Since I get asked this question a whole bunch, and since both the old site and the new site are down that host these files and the guides, I thought I'd just include the guide here. Credit for the colored spell icons goes to @boothby NOTE: Make a backup of Gumpidx.mul and Gumpart.mul 1) Download MulPatcher & Colored Spell Icons 2) Extract both files all into an empty temp folder and run mulpatcher.exe 3) This is an old application, so when you open it up, you need to do this so you can see all the tabs. People get lost because of this. 4) Under Gumps, click ... next to each one and select the Gumpidx.mul and Gumpart.mul from your UOR folder 5) When both files have been selected, click Load 6) When that is complete, click on the Features tab at the bottom. 7) Under Autopatch, select the location of ColoredSpellIcons.txt and select Gumps from the dropdown. Click Start. 8) When this is complete, go back to the Settings tab and click Save under gumps. Select the location to save these files. Here's a video of the whole process:
My 2 cents.. I set the « read only » attribute on my colored spellbook files(2) to be sure they was not replace by the updater... If you dont do that, you might loose your nice icons
Yep, this will work but it might exclude you from getting updates in the future. Luckily these changes edit the gump files, which I suspect will be least patched of the client files so having to redo this every so often isn't too bad.
I have tried this multiple times and I can not get it to work. Is there something special about the saving the gump files. I can see it says patched and I try to save it, but not sure what to name it or where it goes once saved. I have seen other files that I have renamed and tried to put them in the UOR files but it wont load then. Also, the mulpatcher seems to crash quit a bit... I have done this in the past, but for some reason I cant get it to patch over.
