NERF AFK FISHING AND BODDING

LETS NERF AFK FISHING AND AFK BODDING.

Once upon a time, there used to be players playing ultima online. that is no longer the case anymore.
What happened to all the players? Where did they go? Are they ok? did they have a permit?
All these questions and no one around to answer them...

The problem is that no one actually needs to do anything anymore. They sit on boats afk or they collect their bods every 6 hours then fill said bods afk.
So now the solution should be to simply nerf these avenues so players have to actually interact with one another and actually have to farm dungeons instead of just sitting on their boats 24/7 without any risk AT ALL. Heck I dont even care about the opportunity to pk them give them invul status if it helps them leave their boats.

Why would i farm bloods/ogres/liches/balrons/champion spawns when I could just sit on my boat and fish amibs and nets ALL DAY ERRYDAY and still make great money.

If the rewards from these amibs/bods were nerfed to a point where it just made way more sense for people to actually farm it would result in 2 things:
1) People actually playing the game
2) More player interaction

Another aspect people do not take into account is simply when new players start here they walk around they don't see anyone at all, they look everywhere just praying for another soul so they can relieve themselves of their need to socialize and they do not find anyone. So these players eventually leave or they get a negative view of the server.

Now I' am sure the bodders and the fishers of the world would certainly oppose any chances that would effect their income streams, but if people get to complain about idocing, buffing dexxers, and creating passports for UO, then I' am equally entitled to add my opinion to a complaint thread as well. They will argue "JUST CUZ IM ON A BOAT DOESNT MEAN IM NOT PLAYING" This is a false assumption because you are playing fishing simulator 2k17. (and yes im aware you still have to look for afk gumps and im sorry thats still afk)

I think it's mostly IRC and the real population count that makes the banks and towns look quiet. While I wholeheartedly believe boding, fishing, mining etc are the most boring things in UO and I would rather eat paint chips than do any of these things, forcing people to abandon certain play styles won't help anything. Everyone has different interests and since not many players are truly new to the game these things are an alternative to hacking up monsters. Also most of us are older than we were in 1998 so have become inherently boring as our minds and bodies begin to fail. Do you know anyone who is a fan of prog rock? These people have reached the end of music and are grasping at whatever nonsense might still be out there. This is perhaps the best comparable.

AFK or not, these creeps are not at the bank and in my face casting flamestrike on themselves all day so I have chosen to disregard. I am sympathetic to your cause but on principle must disagree. This game is best played doing what you enjoy and not paying much attention to what everyone else is doing (or not doing).

Whereas farming BoD's or Fishing is less likely to net a dirt nap than farming dungeons, I would hardly say that it is any more or less involved than farming in dungeons. Have you met <INSERT NAME> and his Triple-Box Razor Macro-Controlled Tamers? You are equating a perceived death risk with "playing real UO" and I simply don't agree with that. The path for finding and killing miners and fishers is the same as it has always been, minus the recent abysmal changes to Tracking. The notion that everyone should be in a dungeon or running laps around a bank is rather erroneous, also.

My father was PK'd on a road in the middle of nowhere the other day. People are out there. They are playing. They don't have to play the game like you think they have to play the game either.

The greatest thing about Ultima Online is that you do NOT have to play the game like everyone else.

I can't remember the last time (...years...) I fished or collected a BoD outside of a random one here or there and I see absolutely nothing wrong here with the current setup. You seem to want PvP/Interaction on your terms and your schedule. The instant gratification you are looking for is a pipe dream and certainly is not the result of something being too easy elsewheres.

This map is to big for the player base. If you want to take UO:R into a new era, you would need to change the map. This would be like a reset button to the shard. You would have a new land rush and new adventures trying to figure out the world. I can stroll through the forums and get years and years worth of other peoples work. Like the geological survey or the rares guide. All these things take away from what you call playing. It is SUPER easy to AFK things here because the players have made it that way. UO will never be what some of us might think it should be. That time has passed, enjoy this game for what it is worth.

No my point is I can at least interact with a player who has a triple box macro running in despise and infact I do on occasion say whats up to them but the two are not comparable one involves playing and the other involves watching Netflix while the macro runs while you are basically in an ocean trammel. I'm not arguing that it should be removed I'm arguing that the incentives should be reduced or in other words hit it em with the nerf hammer.

Sounds like you should be pirating...make the big blue ocean trammel less trammel.

Reasons to farm bloods/ogres/liches/balrons/champion spawns:
1. You make significantly more gold per hour.
2. You get a chance to see big bad pks and sick your pets on them.
3. Arguably more engaging gameplay, if not only because of the chance at being pkd.
4. Slayer drops

OOOKKAAAYYY......first of all ,there are new "NEW players" here on the server. ive met them.....this from above.....(since not many players are truly new to the game), and something about 1998......hello my kids were your ages...my kids didn't play this game, i never knew anything about the game except for commercials that i engorged, If it weren't for my ex bf five years ago introducing me first time ever to this game, last i played anything was pacman at the arcade. Im learning stuff everyday here and sometimes id wish it would slow down so i can figure it out. If it weren't for the "old timers" from 1998 learning would be much harder.

AND some of you have come from the shard we do not mention......if you dont like the game style...........

I think you are vastly overestimating the income from fishing when compared to the time it takes to get that income. Not sure how you want It nerfed but dungeon crawling has a much higher income rate than fishing. You don't go fishing to get rich, you do it because it's relaxing and you can still make SOMETHING.

The only time fishing is super profitable is during tournaments and the risk of getting pked are much higher during that time.

@Cherie I was mostly not being serious but my point was we can't expect long time players to want to farm monsters all the time and the other activities serve their purposes. I also have new player friends but the vast majority of UO players in 2017 are people that have returned to the game. I think @Larloch is on point. The UO experience has really changed over the years and we need to make the most of it. We find things to nit pick mostly because there are no secrets anymore and this brings positives and negatives. All of that said, I wish I were playing UO for the first time. That was the most magical and immersive gaming experience I've ever had and it will never happen again.

Back to topic, I'm all for AFK nerfs but they are probably not easy to implement and I think in many cases our efforts are better spent on other battles.

I would also like to meet who you know that's AFK fishing. Yes you can watch TV while you fish, but you can watch TV while you tame, too. Macros let you toss the pole, but you still have to fight monsters, and answer AFK gumps, which sometimes pop up WHILE YOU'RE FIGHTING MONSTERS. Between that and your oddly high assumption of income, I'm starting to think you should learn more about fishing before you start trying to screw over those of us who do it.

(1) It's impossible to AFK fish

(2) You don't make that much fishing. Like seriously, you don't.

The most income from fishing (other than tournaments) comes from tossing nets, and if you're doing that correctly, then there is no escape if something goes wrong. At least in a dungeon, you can run away or hide. If your boat is surrounded by monsters, you can't sail away, and you can't run anywhere. The monsters are trying to melee you and shoot spells at you so they'll break your concentration when you try to recall.

Fishing's not the AFK get-rich-quick scheme you think it is. IDK anything about bodding, so I can't speak to that, but leave fishing alone. If you're trying to even things out, then risk vs reward vs time, it's pretty even with dungeon crawling. If you're just trying to get rid of fishing altogether because you don't like the idea of somebody spending 8 hours on a boat to make a couple hundred k, then get over yourself.

As a community, we should agree to play this game in only one style so that no one has anything different than anyone else. Sandbox be damned, homogeneity FTW.

Hell I watch TV while I stealth around looking for people to kill. I mean, interact with.

I have only fished once for a tournament and without the television I'm not sure I could've done it long enough to catch a big fish or two. Of course I was only on a single fisherman.
