Sorry to be posting with another question. Typical new kid on the block huh? I've looked through a lot of build posts here and haven't seen or may well have missed my specific question. For a possible mage build I'm thinking Magery Resist Eval Int Meditation Music Provo and then the dilemma. Inscription vs a weapon skill. Without tactics a weapon wouldn't be that useful but to not have one at all seems problematic. If I were to go with a weapon it would be to leverage the special attack from the weapon class. And here I'm confused. Mace to me is concussion which is stamina drain, but here doesn't it stun? Fencing here does paralyzing blow which is a stun. And is sword's extra concussion of use here as so far to me it looks like there are less dex based characters running around? If I've read and retained the reading correctly damage here is insta hit and the the Haly cycling technique doesn't work. With a low dex character such as this would be I can still see a benefit to having a weapon for one of these special melee attack chances. I'm thrown off in choosing one as it looks like Fence and Mace have the same effect which I'm sure can't be right. I think i'm right that the concussion is the least preferable of the three. Then again.... I love the idea of the extra reflects from inscription after taking an admittedly unready dex character to a dungeon and getting proverbially spanked by magic and poison magic. Again sorry for asking another build question so soon. I'm rusty with game and on top of that it does seem slightly different. Thanks in advance for any advice.
http://www.uorenaissance.com/list/Ability/M Were you to take up a weapon for the special attack as you mentioned, you'd need both the weapon skill and anatomy. musicianship/provocation/magery/mediation I find that this is the core of a " bard/mage (provocation) ". This covers travel, crowd control, and summons (blade spirits / energy vortex / daemon (tank - hard to dispel). From there I think it's up to the player and is certainly debatable. That said, now-a-days whenever I hear someone wants to play a bard mage (without taming) I encourage them to think forward and not only create a good account starter but a full time 1st string character in their full time roster. You accomplish the core of this by adding one skill, tracking. Now you have a tracker-bard-mage. With these five skills you can accomplish PvM farming and participate in several of this server's custom holiday events. If this sounds interesting enough to you to start building the character, please do but strongly consider only working those five skills. Let the other 200 SP reveal themselves to you as you play... unless of course you're really settled on them. G'luck and have fun.
Sagely words Tracking? wow. I haven't done that since my first 90's character. I may just do that! thanks for chipping a bit of the rust off. The anatomy tie in was forgotten.
Ok, I have 5 chars with a core of magery/music/provo. Each one is different and serves a different purpose. Disco tamer: +Taming/disco/lore/vet “Combat” bard: +eval/med/resist/wrestling T-mapper: +carto/med/hiding/lockpicking Ironman: +swds/tactics/healing/anat Fisher/event: +fishing/tracking/med/eval Create your own!! Go Crazy!! I could also suggest: +eval/med/resist/tracking between the end of November and through April and drop tracking for hiding from May until mid-late November.
Thanks Pirul. Look like a great mix. I can totally see the method in them. Which do you enjoy playing on the most?
Combat bard is what I was thinking Although I can totally see the others too. I’ve done t.hunting, fishing, tracking waaay long ago. My irony on this server is the only thing I think I haven’t really done is a tamer! Sacrilege to see round these parts. I can’t stand dragons in towns! Lol No doubt I’ll do one at some point just to see. Oh and I’ve never really done a good thief. I’ve some ideas for that down the road.
I log into my fisher (to track for mares) for my tamer to sell and buy AMIBs for my Ironman everyday. So those 3 see action daily. If I had to chose just one build though, I would go combat bard and include tracking instead of wrestling from November through April.
I put hiding on my first Provo mage with the intention of eventually dropping, but has proven to be very resourceful. Really fun build, and perfect for assisting my other characters. It has bailed out my tamer on multiple occasions The gph isn’t as high, but I never die. I’ll be building another one with tracking for holidays (and of course, to further assist my tamer)
With your specific build template, If you go with inscription for the magic reflect bonus, why not drop resist. I guess resist could be a failsafe passive backup when reflect drops. Your call on that, but then it opens the door for another skill to select. Tracking as an option coming into the next few months as already suggested.
Tracking tracking tracking. I'm guessing that tracking is kinda important for these upcoming events. lol I'm really looking forward to discovering what they're all about! SO nice to find a place that has so much effort being put into it. Hugely appreciated! I remember waaaay back when on OSI when they did easter bunnies and eggs. Fast little white buggers that were basically dragons underneath their appearance. That was so much fun. The Monty Python references were flying.
Draaaagonnns!!! Damned Dragon Lords in this realm are like Nighthawks back in Krondor! Everywhere and cant be stamped out! As for lightening a purse or two, I must say, arriving here and providing funds for future endeavours solely from that... very fun. Very rewarding. Decent learning curve though to make more than enough for a new horse. If you have any further interest in that path, myself or the other Mockers can give a tip or two. PM me if you like Name's the same wheverver you find me. Jimmy the Hand, Nightmaster, The Mockers
With all the reading i've been doing i've deliberately steered away from potential spoiler threads. So glad we've joined at the time of year we did. .... I can see lots of potential Python quotes lol.
