i just got killed outside the door of the weaponsmith in Ocllo

I just put my character there and i hang out, when i came back i saw i am dead and the game message ask me to report someone as murderer.
he took my bulk order deed. fortunately nothing important.

i wonder how can he do that in the city? even if he casts poison field, it is still attacking me, wont the guard kill him?

Yes, a guard will likely kill the murderer. In the case of a poison field, or poison spell, or explosion pots, you'll still die - especially if the murderer keeps coming back to add more damage.

The guards are lazy as guards can get. If no one (player or NPC) calls them, they will not come and help you. Never go "afk" with items on you. If you have to train then use the bank to store the resources needed or get yourself a home.

ReZon have a nice "new player" housing thread if you cannot afford one yet. Good luck out there!

You can also spam whisper guards .. won't guarantee no town kill but it helps

There are some players that believe acclimating a new player to the harsh reality of the real Felucca environment (see: lawless) sooner than later, is a good thing. To take it even further, some people also believe those pushed to quit after such altercations are no loss while those that chin up and stick it out are the sort of stock we need here.

    It's a slippery slope.

Granted, no player should be expected to tolerate behavior(s) from an obvious sociopath who's only intent is to cause grief.

While I don't suggest spending your days wracked with paranoia, one should still take precautions regardless of how safe one feels the situation is.... even in your own home. Granted, you didn't realize you could be killed in town but now you know.

Consider it a fine lesson via Humility.

It's far from 100% safe but an "idling in guardzone" hotkey that loops checks for HP loss or certain system messages then calls guards and heals if needed can be helpful. I still wouldn't park myself afk anywhere for long but it's useful for a quick answer the phone or something.

... an addition to the wise words above, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention nothing will get you targeted for city refuse collection faster than parking illegally (right in the way of a doorway, the road, etc), and especially running a "guards" looped macro.

Manners seem to go a long way. Park responsibly.

Hmm, I thought I was pretty clear on that. Some aren't... some are.

    Maybe give it another read?

As so many have said before, don't afk in town. If you must, recall to a safe place and hide. Work on your hide skill. It works wonders when your phone rings or your bisquits in the oven are ready. Its not so common to get killed in town but.. there is no dearth of pickpockets and thieves who can clean you out in the blink of an eye. Invest in a tailorshop cloak, keep it in your backpack, and cover your most valued possessions with it. The thief will need to steal the cloak before he/she can get to the goodies while you are checking your favorite vendor. Keep your backpack open and one eye on the cloak at all times and for crying outloud refrain from visiting vendors in the second floor and roof of marble or stone workshops. I've heard horror stories about those. If circumstances demand that you absolutely visit an upstairs vendor, take a total refresh potion with you so you can escape thieves blocking your path. Finally, if some unsavory character is tailing you while carrying valuable stuff and you can't recall, zig zag your way to the inn and logout. Just some useful strategies to keep sticky vermin fingers off your hard earned stuff. Good luck to ya ;)

The cloak won't really do much at all. Thief does not have to steal it first before getting what is under it.

I think the threat here wasn't so much afking in town, but afking with bods, around a shop where players collect bods. If you do this, you're probably going to get robbed or killed. Another helpful tip, if you work "guards" spam into your macro, you will likely be specifically killed as now you are an annoying to thieves that otherwise would have left you alone.

True but a thief can't steal if cloak completely covers what's under it. ie. a bod.

I use this tactic to slow down thieves, but it doesn't stop them. i usually have my gear and regs stored in a small red box with 5 of the exact same box stacked on top.

even with this, i have had some really good thieves describe to me in detail what is in my main box (meaning they were able to get passed all the other boxes).

Just wanted to put that out as a PSA. this method acts to slow them down only, it is not 100% guaranteed.
