use draw a box around the part you want to edit out Save the image to your computer (use jpg, gif or png) A note on file types: Only jpg, gif and png are usable on the forums. Jpg is good for showing colors while creating a compact file but it blurs text. Gif keeps text legible and creates a compact file but it simplifies colors. Png keeps text legible and can accurately reproduce colors (deping on settings) but produces a larger file than jpg or gif. When in doubt, just use jpg. 3. Upload the shot While there is a built-in attachment feature in these forums, it displays images awkwardly and only at the bottom of your post. A better alternative is to use one of the many free image hosts. Some popular hosts are Flickr, Photobucket and Imageshack. My favorite is Imgur. Imgur lets you post pics without creating an account and simplifies copy/pasting the necessary code to the forums. If you want more control over your images (to delete, organize or modify them), then you can create an account. Example using Imgur Go to Imgur. Click the "Computer" button. Select the shot on your computer. Click "Start Upload". On the right hand side click the paper icon under "BB Code". This will copy the needed link to your clipboard. 4. Make a forum post Create a new post on the forums. Insert the code you copied above into the post. Preview the post and sumbit.
To simplify the capture and host parts, try Jing (thanks Liberation). It stays on the screen and lets you select where you want to capture. It will then host the image on their servers. All for free. Be aware that your Jing user name is exposed to anyone.
