@Chris like circle of transparency? So we would not be able to see behind them? I'm not familiar with this term.

I believe that's what he means. If you were to put a pouch on say, the north side of an add on wall, circle of transparency wouldn't allow you to see it.

If this were implemented btw, it would be something I would intend on spending lots of gold, plat, or copper coins on.

would it be possible to do a one time re-dye of an anniversary item to a different anniversary year? maybe a cool reward but I can also see how this could be a bad idea just throwing it out there

The only thing we are considering is a feature to the Fix it vendor to allow a past anniversary items that have been dyed another color to be restored. This would only apply to items that have the related anniversary name. Ergo if your named 3rd Anniversary robe was dyed a random dye tub color in some last target mishap it could be restored to the correct color.

As far as switching hues to past years we would not do that. We have a firm commitment that once used those colors will not be re-introduced into the world for any reason. Given that players invest heavily in these items it would not be fair to change that this late in the game.

That is correct. It would not kill the idea. Given that players could move the walls to solve any problems. It could create nefarious situations with gate traps, locations players cannot see and possibly eyesores that are the reason we do not have custom houses here.

One of the keys of Renaissance is that this server looks like home to every player that remembers 1999/2000 UO. While we can be creative with rewards we do not want to create some custom mess that makes up most servers these days.

As much as I would love to see full walls, I know there's a lot of compromise needed on UoR and half walls would be a good one if that's something you eventually decide to do.

I believe it has in some other thread about gold sinks / other uses for plat. Problem is, its a slippery slope towards Trammel to expand the number of blessed item-types in the game. I am sure others will add to this comment :)

My comment is lacking the inevitably high price value of the deed. I see your point, but am also eager to see other view on it.

I think there's already far too much blessed and newbied stuff. I'd be cool with a way to get new char newbied items without creating a new char (like scissors, or a non-gm non-magic weapon or instrument), but I think that's as far as it should go.

The only reason why I bring them up is because they were apart of this era. Even when they came out they were extremely rare.

Maybe even adding an expiration date much as faction weapons have one.

Yeah there was a clean up britannia bless deed... though it didn't have people hoarding for years with pre-knowledge of a CuB system so extremely rare. And of course then they added trammel shortly afterwards. I think most were used on clothing anyway, cbds didn't exist yet at the time. Not much worth blessing existed at the time, either.

I'm going to play devils advocate by asking two questions :

    - does the shard need the CuB system to attain the goal of reducing item count and backup time ?

    - What other methods can we use to reduce item count and backup times ?

The problem in a nutshell is housing and lack of item decay within a house.

The simple answer is introduce House item decay.

Origins answer was to introduce House item decay along with an increased secure limit and lockdown allowance per house.

The full solution Origin used was published in CuB Phase II on 23rd November '99 : https://uo.com/wiki/ultima-online-w...blishes/1999-2/1999-publish-01-23rd-november/. I (like many of you) remember this going live. I also remember thieves complaining about house looting being affected ....

View it as a math problem :

Each useable tile within a house can contain a stack of up to 20 backpacks. Each backpack can contain 125 items. That's a potential 2500 items PER USABLE HOUSE TILE being backed up. A single floor 7x7 house spot on the server could potentially use an item count of (25 tiles to stack on and 2500 items per tile) 62,500 items. That's a basic wood and plaster house. A small marble or stone workshop can hold more as there's multiple levels and use the same land foot print.

Origin limited the max possible amount of items being backed up as follows per house type :

    Origin.jpg

A possible maximum 62,500 items for a 7x7 plot reduced to a possible maximum 425. That's a far more manageable figure.

The introduction of CuB does not stop players stacking and storing 2500 items per tile if they choose. The introduction of house item decay will remove that option.

There's 2720 houses on this shard broken into the following types :

    Castle : 11
    Fortress : 88
    Keep : 142
    Large House 63
    Log Cabin : 174
    Marble Patio : 39
    Marble Shop : 226
    Patio House : 95
    Sandstone Patio : 141
    Small House : 312 (62,500 items)
    Small Tower : 516
    Stone Shop : 107
    Tower : 383
    Two Storey House : 111
    Villa : 312

I realise a small % of houses are actually used by active players however when you go through the math the numbers soon add up.

    A note on CuB :

It's encouraging item hoarding as we all know ... which is adding to backup times ... which is what we're trying to reduce ....

Yeah... just saying CUB isn't coming ever would probably cut save times in half.

    Agreed.

The lovely new items in this thread can be added to existing sink systems at an extortionate amount.

On the topic of items I wouldn't mind seeing a few basic sandal colours being available - either by tub or pre coloured purchase.

Item bless deed for a limited # of special items

    July 4th bells
    Baracoon's flute
    etc
-I think it would be fun to actually carry a flute, bell, etc and use it
-At the very least make usable (play) when locked down like regular instruments currently work

    Santa's gloves
    Cupid's gloves
    Cupid's bow
    etc
-These items would also be fun to equip rather than use as simple decor

There are prolly a few dozen special items that could be blessed or newbied so they could actually be used
I will add to list above as I find things
