My ping doubled to an average of 69 ms, but the game's still playable. And plus, that my lucky number, so I really shouldn't complain.
yeah the Asia based folks will probably have no complaints I'm just sad I slept through server wars...
- Ping standing around: ~220ms average.(+70ms) - Ping running: ~400ms. (+200ms) - Plus, frequent lag spikes of +200-300ms when running the ping tests (due to packet loss?). I had alot 600ms pings, when testing. I am not really complaining here, just listing my results, so that people know about the changes for Europeans (Germany based players) and compare it with their results. I don't expect Staff to optimize my game experience and I am not sour about this. There wasn't much choice as I get it. It's definitely less fun to run around right now. PvP was barely doable with 150ms in my opinion, but now even PvM is becoming slightly annoying. @Lightshade: Good for you, when you still enjoyed 333ms ping in PvP. But some people want to be competititve; espescially in PvP. It's the whole idea behind PvP in my opinion. Disadvantages like these are inacceptable for me, when I go full force into competitive mode (which is the reason, why I never really started PvPing here).
I have very similar results from northern Europe. Using the the -ping function in game, I am averaging ~250ms (+100ms) while standing still. Moving, it jumps to ~300-400ms with frequent peaks of over 500ms. As much as I would like to be able to summon the strength of character to take that as just an added challenge for PvP, I can't either. It's still fine for doing BODs though. Let's hope it will still settle a bit in the coming days as Chris suggested.
min avg ping I was able to get while running was around 500 ms. Server move can`t be the only reason tho.
My ping went from avg 50 to 120 when standing still and almost 200 while running. So my ping almost quadrupled while doing anything. edit: muricah, northeast sector
Centeral Eastern Florida Ping statistics for 199.59.161.210: Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 74ms, Maximum = 120ms, Average = 78ms Works for me.
@BlackEye : I was competitive in PvP on that server. I always played blues and they'd have 50-100 counts on them from killing noto's, without going red, in addition to all the kills on reds/greys. The only reason I don't PvP a lot on this server is because a neuro-muscular disease has been robbing me of my twitch reflexes and keyboard finesse. I know these high pings seem like the end of the road to some, i'm just offering a different perspective as I have absolutely lived it and did just fine. In general, the overwhelming majority of what this game has to offer is not ruined by a high ping and that has always been one of the great things about Ultima Online. Do you have to change the way you play? Absolutely. Do you have to look for other things to do in-game in some instances? Absolutely. Lots of Dragons will probably get you killed a lot on a high ping with the DELAYED damages, for example. Do you have to start anticipating more and reacting less? Absolutely. Do you still have a bazillion ways to enjoy UO at your disposal? Absolutely. At the end of the day, folks, this was a change because of Corporate Mergers/Purchases that were out of @Chris 's control. Provide information, void of additional comments that help absolutely nothing, so the staff can make an informed decision. The amount of hate i've seen from so many players is just pathetic and is helping no one.
Pingpocalypse is upon us!!! But seriously, some of us have played this game on dial up back in the day when just going to brit bank would lag you for a good 15 minutes lol. It will be okay....
RIP europe, it went from smooth enough for me to annoyingly laggy. 140ms to 235ms standing still, a lot worse running.
Solid and steady at these numbers with no lag spikes or differences while running/PvP'ing. I did some testing while PvP'ing in the middle of heavy spawn to see if I could recreate that lag while running issue that people mentioned. I was unable to recreate it. Everything was steady on my end, albeit double my normal ping from the previous server host. I could not really discern any noticeable difference from the previous server host. Edit: I know on the previous server, I would sometimes get a freeze of 1-2 seconds. I have yet to see it on this server, though. It might just be good luck on my part so far that I haven't ran into one. I wonder if that's a hop in the routing that's causing that issue. If there's a common denominator with a hop causing those large lag spikes, that is something that we can definitely look into.
No kidding!! I remember the old 56k voice modem dial-up days. I would get dropped sometimes and never see the dude that did it until I was dead. That and when Lich Lords would drop explosions 2 or 3 in a row.... lagged out, dead. Ah, the "good old days"..... heh. Also, am I the only one who doesn't know how to do a ping test in game?
OK I finally dusted off my old command line knowledge and managed to ping ... average of 175 from Japan. Unfortunately I never pinged BEFORE the move but I have a feeling it's either about the same or faster. If it IS faster, then I can at least assure you unlucky folks that it IS playable, if that's any consolation...
I tried from NC doing just a straight ping to the login, not in-game, and got 60ms. Can anyone tell me the in-game commands to ping the server? I'd like to see if there is a noticeable difference...
