Hey gents! Dusted off the dust from a long UO hiatus and have been playing a couple other free shards, but once I logged in here immediately felt at home. Great population base, awesome people I've been bumping into, and a lively userbase and forum. And finally someone to PK me! I was wondering if there are any players here who do "banking" type services. Used to run one of these on a previous shard where new players could request an amount at a fixed-interest loan. Was a fun way to RP a banker and I about broke even (as some people disappeared). Mostly, it was a great way to help new players get on their feet, which is always a good way to keep them around and help the long-term health of the shard. Does anyone do something similar here at UOR? Would be a customer... and if not, would be up for starting something similar once I get established. As it is, grinding reg macro money in the dungeon has taken its toll on my sanity .
I ran a similar service on another shard. I think you will run into a problem here with vets making many "new players" to get loans they wont pay back, or legitimate new players taking out a loan and then quitting the server. You cannot hedge against this with such a low number of participants. What I did was use collateral, usually a house. They transfer to me, I will coown all their people, and then never set foot inside. When it's paid back I transfer back, or, in only 1 case, take the house. I also did it with items and anything else of value. So was more a service for vets since I had lots of money hanging around and I dont buy anything except for supplies and such. New players aren't going to be able to offer you something. How would you do it?
pawn shop item value > loan I just don't think there's much of a market here for that sort of thing though.
That was a similar problem I ran into and - let's be real - it's not a profitable enterprise. Is a fun way to gold sink yourself though. Now that I'm on the other side of the coin (a complete newb) and desperately need regs to get a fisher army going, I really wish there was a similar service available. Starting as a total newb is half the fun though...
You could be a slum lord, rent a house till they pay it off then transfer it to them when they do... And if not, evict them after a month of inactivity or something haha

Yeps, agreed. I'll give advice and write guides all day long, but not a penny leaves the Hasselhoff vault for newb charity. Counterproductive to fun!
