In hopes to create an enjoyable Factions environment, let's build a comprehensive list of tactics, strategies, and gameplay that discourage players from playing Factions. Obviously, each player is subject to their own gameplay philosophy, but we can at least come together as a community and work toward an agreed upon environment to continues to encourage the growth of Factions and group PvP, as a whole. Please, keep it general and try to avoid listing individual players actions. These are some suggestions and what we've been using in the current COM v Minax group battle scenario: __________________ Discouraging Faction Gameplay on UO:R 2019 Do not use Mares/Dragons in Factions Do not use Triple boxing Do not use Non-Faction characters to assist (ghosting, dispelling, attacking faction summons) Do not intentionally kill faction war horses Do not res-kill opponents unless they are making constant aggressive actions (in cases where stat-loss is not enough to keep them out of the fight) Do not place/use Faction guards at TB/COM Base or use them in group battles __________________
Definitely agree, but those are obviously out of the hands of our "community Factions rulebook". People have thrown around different suggestions for timers. I believe Sterling mentioned 3 hour caps and 8 hours town controls. What timers do you guys have in mind?
Making a faction guild out of and alt guild then having to wait 7 days till the account is out of faction so I can add the faction acct I actually wanted. Newb mistake obviously but 7 days sucks after macroing for another 5 days just to finish the char
I played a great deal of factions during the early days of the server. It was an immense amount of fun. I feel as though this server is an excellent platform to relive some of that nostalgia pvp. This specific time period in UOR was possibly the best for group oriented pvp combat. (IMO) Factions as they were in OSI are just not viable for today's freeserver gaming community. Aint nobody got time for that. I still believe factions could be a great platform for structured pvp and they should be used in some capacity. (Maybe they are idk? I've been banned from IRC since 2013 so I don't really check anymore) This is the possibly the highest quality server out there it would be interesting to see what tweaks the staff could think of to make factions enjoyable again. -Budou Kiba
Join the UO:R Discord and in the PvP channel post that you're interested in joining one of the Faction guilds and I'm sure one of us will be more than welcome to show you the ropes.
Discouraging Faction Gameplay on UO:R 2019 Do not use Mares/Dragons in Factions (limit faction followers to two) Now only a mare can be used Do not use Triple boxing (the above fixes this issue) Do not use Non-Faction characters to assist (ghosting, dispelling, attacking faction summons) (fixed in my below post by disabling TB and COM factions and expanding faction base zone lines) Do not intentionally kill faction war horses (who cares? This isn't a deal breaker) Do not res-kill opponents unless they are making constant aggressive actions (in cases where stat-loss is not enough to keep them out of the fight) (You will never fix this its UO) Do not place/use Faction guards at TB/COM Base or use them in group battles (fixed in my below post by disabling TB and COM factions) We should just SHUT DOWN COM & TB factions.... everyone gets the boot, the stone is inactive and now we have Minax and SL.... The bases are more comparable and less exploitable than the other two... maybe the Minax base we add a few single tile choke points in the rock path and extend the faction line in each base. These would be SUPER easy changes and would allow for a more condensed play, lets face it we don't have a 4k server population to faction from. None of these changes would effect faction era accuracy.
Not against or for, but I think 4 factions is era accurate and I don't think 2 is enough for enemies to manage to steer clear of being forced into the same team. I'm about as new to factions as it gets but that's my opinion. If 2 sections shur down then the characters within shouldn't have any down time from "leaving a faction"
The server is so split with other play styles that I think there's basically 2 sides already from what I can tell in PvP... if there is a few stragglers that get lost in the mix so be it chances are they aren't even actively playing factions anyhow. As far as 4 being era accurate, if we get 6X the population then lets open the other two... As of now people are being forced to get mauled by guards while trying to get into bases, they are being exploited by boats and such... the Minax and SL bases have none of these...
There's so many to list.. but to name a few, in no specific order: 1. Sigil timers. 2. Guard mechanics. 3. Incentives for the controlling faction. Be it vanity or commodity. 4. Tamers. 5. Triple boxing, be it tamers or AFK turrets. I remember fighting against macro e-bolt turrets that would accept rez and just e-bolt nearest enemies. It's not game breaking but it could get annoying and out of hand. 6. Blue/Red/Grey interference in factions. 7. Not having an Ezekiel to properly balance PvP. 8. Did I say tamers?
-The fact that people just play when all the conditions are ok for them. -People boycotting old rivals initiatives. -People expecting that telamon fix some issues without even try to talk to anothers teams like adults to solve the question.
i run around by myself all the time looking for a fight.. usually find one i guess those are my conditions, me against the world ;p
1. Lack of playtime in general. I am more geared towards PvM than PvP, and so unless there is something really important at stake that would cause me to fight other players, I'd prefer just to do more PvM stuff. There always seems to be so much going on that I end up playing more than I should to begin with. 2. My PvP skills are lacking. I've had addressing this on the "to do" list for a long time, but as I mentioned in #1, there always seems to be something else going on. 3. I guess I don't really understand factions since I haven't looked into it, and I left UO before they existed. I don't really know why controlling towns and winning the fights is considered a good thing aside from maybe the satisfaction of knowing your side won. I have nothing against PvP. Some of the people in this game I respect the most seem to be 90% PvP, 10% PvM. So obviously it must be good. I just never really got into legitimate PvP.
i do both, Any PK thats encountered Dacek in a dungeon or anywhere else will tell you if i see you coming ill come at you as well. Or my factions character i enjoy both aspects of battle here. There might not be continous PvP all the time but the amount that is for now is welcomed.
