Im the type of person who gets completely overwhelmed when I have too many options. I'd wager I'm the least productive/efficient player on this shard. I sometimes spend more time switching back and forth between toons than actually playing so settling on a build is incredibly tough for me. I'm sure some of you will just say "Just roll with the punches and have fun. My mind doesnt work like that! Anyway..... I'm leaning on going with this build quoted below for my first tamer. I tend to play solo a lot. Once I get a few million in the bank and I have the right gear and set up I'll be much more social and finally get to PvP. This build below is for solo PvM. Is this a good build for me or does anyone have any recommendations? I'm a little leary having a build w/o hiding or healing, two of my (noobish) crutches. Ive never played a tamer or bard before. Thanks in advance.
I wouldnt start with that template. You should use this: Animal taming Animal lore Veterinary Magery Meditation Music Provoke This will serve you much better. You can handle tough mobs, and you can crowd control with provo. Mage and med allows you to gate around and heal etc.
OK. Maybe I'll put the first build on the back burner. I read the template I posted could handle/solo literally any mob in the game so it sounded enticing.
I have a similar build as an ironman character. They are pretty lethal in PvM but vulnerable to reds who may roll in on you. Since your mare will be fighting you wont be able to mount it right away without having it follow you a couple steps away first. Then you have to work on getting away from the red and get a recall off or heal. With out actual healing for yourself that's where it comes vulnerable for reds. But yes PvM its perfect. When I am out to farm gold I use a disco tamer. GM, taming, lore, vet, magery, music, disco(enticement) med. Landing disco its auto 20% off the targets HP from the rip and makes them over all weaker. People are complaining about hard tough fluffies are and tearing thru their dragons for example, but with a landed disco they are a cake walk. I also have a tracker/hider tamer. GM taming, lore, vet, magery, med, tracking, hiding...this is the perfect holiday build and not bad for over all PvM either because you can hide real quick qhen you see reds giving you a chance to get the gate off to get you and your pets out. For over all PvM tho my disco tamer is my go-to.
Ive just got to catch up in the gold department. Admitedly Im not very good at UO (yet). The most money Ive ever made has been farming liches. Those are literally the highest enemy Ive ever beaten. Reading the trade forum and getting outbid by all you folks with MILLIONS is frustrating and Im not having that shit anymore.
Haha I feel ya. Most Ive had in my account was around 5 mil and that was getting a lucky drop, selling it and buying a decent house and flipping it for double the profit. Literally almost any build, you can farm good amounts of gold with it. Obviously the most effective and most littered across UOR is a tamer of variations. Mage tamers and bard tamers are the 2 big ones you see the most of. After you pick your template and get use to it (I started with just efreets in fire) get comfortable with your style then try bigger and badder things. The biggest dude I've taken down solo so far is a Purveyor and he actually killed 1 of my fully trained dragons twice in the process, and he was discoed so 20% weaker. I had to recall in a 2nd tamer of mine to keep up on the healing.
The five "required" skills for most taming templates (outside of more exotic or specialized builds) are Taming, Lore, Vet, Magery, Meditation. You get 2 more skills to play with. Here are my opinions: 1. Music/Provo: This is possibly the most popular, and was already recommended above. This is very powerful if you are fighting multiple MOBs. Your pets can get overwhelmed with too many MOBs and provo keeps them from tanking too much. Also, it speeds up the killing of the MOBs so faster gold. 2. Music/Disco: This is good if you plan to fight some bosses or difficult MOBs one at a time (ancient wyrm, balrons, etc.). Also good for more spread out solo MOBs. People say that a disco tamer can make a ton of money fighting blood elementals. 3. Resist/Eval or Tracking: Some people believe resist is a wasted skill on a tamer because it has limited applications (most of the time your pets will take magic damage). In many cases that may be true. But if you are willing to sacrifice earned gold for survival (slow reaction time to casting MOBs or PKs) or want to actively fight back against PKs instead of just healing and letting your pets defend you then you can make yourself less squishy with GM resist, and you can include eval to fire back. I included tracking because many people swap tracking and eval during holidays like this one.
Mine tracking tamer: Animal taming Animal lore Veterinary Magery Music Provoke 70 tracking 30 meditation
Wouldn’t it be better to just have a secondary toon that has tracking? I’m by no means being argumentative, just working this out.
The template is also great for holiday events. I don’t use this template, but I do have a Provo mage w/tracking and hiding for holiday events. I use my Discord Tamer template most of the time for farming gold.
^ Legit, solid advice. This was my first tamer template and it's the absolute best. It's sort of like a fisher price "my first tamer" template and will get you comfortable with the build before you branch out and get rowdy with other versions. Good luck man!
FYI you can record a macro ... "Petname" stay Double click to mount No delay in the macro and as long as it isn't poisoned you can mount instantly.
Alright, I definitely agree, do not use the Dexer Tamer as a first character, and honestly unless you are doing Ironmans or the like, or just for fun. Anyway these are my two favorite of my tamer builds. Super Gold Farm Tamer, Lack of med makes him a little vunerable and hurts utility a little, but he can control any room and totally kill just about anything while reducing incoming pet damage. Magery Animal Lore Animal Taming Vet Music Provoke Disco Disco Tamer. He can solo most mobs and bosses.Farm Great, disco keeps pet damage low, but cant run into larger spawns. Magery Meditation Animal Lore Animal Taming Vet Music Disco
@Steady Mobbin tracking is to make money in easter, christmas, thanksgiving and another events for example... and sure, also for zookeeper animals and mares...
