I know I'm new to the forum but I've been playing on this shard a couple of months and been meaning to ask but am now just getting around to asking. Is there a specific reason NPC mercenaries and Warriors were left out? I remember buying the Renaissance ROM back around 2000-2001 and I distinctly remember there being NPC warriors in the arena in Jhelom and NPC mercenaries outside of cities like Britian.

I thought it was one of the more fun aspects of the game back then because it benefited new players to hire a guard to travel with and the arena offered skill gains with sparring.

    Right now in Jhelom:

These sparring NPC were a lot more useful on OSI when we were limited to a single account. In today's UO most people have figured out how to maximize their gains by working against the correct target. For instance, matching the melee skill to max out melee gains and zeroing melee skill to max out tactics gains.

I'm still of the opinion that there should be more of these folks lingering in taverns and towns. Including the mages.
They should only take one control slot, allowing you to have up to 8 of them as followers for hire.

I'm inclined to agree with blaise. Seems reasonable to have a large party of mercenaries. Especially if that's the way it was originally, I can't remember how many you could hire originally but at the same time it offers opportunities for newbies to get a party started early in their experience. Let's be honest, there's a lot of good people playing on this shard but again there aren't many people that are going to hang with you for long periods of time on a monster hunt when you're starting out to say kill lizardmen. Hey, they might even feel a little empowered and try to take down an elemental.

I just think it brings even more diversity to the game.

I agree with Reaper on this one... I do miss all the Paladins hanging around Trinsic and out of Delucca. They went with the history of Trinsic...And I agree, not every new player wants to have taming skill, to tame bears to take out adventuring with them. Perhaps not eight slots, but certainly a couple would be nice.

    Thanks again all

I miss this too. there are starving npc's out there and players with gold to burn. Let's get these groups together and solve sosarian hunger.

Also can we have the "patrol" command?
