Now, now, I believe Jupiter asked us to vote and if we had a suggestion we were supposed to post it here. I do not really see the point in taking stabs at one another when in truth you really love each other. Remember it only takes one drunken night and all of your UO stuff can be gone.

This to me is a hard decision.

Like Jupiter's Pros and Cons stated above I see the benefits of each scenario and think that both should be added to CTF.

I would for, the sake of new players entering the PvP scene, have to vote for completely randomized teams.

However, I do like the aspect of working together as team and I think it should still be part of this event. Maybe we could form CTF Teams that can compete whenever they like in the arena? Make it faction based but limit it to 6 players per team? That way things like mumble or vent can be used with friends to increase strategy and allow for a higher level of competition. I see this as a good way to scout potential team members in regular weekly matches and then have a bi-weekly team match.

In conclusion, I think options for both should be implemented. I have no idea how complicated that would make things, but it would equalize the playing field and allow for team vs team battles.

I've played CTFs where I only brought bandages. I've played CTFs in GM gear. I've played CTFs on wildly imbalanced teams. I have never stopped playing CTF because I enjoy it, even in the times when it gets frustrating (mostly due to lack of communcation on the team). So feel free to take a look at the CTF standings, I am good at it and you can say I don't pvp and I'm not good until you're blue in the face. See how much good it does you.

As for the arena, sure, I'm terrible at 5x. If you were holding off on killing me, sorry, but stop being such a dork. I'm not going to learn to fight 5x by NOT getting my ass kicked. I honestly don't care if i die, just ask the people I've dueled that aren't pathetic quitters. You should bring up the time Mes shit on you twice in a row and you fucking rage-quit and gave your properties to your then enemies so they could host your tournaments for you.

Serves me right for fronting you 500k with no collateral for your reagent business or giving you that 10k starter check like I've given dozens upon dozens of other players. Just keep on playing your game and I'll keep playing mine. I'll never give a crap who's better or who's winning and losing. I play to play, not to win. Winning is just a bonus. A bonus I happen to get more in CTF than you, so far.

I have taken the liberty of registering the #CTF channel in IRC. Please join the channel if you wish to form a team. I will GLADLY (no challenge needed, Mes) join up with ANYONE who is looking for a team player.

That phrasing sounded like a dodge, I want to see you on one of those terrible teams. I don't think the casuals are going to be in your CTF channel, and telling them "yeah bro, you can join up with me and bart if you can get onto pax romain's team before us, otherwise get good" is really not what I was suggesting you do.

What I want to see you do is join this team without an entourage on a regular basis and see how much you enjoy it

I don't know where you dream up your paraphrased bullshit, but that is not at all what I said. I will happily forego playing with my regular teammates in order to be a team player on an underdog group of randoms. I've done this several times in the past and even paired up with some of my more heated opponents to do so (Double Vision was one of the best examples). I'm not dodging anything. I'm playing CTF and I don't give any fucks at all which team I'm on, or whether or not we win. I understand that is super important to you to always know you've got at least the ability to win or you just won't take part. You've made this perfectly clear several times. I just don't personally think that winning is important, or as important as you seem to think.

I'll play with GMs and no purples all day. I have no runic axes to speak of but I did use a used agapite spear I have on hand. Pick your gimping dude, I don't really give a shit. You can call me out in whatever sad way you want or claim that you've got all kinds of nasty shit you can do that will make Telamon's head hurt. If anything sounds like a dodge, that's it. If it were REALLY that important to me, don't you think I'd have broken off my own valorite axe by now? If you had no intention of doing anything but playing a good clean game, why did you mount the ethereal in the first place?

Yes, I get "really riled up" every time I see someone I thought to be decent and intelligent, abuse mechanics instead of doing everything they can to help prevent such pathetic displays of poor sportsmanship. Let me guess, you can gate Rikktor into CTF too?

First, I said I have no intention, the ethereal thing was a past event, not a future one. But since you asked, I tested this bug before the patch went live and Telamon said he would get it fixed. Tried it again once it went live in the first CTF and it still worked. Now it's fixed, so great, right?

I'm not going to pick your gimping any further, I actually flat out don't believe you that you would attempt this experience the way those players did.

In fact, I think I'm bowing out of this discussion. CTF isn't really important to me, truly. It was something you and bart were asking for and you got it. There's already two threads worth of people interested in playing CTF making concise arguments to make it better (and only one very loud voice arguing against them).

And it's not that important to me to take this away from you. I get this feeling you personally and deeply need to win at this. Have a great day.

    Nice dodge I guess.

I'm not here to win anything but I'm also not here to keep my opinions to myself in discourse about topics I care about. You can flat out believe whatever you like. Those who know me and have been here playing CTF since the early days, know how little I care about having the best of the best or being in the best team. Yeah I'll curse when I die, I'll get passionate in the game but am I going to stop playing if I lose, even a lot? The answer is no, I will never stop playing CTF or UO really. I have played on random teams, with no communications, no cure pots, no trapped pouches and myriad other things I generally won't go to CTF without now. It never stopped me from wanting MORE. It's fun and it is a game. My life and my ego don't depend on my wins and losses in a game.

I look forward to giving it my best on a team of who fucking cares versus what the fuck ever, every time.

On the original topic: I support the idea of having often randomized teams, with the ability to pick teams at times. Such as, paying gold/plat for a special team match, or having weekly/biweekly team challenge times, or I think I even heard something about faction based.

I also really like the idea about having a ~60sec pause when you get in, to co-ordinate with your team, pull bars up, and the idea about the auto gump with a link to your corresponding voice chat channel. As someone who recently got back into UO, I have not yet aquired a headset, but constatnly seeing a gump saying "Hey everyone is chatting over here!" Would provide some incentive, or at least, if I could not talk back, hear what the rest of the team is up to and be able to follow along. At the very least have an IRC chan for the team. (I don't know about others but I have enough room on my screen to have IRC open in the corner while I play)

Another aspect of randomized teams, with an automated system, is that say you get a group of friends together that want to play a few rounds, some times you are on the same team with your bestie, and you know exactly what to do togeather, and you best secret tactic, and you go and dominate. Feels great you won togeather, now time for next round, teams randomize, and you are against each other. You know what the other is going to do, and now yo must outsmart someone that you normally play with. It makes a whole new fun challenge that you never thought of. --We would do this often in Left for Dead 2, opt to go random each round for scavage mode, and it provided great fun, as you learned how to play with and against some of the best players out there.

That's just my two cents, if this post gets noticed amongst the banter. :)

I got the votes I needed to speak the truth of the matter :)

Majority consensus says randomized or primarily randomized teams. The rest of the chatter is obsolete and deleted from my memory banks (Smelted!)

Can someone point me to where I can get some info on how these CTF games work? I have never done CTF in UO. Cheers!

kk here's my part, without any of the devious ideas i have

hope you're having a good time on team orange

I still support random teams, incognito, and the suggestion about a minute before the match to add party and plan a team strategy.

Thanks for your part. Your TEAM played a great game and did really well. That was awesome and yes, I did have a good time. I had one other guy on the team, in mumble, that I had never played CTF with before. He and I were laughing it up and doing our best to coordinate with an LJ and a Heal Mage...lol. Anyway, it was sweet and I hope everyone had fun and learned something. I like the experience that this brings to the masses and fighting coordinated teams such as yours is an experience worth learning as much about as possible.

That being said, I've heard other shards do CTF with full random teams....and everyone simply quits/rejoins constantly, trying to get stacked anyway. I'll see you next time hopefully, but I'll have my team together, unless anyone specifically asks me to join theirs for better balance or just the fun of it!

If you don't know what team you're on until it starts, and if you go in icognito'ed it would hard to get salty about who your teammates are.

Why so salty? Incognito means nothing here. We have healthbars and trammie duds and myriad other tells. It's ok though, I support your opinion, I just don't share it.

The auto balance issue Mes posted above has happened before. Both times I have witnessed it happen, it was the balance of the Red color specifically. I have not seen any other color outnumber yet, I will try different colors next round.
-Before this match started Blue and Red teams were full with Green empty and Orange with 2 players. The auto balance then balanced Blue team and Green by taking the last 5 members to join Blue and switch them to Green.
-Orange and Red just stayed the same when auto balance took place.
