Derfel was patrolling the notorious Skara-Yew road. Day-to-day business of a templar; keep the road safe, get identity of travellers, kill monsters, check if brigands are up to something... He paid a visit to Britannian Guard Corps' western commander office, which is also the northernmost point of his daily patrol. There he learned that orcs have tunnel system below the Serpent Spine Mountains and they are using drilling machines to expand these caves. Guard Commander asked him to find and destroy these drilling machines. He accepted the quest, it would be terrible if orcs gained more power in the area. The road must be kept safe! --- After an annoying encounter with brigands he returned to Skara, resupplied and set off for the journey. The entrance of the orc lair was in Rat Valley, just east of Skara-Yew road. He hunted a few ratmen and found the entrance of the Orc Lair. Derfel was welcomed by a few scouts, but he quickly got rid of them and found the gate of an underground fortress. It was surprising to him. He fought his way all along the fortress they created underground. It was easy to kill scouts and fighters but Derfel quickly learned to hate glowing orcs who can cast spells. There were also bomber orcs about whom he doesn't even want to talk about. Of course he wasn't just slaying orcs, but also searching for the drilling machines and trying to understand daily lives of these wretched creatures. Over time, Derfel got exhausted. In an evil hour he lost his horse Dream, he was running out of supplies and despite seeing every single room he still haven't found drilling machines. Apparently the lair went down waay deeper. This floor of the lair was even more challenging. He ran out of potions and he had to change his sword. He was slaying orcs and looking every single corner to find the damn drilling machines. But there wasn't any... Derfel crawled through the rooms to find a clue about them. He was exhausted and disappointed now. May be Britannian Guards were wrong? May be there is no drilling machine. After all, who are the orcs to build and operate such a machine? Wait! It is! He has seen all the weird orc machinery and didn't even realize they wouldn't be able to make a real drill. But finally he has found and destroyed them. Time to report Britannian Guards! @Cero Edit: @Kizama and @Pekka
Excellent work Derfel, Squire of the Knights Templar! You have taken on a great mission and succeeded in your task, I pray it was not too difficult on your well being and that your fearless mount went down fighting beside you! Orcs are ever a plague on this land but I feel you have delt them a great blow. I will seek you out with reward in hand, and spread the word around the Corps that Derfel is a mighty Allie. I hope the Templars recognize your efforts here in protecting the lands and a promotion is in order! Knowing they house a great warrior like yourself is truly something to honor. - Cero, Captain and Emissary of the Guard
