Lord Soth's sacrifice bought Baerron Jael time (see here: The Battle of Honesty Shrine). The time was well-received for the Third seal binding his master was particularly difficult to break, particularly due to some irate dark elves from some land the daemon did not recognize.

But alas, he had done it. Lord Soth's death would be for nothing, and the seeds of corruption have spread their roots deeply at the Shrine of Compassion.

With how long it took to break this seal, the daemon once more found himself in a race against time. The Fourth seal needed to be broken, and to ensure that he could work uninterrupted he would need help, and since Lord Soth was no more... the daemon found himself alone.

A rustling nearby caught his attention. His temples throbbed and eyes ached. A foul stench of garbage and waste filled the air. The hammering and drilling sounds echoed across the Compassion desert from behind the wooden palisades to the west. Orcs.

Baerron Jael was quite aware of orcs as a species, but paid them little regard in this world. But no doubt the orcs would not care much for the intrusion of humans on their lands, and it would probably take little to convince them to take up arms against them. The nearby orcs were quick and already began extending their palisades to encompass the shrine itself.

The daemon sniffed the air and followed a harsh stench north. Across a small bridge, the daemon found himself at another orc encampment. A small, grotesque, and stunted orc greeted him.

Baerron Jael left a message with the orc servant:

@Vishakt - the humans are coming, and in great number. Will you and your ilk rise up against them?

    It was a lousy day.

Another quiet moon, the old orc thought to himself with a shake of his head. Vishakt sat in a throne in the orc fort gripping his spear and looking out into the distance. Once again finding himself in a moment of reflection, thinking of the past. Battles fought, glory earned, the sounds of screaming men and dying horses. He still went out hunting from time to time but even that seemed a chore.

Orcs are fickle creatures. They tend to go where the excitement is. Once that was here. Once the humans of this land feared to travel the land without magical means. Doing so would have held a high chance of running into an orc raiding party. At present that is not the case. At this time orcish victories are won elsewhere. Vishakt and his brothers remain here however, keeping the torches lit...and waiting...

Waiting for what...they do not know.

On an day just like any other day.... what they were waiting for finally arrived.

the humans are coming, and in great number. Will you and your ilk rise up against them?

Was Vishakt imagining that? He did not think so. Vishakt felt a surge of energy. Belok....the orcish God of Death. Surely that was Belok. No, that was an ignorant guess. In his excitement the orc lord was not thinking straight. It was in the language spoken by the humans. A servant then. It must be one of his servants. Tarshakt had spoken often of the gods casting them aside. Vishakt no longer believed that this was the case. The orc Goth (lord) felt years younger. The grip on his spear tightened. He continued to stare off in the distance but now with a new look in his eyes.

The sound of a screaming human woman hitting the floor snapped him out of it. He returned inside to address the others.

The drums of war are once again beating. Orcish blood is growing hot. Vishakt must make preparations. He must wake the others. The humans are coming. They must be ready. Blood will flow.

Come to us humans....we are waiting. With that thought the old orc flashes a rare smile.

    It is a good day.

I cannot help but wonder if this is related to what Cero has discovered...

I know not if it will serve to aid in cleansing the Shrine of Compassion, but if a heart of compassion is required to bring an end to this corruption, I will part with one even though it is dear to me beyond gold or platinum.

I offer this gift in hopes that it might stem the tide of evil before it engulfs the Shrine of Justice and upsets the balance of life in Yew Forest.

I have personally felt the deadly sting of Baerron Jael's wrath and will do all within my power to save others from such suffering. Understand, I do not seek mere petty revenge against this foul being, but I would see Justice served for the good of all.

Dear Antos, will you be joining us on our venture this weekend to cleanse the Shrine of Compassion? Any aid you can muster will be most appreciated and welcome!

And I thank you very kindly for the generous offer of the heart of compassion. I know not if it would play a pivotal role in our endeavors, but I shall task a scribe to look into the matter!

    - SKAHUN DU WAT JAT?

Vishakt had just woken up suddenly as a series of thoughts entered his sleeping mind. The old orc was trying to process what had just occurred and wasn't fairing too well. It seemed clear though. He had a vision of humans fighting in a snow covered land...dying by the score but ultimately victorious. More importantly he had seen a gate open and a bunch of those stupid floating lights poor out of them. Belok, he hated those lights.

The vision was vivid. It happened. His only thought was the servant of Belok was communicating with him again...wanting him to take care of the wisps before they caused more trouble. If he did this...the humans would come to the orcs. They would walk right to their door ripe for the slaughter. He had even shown him a way to keep the foul lights under control. Like all things that cannot be trusted they had powerful magic to call upon.

But first: Breakfast. There was an old human arm buried under the straw he slept on and he gnawed on that for a while and considered things. He stared at the wall for a while before realizing there was nothing to consider. There were no options here.

Vishakt wandered the woods. It didn't take long to find what he wasa seeking. The stupid lights were always about.

Sliding a bag over the glowing creature was the easy part. Keeping it in there was not as easy.

Nonetheless the vision had instructed him creature was brought to the fort and so it was done.

    and then another....

and then another.... which was all that the orc lord was instructed to get. Then the final piece of the puzzle. Vishakt had found three gifts in the room with him that morning when he woke up. Well, three useless pieces of human junk. If the vision was correct however...things were not exactly as they appeared.

Now it was just a matter of waiting a bit. Vish really hates waiting...
