So when I started on this shard i made a Sword and parry warrior to pvm/farm gold. recently i took an interest in dueling and switched my toon to a kryss parry dexx monkey, then a war axe and parry duelist and finally to a Q staff duelist.

I still enjoy Pvm but i decided to give myself an edge againts monsters by taking up music and peacemaking. I plan on useing two handed weapons for there is no need to block a creature who wont be attacking me and most duelist use spears/Q-staffs with success.

My question is what weapon skill and weapon would be best suited for me to use with pvm and dueling? not including archery

Macing is generally the best/easiest big damager and quite suited for duelling as it saps stamina. Pack a warhammer so you can get Crushing Blows and a quarter staff for the best damage over time.

That said, I still love my Lumberjacker (swordsman) even though the damage over time feels too close to a Crushing Blow from a warhammer

Raising Lumberjacking is a pain in le butte but it is VERY profitable.

Getting my Swordsman from 50.0 to GM Lumberjack left me with around 80k boards. You can usually sell them for 3-4gp resulting in at least 240k gp.
Or you can GM Carpentry off the boards you make ...

If you have a good macro, you can GM within 15-16 hours of attended macroing - including trips to the bank to store the boards. In case you decide to drop the boards and just do it for the skill gain it might be a lot quicker since you can skip cutting the logs into boards and stashing them in your packie.

Lumberjacking can be raised completely inside guard zones and I never had to deal with griefers. Boards are too heavy to be stolen so it's time consuming but very little risk involved.

I might do a guide on Lumberjacking one day - focusing on the skill development rather than the combat part. Best way to get your starter gold if you ask me - made more than 150k boards with my newbie hatchet so far and it's still good as new.

Hopefully this, along with fishing poles never breaking, gets fixed eventually.

OH NO that's not era accurate. Uses for fishing poles were introduced with AOS or later I'm pretty sure.
It doesn't even make sense for fishing poles ...

And just because you can collect resources with it doesn't mean it has to break.
Think of cotton that doesn't even need tools for collecting.

And the hatchet will break if you use it in battle - just like any other weapon.

How does it not makes sense to break? Things that get 'used' should have 'wear and tear', end of story. There is nothing illogical about things that you use, especially to gather resources or other, breaking over time.

You know many lumberjackers who have been using the same axe their whole lives? I don't know a single fisherman still fishing with his first pole (granted, the life expectency in RL is quite a bit longer, but this is a game where 2 RL hours = 1 game day).

Also, in case you missed it, era-accuracy has nothing to do with perfection. ;)

yeah but Blaze, how many lumberjackers do you know IRL who had their axe crafted by MaMa AzzLicKer, Grandmaster Blacksmith? Apples and oranges.

The aim of this shard is not era accuracy but game/era/experience/history perfecting. Era accuracy takes a back seat.

All tools go through wear and tear. Fishing lines are the first thing to go on fishing poles. With excessive and or drunk use you can break the rod itself or any one of its many parts. Axes get dull and break, same with shovels and pickaxes. It makes complete sense for tools to wear with time.

So how does breaking in battle make sense but breaking from hitting rocks or trees does not?

Test center has a book you can get at WBB that logs DOT and you can complete that test at any skill level you wish. I did a lot of 1h maces and they were all very close in dmg, except the club I didn't get to test.

Club is not worth testing, it's well behind. I mean, it has the same swing speed as the War Axe, but does less damage, so you know it's not ideal.

Between Spear and Quarterstaff, the Spear is a bit better for damage over time against an unarmored opponent. Against an armored opponent, the gap widens and the Spear gets even better.
