Hello to the powers that be!
I love playing my bard...I have all the tamers and the macros, but its my bard that I really really enjoy playing....I know Tamers are taking over...Its not a pretty site tho seeing 3 accounts 6 drags and 3 mares in action(IMO)

I don't hate tamers,i just love my bard!
So can we have some changes for bards...Nothing major...The gameplay is fine(timers ect)they all seem fair(bit long but fair)
What I would like to see is giving bards a chance to make better use of Firehorns and being able to prov monsters onto reds..

Being able to prov onto players speaks for itself...Give bards some sort of chance against reds....Make the reds work for there kills..Or the bards will just recall out and no one has fun...

Also make Firehorns better..there not that common to find them on mobs(trust me I kill lots of mobs)I will find 5 exorsicm/repond/ instruments and no firehorns……...When I do use one it breaks way to fast...The damage could be tweaked(weak damage even with 4 barding skills)...And lastly the Sulphar ash used could be lowered...Tho I be happy to use so much SA if the fire horn lasted and done some half decent damage.....Lol we would not be OP in PvP in anyway,we got 4 skills for barding!

Anyway last few days has been lots of talk of things that just get shelved, pls don't just shelf this...Do somit about it(and quickly)
I know you guys are busy, and god knows 99% of us have the utmost respect for what you do..We just want the small things done quicker.

Anyway thanks in advance,i know is testing times all round..Keep up the good work tho pls

I love my tamers and play them almost exclusively, but I also like bards. Here are a few suggestions of mine. Take them for what they are - brainstorming - as they might not be feasible.

    - Half or reduce the cool-down timer for barding skills on a pure bard (i.e. a tamer bard still has the longer cool-down)
    - give bards free defensive wrestling (either pure bards or 2 of 3 barding skills)
    - make pure bards have a good chance for lower-level spells (5th circle and below) to be non-interruptible.
    - give a bonus so that 80 of each of the 3 barding skills causes them all to effectively be GM, leaving 60 free points (or figure some number)
    - make "Provo onto players" work similar to a tamer's all guard command
    - make a special mask or item that gives a slight boost to all 3 barding skills - but won't work on a tamer

I'll go ahead and ping @Chris to make it more likely he sees it. If nothing else this thread had reminded me that I have toons besides my tamers that I should play more.

I'm the same way. I do not like tamers and I certainly don't like playing one.

I believe the premise of this server's rule set is taking UO prior to a "certain patch" and perfecting certain aspects of it while preserving the overall ambiance.
Combining skills for a bonus outcome most certainly is a established precedence, specifically Defensive Wrestling.

The addition of AMIB's gave purpose to a different playstyle and inspires template diversity. The provocation dexxer creates in game needs and activity with top tier gear needs. Slayer weapons, invuln bone armor, slayer instruments... again, this one desired template alone continues to create content for players to try out.

That is always a good thing.

I enjoy playing a pure bard/support character in PvM with a group. With the suggestions given, I too believe it could work out the same way as it already successfully has with the provo-dexxer.

I believe what holds back progress on bard "buffs" is the fear it would also buff tamers. Careful consideration would need to be made. I believe skill combining and skill requirements would be the key to success here.

    Fire Horns

I wish these would be considered for perfecting. They are a great framework and have much potential to make the "pure bard" a more desirable character to face content with.

Here is how they currently function. I think the idea was to be a finishing tool while crowd controlling mobs that are provoked on one another.

I do wish they would be reviewed. I wish they did not damage players, instead they buffed them ;). + to armor, + to mana regeneration... something nice to have but you can live without.

The Fire Horn is used by Bards to do Fire Damage to enemies.

They can be found on various Monsters.

The amount of the damage done depends on your barding skills. The higher the three bardings skills are, the more damage will be done.

One has to be rather close to the target as the range of the attack is only 3 tiles. When used there is a small delay until it can be used again and also there's a 16% chance that it will break. If used against another player the fire horn will do less damage than against a monster and it can be used while you are hiding.

    Damage Formula:
    If Monster: total = prov + disc / 5 + peace / 5
    If Player: total = (prov + disc / 5 + peace / 5) / 3
    maxDamage = ( total * 2 ) / 30
    minDamage = ( maxDamage * 7 ) / 10

Staff Note: This item has not received a full review in line with the design goals of UO:Renaissance.

I love tamers... but also bards!! I have a full bard and I love it. I have seen many interesting ideas above... and increasing fire horn damage is the best one of them!

I agree the divide between PvM templates and tamers extremely wide. Anything we can see implemented to close the gap would be nice.
    ____________

    Bard Advice:
I primarily use a Full Bard Mage as my PvM option.

The best defense I can do is running PKs into a pack of high-aggro monsters and cast Peacemaking on myself and get off an Invis hoping they will die to the pack.

I only mention this because most players tend to forget about Area peacemaking and how it can reset monster aggro on incoming players.

    Other than that. GL.

What he says @Tuneful . I had 2 Balrons on my ass within seconds and got wiped by double flamestrikes etc. It was a humiliating lesson....

@wylwrk is right, any changes need to be made in such a way as not to overpower the tamers already, they have it easy enough with bonded dragons already.

I pay my bard and its my favorite character to play, the whole issue would lay with bard tamers being MORE OP... I really don't think there's much wrong with a bard, your CD after a failed try is pretty fast, we have slayer instruments. My bard is light, nimble and fast plus packs a punch with eval. I don't think there's any huge disparity because I can make a 7X Gm mage bard completely afk in a few days...

My favorite thing to do as a Full Bard is Discording players dragons and watching them melt to spawn.

    Hello All
Some really good replies and ideas...Bit disappointed none of Staff have had a chance to reply yet..Maybe there just busy!

    Yeep the ideas coming tho
Keep them simple so is nice and easy for Staff to consider

So far it doesn't get much simplier than

    1.Firehorns lasting longer
2.Firehorns doing a bit more damage for Pure bards(4xGM)
    3.Provoking onto players
