The recent Magery highlighting gave rise to thought the feasibility of Nox mage/bard for my battle miner.

The idea here is to inflict spells like Poison, Poison Field, Harm, and Mind Blast (that would best work without Eva) to ore elementals/golem from a bit of distance. Imho, the advantage of this build compared to Holden's is to have an extra 100 skill points to invest in another skill.

However, does the Poison Field scale with the poisoning skill? A couple of threads were made until now raising the concerns or the lack therein correlation between the skill and the spell. I wonder if this spell received a rework since Chris' this post yet? If not, then there is no sense of having the skill.

    Some questions rose inevitably:
    1. Do you call this a worthy build or a waste of time and resources?
    2. Do you think this Nox mage/bard would clear mines faster? I heard that Ore elementals are vulnerable to poison damage from Holden, but what about golems?
    3. Is this the current mechanic? (click to see the op) "To apply deadly poison for instance you have 10% chance, with both skills at 100 and within 2 tiles of the target. Otherwise the poison applied would be greater poison. This scales with range up to a max distance of 10 tiles."
    4. Does Discordiance also lower resistance or only stat and skills?

    • 100 Mining
    • 100 Magery
    • 100 Meditation
    • 100 Poisoning
    • 100 Musicianship
    • 80 Peacemaking
    • 80 Discordiance
    • 40 Hiding

What's your take on this battle miner or I can just follow Holden's.

P.S. I checked Keza's 'Poison Explained' guide but poison spells were not taken into account.

    Back to bard builds:

Does Defensive Wrestle also work in PvM? It sounds like a good idea to dodge attacks half of the time.

Peace + poisoning will not work... Poisoned mobs will not get peaced. properly.. will only last the delay of the damage of poison.

The bard i mentioned before had wrestling before i replaced for peace... you will feel the some difference.. specially when in troubles... . but peace is much more useful than wrestle(with no tactics and anatomy in my case).. using peace self you can walk trough hairry places.

Peacemaking works great with slow weapons. The reason is the same as xavant stated.

More damage ticks = more chance to break the stun effect.

My usual go-to for that reason is mace fighting.

Parablow in pvm is not as great, but it certainly helps VS casters like Liches or evil mages. Would not recommend using hallys in pvm. They have good dmg spikes, but theyr average damage is kinda trash.

Imo peace macer, or provo+whichever skill is great. Provo archer has nice flair btw, and you can multibox him to "assist" your miner on killing golems. Just some things to consider ;)

Also: glad you've made it to the forums! Hah

Ok, guys. I'm about to call it quits at this point.

I can just continue throwing you useless builds for the next 2 pages but that makes little to no sense.

Xavant_BR: Sorry, but I really don't think that Resisting Spells would be a good investment for a PvM build. Correct me otherwise, please. Also, I didn't get your point regarding Wrestling?

For now, I will stick to Holden's battle miner, and once I equip +25 tactics weapon I plan to lower Tactics for Magery (or Healing depending on failures.)
    • 100 Mining
    • 100 Weapon
    • 100 Tactics
    • 100 Anatomy
    • 100 Musicianship
    • 80 Peacemaking
    • 80 Healing
    • 40 Magery
I've never intended to use Eva as a source of spell damage, hence Magery 40.
Does defensive wrestling only work when unarmed? I don't remember that being more up pure mage's alley. What am I missing?

#2 build, I had settled on Healing 80 after Holden mentioned that a failure 'rarely' happens for his battle miner.

#3 build, this one is basically your suggested build made on your first response with the only exception GM Resisting Spells (or Healing, or Discordance) swapped for peacemaking.
Would this sketchy warrior with no tactics + the summons still be better at cleaning monsters compared to a *dexxer bard? I'm also keeping many of you guys' points on my mind regarding healing, BUT since this build has both peacemaking and provocation, maybe this time around healing may not be as necessary despite the close contact(?)

    *dexxer bard
    • 100 peacemaking / provocation
    • 100 musicianship
    • 100 weapon
    • 100 anatomy
    • 100 tactics
    • 100 healing
    • 50.1 magery
    • 49.9 meditation
Battle miner has a specific group of monsters ranging from ore elementals to golems and I think that's all about?
For my bard, I want him to battle with high-level monsters. So I'd be happy if you consider these on your next post, thank you.

Do not drop tactics, it's your best damage modifier and helps you to kill stuff fast, ergo better income per hour!
Tactic has its best damage bonus on 100, and scales all the way up to 125.

    Music
    Peace 80
    Mining
    Mace
    Anat
    Tact
    Healing
    Magery 20

    For single box smashing.

For dual box (combined with archer bot or tamer) I'd go for something like this:

    Mining
    Parry
    Weoponskill
    Anat
    Heal
+ 2 skills of your choice

Ore elementals will escape when low hp%, I always liked peacemaking for that reason as it gets them stuck btw.

But yeah, ultimately there is no right and wrong answer honestly. There are multiple ways to run your battleminer, ranging from the friendly dude farming with his Packy in delucia, to the triple boxing housetrap guy.. Many ways to do it

I made a quick search regarding 'Resisting Spells' and noticed that "Resisting Spells grants a passive chance to reduce or prevent the damage of offensive spells cast on your character"
And also this page about RS. I didn't know that UO:R had the stratics section to reach some more information along with formulas.

Then I'm definitely getting RS in my bard template. It was the folly of me ignoring it from the beginning.

Even though I agree, I still wouldn't want to stray away from the fun part (melee). As I presume, the dexxer bard is the high point of PvM build out there.

Check out the 3-red paragraphs and the following in advance: Guide to the Bardic Arts. My understanding is that one can handle the monsters with the highest barding difficulty once these foursome skills are trained to GM.

This part below relates to the 'dexxer' bard template

    GM Weapon
    GM Anatomy
    GM Healing
    GM Musicianship
    GM Provocation
    90 Resisting Spells
    80 Tactics
    30 Magery

Yes, I've been leaning more into Provocation for my bard and Peacemaking for my battle miner from the beginning. It is also better in terms of having a substantial difference among my characters.

    You are right.

Any idea, if the damage scaling from 100 to 125 Tactics present on this chart reliable? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...11tYYoKrhmJLzfE7dNbuuR0PA/edit#gid=1750798924

So I'm sorry if this has already been covered, there's a huge amount of info here.

I run a provo lumberjack and he is a huge amount of fun to play. I lost resist to fit in lumberjacking and so he is a bit of a glass cannon but I go to nearly every dungeon, and have iron-manned all AMIBs etc. I'd potentially get used to the template with resist before switching over though.

I run with 90 healing, 90 tactics and 20 magery. This is OK for recalling (not 100% with scrolls, I don't mind the occasional PK death), and can still cast magic reflect (with a fair few fizzles!). I wanted to be able to hit 100+ tactics more easily without having to seek the best magic weapons etc.

Hope this helps! Any variation on this template is a huge amount of fun.

Good point @One - I wanted to GM having never done it before, and not too bothered by dieing :) According to that spreadsheet, 85 = +7 damage, 95 = +8, so those would be the two cutoff points. Would allow something like:

    95 heal
    90 tactics
    85 lumberjack
    30 magery

for not much of a reduction of damage output, and securing escape using recall scrolls.

I think my max damage output so far has been 97 or so with a silver power battle axe. @Xavant_BR and I have also taken on an ophidian queen with this guy and his discord/provo macer he mentioned above. Lots of fun.

What is the best way to get to 85 or even GM LJ though? The forums are all over the place on this issue. Some say you need 1v1 melee vs a char with 30 LJ skill but no mention of what NPC trains Lumberjacking. Others say chop trees so you can sell the boards but apparently neither the carpentry NPC or provisioner buys boards. What is the best way?

    You sell boards to players.

Most people will say chop trees that provide oak for faster gains. I never did that. When I GMd my lumberjacks, i had them spar with someone. The opponent's skills don't matter. The more you hit, the more chances you have to gain, so you may want to up your dexterity to 100.

Sparring does get slow and expensive. After 80 skill, you can expect to go through 10 hatchets and 1000s of bandaids (probably 20k).... And it'll take at least 24 hours, if not 36. Still, it's not as boring as chopping trees.

It's not worth finding a lumberjack trainer. You can go from 0-30 via sparring in like 30 minutes.
